It will be set up as a teenager s bedroom so parents can actually see where drugs are hidden. It will also promote our Celebrate Recovery Ministry. - The Melanie Murphy Emergency Love Fund The Love Fund of KIUMC has a long history of assisting church members and partnering with other local churches to provide financial assistance for families in our community. - High School Senior Scholarships Given to students graduating high school this year for their upcoming college expenses. In the Book of James we re asked a question, Are any among you sick? This passage of James instructs what we can do if we are sick: Are any among you sick?

You can find a link on our website or go to: kipastor.blogspot.com Healing Service By: Chris Johnston We offer a Healing Service on the fourth Sunday of each month at 7:00PM in the Sanctuary. All are invited for a time to worship the Lord in song, hear a message of His healing grace, and share in Holy Communion. There will also be a time of anointing and prayer. The Gospels and Book of Acts describe a number of healing stories. We can presume from these stories that the practice of praying for healing and of expecting healing to occur was a common understanding in the first few centuries of the Christian church. In the Book of James we re asked a question, Are any among you sick? This passage of James instructs what we can do if we are sick: Are any among you sick? They should call for the elders of the church and have them pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 The prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise them up; and anyone who has committed sins will be forgiven. 16 Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective. (James 5:14-16, NRSV) The United Methodist Church, by including a healing service in the hymnal and as part of its services, affirms that healing continues today. The healing God offers is physical as well as spiritual, emotional, and relational. Although we can pray for the sick in any place or situation, to have a service in the church implies that, as God s people, we are called to be a healing community. John Wesley said, God does nothing apart from prayer and everything through it. We share that belief. We invite you to experience the healing spirit of God through this service.

Three varieties are available: Coconut covered in dark chocolate, peanut butter covered in milk chocolate, and butter cream covered in milk chocolate. The eggs always go fast, so order yours now - price is the same as last year - $3 per 3 ounce egg. 4 KIUMC NEWSLETTER I March Ash Wednesday Service A county-wide Ash Wednesday service was held at Centerville UMC. The service was packed with Christ-filled Christians ready to embrace community and oneness with the Spirit. The congregation could feel the hand of God leading the service with prayer, praise, and thanksgiving. Reverend Clarence Wayman spoke a beautiful sermon about community. He spoke of picking up love and compassion and being kind to one another. Christ died for our sins and we need to show love to one another and thank the Lord for the wonderful debt that he has paid for us. We could never pay him back but the least we could do is say Thank You. He also spoke of God working through us so others can see Jesus, all we have to do is open ourselves up to the Lord and focus on working with one another and getting along together. "So in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others" (Romans 12:5). Confirmations 2017 begins March 19 th Confirmation is a time for young people to learn what it means to have a relationship with Jesus. We will begin the journey March 19, meeting on Sunday mornings at 11:00 a.m. for seven weeks. With the help of Danae Allison and other church members, your pastors will be teaching classes on the following topics: the Bible, God the Father, sin, Jesus, the Holy Spirit and the Apostle s Creed. Confirmation will end with a retreat in May when we will look at our United Methodist history and theology as well as the sacraments. Students in grades 8 th -12 th are invited to participate. Students who complete confirmation will join the church at our tent service on June 4 th. On these trips our youth will demonstrate Jesus' love and compassion in tangible ways, serving real people in need. The areas we will be working in have been devastated by storms and flooding over the last couple of years. We get to be the hands and feet of Jesus for just a moment of our lives! Anyone interested in helping sponsor students please danae@kiumc.org with your address so we can send you a sponsor letter. Middle School Mission Trip July 7th-10th (Friday-Monday) Roanoke, Virginia At the Roanoke, VA work camp, your group will demonstrate Jesus love and compassion in tangible ways, serving real people in need while working on projects like Building wheelchair ramps and handrails Weatherizing homes and trailers Reconstructing sagging porches Significant painting projects Interior and exterior carpentry Other home repair projects that the homeowner cannot otherwise complete The residents there are truly grateful, and in great need of the help you ll bring. You ll meet people that you ll never forget people whose lives will be forever changed because of the love and hope you bring. And in the process, your students lives will be transformed by the people of this town and the presence of Jesus. 6 KIUMC NEWSLETTER I March ROOTS Roller Skating On Sunday, February 19 ROOTS youth set out for a day of ice skating. However, the weather had another plan for us and we ended up at the Roller Rink! What an absolute blast we all had, doing something we haven t done in a long time or, for some, having never done!!! We may just become frequent flyers!!! 7 KIUMC NEWSLETTER I March Costa Rica Missions Trip Spreading the love of Christ to all the lovely people in Costa Rica. The missions team got many wonderful things done for the people in Costa Rica. They framed the foundation rebar cages with wood, built more cages with rebar and put up single pieces of rebar around the whole perimeter of the building foundation for the cinder blocks to be laid after the foundation has been poured and hardened. Foundation was poured Monday February 27th, the forms around the foundation have been taken off and the cinder blocks are starting. Looks like the only activity for the next 2 days will be laying block and building more rebar cages. We have to build 38 cages that go above the windows and will be all connected and go entirely around the building (a big rectangle of 38 cages). The children enjoyed VBS and made floppy hats, colored some pictures and had a book read to them. Gary also got his guitar out and played along as they sang Jesus loves me and a couple of more songs. The children also played with water balloons and had great fun!
