Trinity Lutheran Church Proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ since W. Penn Street, Bedford, PA Phone: (814) Website: Office Hours: Monday-Friday; 8 am-noon & 1-3:30 pm For Emergency Contact after Office Hours: Pr Weinhold (410) Pr Short (814) The Twenty-Sixth Sunday after Pentecost Sunday, November 18, 2018 Eucharists at 8:30 am & 11:00 am Sunday School & Adult Forum at 9:45 am ~ Today s Hymns ~ Gathering Hymn: #327 Through The Night of Doubt & Sorrow Communion Hymns: #438 My Lord, What A Morning #439 Soon and Very Soon #757 All My Hope On God Is Founded Sending Hymn: #805 Lead On, O King Eternal ~ Today s Collect ~ P: Almighty God, your sovereign purpose brings salvation to birth. Give us faith to be steadfast amid the tumults of this world, trusting that your kingdom comes and your will is done through your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. C: Amen.

~ Today s Readings ~ The First Reading: Daniel 12:1-3 L: A Reading from Daniel. At that time Michael, the great prince, the protector of your people, shall arise. There shall be a time of anguish, such as has never occurred since nations first came into existence. But at that time your people shall be delivered, everyone who is found written in the book. Many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. Those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the sky, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever. L: The Word of the Lord C: Thanks be to God. Psalmody: Psalm 16 Please join in singing the congregational refrain: Cantor: O Lord, it is you who are my portion and cup, it is you yourself who are my prize. I keep you, Lord, ever in my sight; since you are my right hand, I shall stand firm. Refrain. Cantor: And so my heart rejoices, my soul is glad; even my body shall rest in safety. For you will not leave my soul among the dead, nor let your beloved know decay. Refrain. Cantor: You will show me the path of life, the fullness of joy in your presence, at your right hand happiness forever. Refrain. The Second Reading: Hebrews 10:11-14 [15-18] L: A Reading from Hebrews. And every priest stands day after day at his service, offering again and again the same sacrifices that can never take away sins. But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, "he sat down at the right hand of God," and since then has been waiting "until his enemies would be made a footstool for his feet." For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are sanctified.

And the Holy Spirit also testifies to us, for after saying, "This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds," he also adds, "I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more." Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin. Therefore, my friends, since we have confidence to enter the sanctuary by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain (that is, through his flesh), and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us approach with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who has promised is faithful. And let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching. L: The Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. The Gospel Acclamation Please rise and join in singing the Gospel Acclamation s Refrain: Cantor: Be vigilant at all times and pray that you have the strength to stand before the Son of Man. Holy Gospel: Mark 13:1-8 D: The Holy Gospel according to St. Mark, the 13 th Chapter C: Glory to you, O Lord. As he came out of the temple, one of his disciples said to him, "Look, Teacher, what large stones and what large buildings!" Then Jesus asked him, "Do you see these great buildings? Not one stone will be left here upon another; all will be thrown down." When he was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John, and Andrew asked him privately, "Tell us, when will this be, and what will be the sign that all these things are about to be accomplished?" Then Jesus began to say to them, "Beware that no one leads you astray. Many will

come in my name and say, "I am he!' and they will lead many astray. When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed; this must take place, but the end is still to come. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be earthquakes in various places; there will be famines. This is but the beginning of the birth pangs. D: The Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise to you, O Christ. ~ Today s Prayers & Intercessions ~ We pray for the Church: that, as God s People, we may be a light to the world in times of confusion and turmoil, and give faithful voice and confident witness to the hope of the Gospel. Lord, in your mercy We pray for our bishops, pastors, and deacons in Christ: that God will give them wisdom of Faith and a spirit of devotion as they shepherd and lead the flock in the way of Christ. Lord, in your mercy We pray for the leaders of the people of the earth: that they may govern well, practice diplomacy with grace and mutual respect, and work together, with other leaders, to protect the vulnerable and those who struggle. Lord, in your mercy We pray for all those who are homeless, those fleeing persecution, and those searching for a place of safety for themselves and their families; that God will guide them on their sojourn, keep them safe from harm, and lead them to places of safety and welcome. Lord, in your mercy We give thanks for those who have worked in the fields, and for the bounty of the harvest which their labors have produced: that, as we celebrate Thanksgiving this week, we pray that we may travel and gather safely with family and friends, and that the Lord will keep us mindful of the needs of others. Lord, in your mercy We pray for the sick and for those who long for healing, and we pray for their doctors, nurses, and their family members and friend who offer themselves as caregivers: especially today we remember : that God, in His mercy, will sustain them, lift them up, and be their strength. Lord, in your mercy We pray for those who have died in Thousand Lakes and Malibu, California, and in Pittsburgh; that their souls might rest in peace, and that their families and friends may find compassion through the kindnesses of their neighbors. Lord, in your mercy

We pray for ALL who have died, especially those dear to us, whom we remember with love and affection, : that they may rest in the goodness of God s eternal light and that, with them, we may rise with Christ, to the hopes and the joys of Heaven. Lord, in your mercy We remember Saints of the Church and the witness of their lives ~ especially today we remember St Clement, ancient Bishop and Martyr St Cecilia, ancient virgin and martyr and St John of the Cross, Monastic and Mystic: that through their lives and witness, we might learn the way of devout faith, rejoice in the joy of music, and find the strength to live in a gentler way. The Sestercentennial Corner In 1847 plans for the new church were drawn by local architect Solomon Filler. His home, known today as the Filler Mansion, on South Juliana Street was most recently owned by the late Dr. Ronald Markwood. He also designed several town buildings still visible today including the Bedford County Courthouse (1820), the Anderson House (1815), the Russell House (1816) and the Bedford Presbyterian Church (1829). Filler s influence can readily be seen in the similar gold domes on the Presbyterian church and the Courthouse. The new Lutheran church was to be 40 x 60 with an estimated cost of $ $71,000 in today s money. If you ve not done so already Would you please consider naming Trinity to receive a special Legacy Gift from your Estate?
