Bach ( ) Gathering Hymn Easter Proclamation Greeting ::: Gathering ::: The ringing of the meditation bowl calls us to silence, centering and reflection as we prepare for worship. Following the introduction to the hymn, please stand and face the font at the rear of the nave. Turn to face the cross as it enters; you may bow as the cross passes, honoring the mystery of our salvation. Incense, used in Christian and Jewish worship since ancient times, is part of our multi-sensory liturgy. The assembly, gospel book, and table all signs of Christ's presence among us are honored with incense, representing the rising of our prayers and praise. #385 Good Christian Friends Rejoice and Sing! Alleluia! Christ is risen! Christ is risen indeed, Alleluia! The presiding minister bows toward the assembly which is the body of Christ and the primary symbol of God s presence in the liturgy. Prayer of the Day First Reading Acts 4:5-12 Let us pray Amen ~ be seated ~ ::: Word ::: Peter's speech describes Jesus as the savior and healer of the crippled man which can function today as a gloss on the shepherd imagery. An alternate image in this excerpt is the metaphor of the cornerstone, Christ on whom the church is built. Word of God, word of life. Thanks be to God. [2]

3 Refrain: God is my shepherd, so nothing shall I want; I rest in the meadows of faithfulness and love; I walk by the quiet waters of peace. Refrain Gently you raise me and heal my weary soul; You lead me by pathways of righteousness and truth; My spirit shall sing the music of your name. Refrain Though I should wander the valley of death, I fear no evil, for you are at my side; Your rod and your staff, my comfort and my hope. Today's passage echoes the gospel selection that speaks of Christ laying down his life for us. Our baptism calls us now to follow our shepherd by offering ourselves to others. 4 Gospel Acclamation Setting: Aaron David Miller Sung by the cantor and repeated by all. Stand to welcome the gospel and turn to face the book as the gospel is read in the midst of the assembly. Jesus says, I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me. (John 10:14) Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia. Gospel John 10:11-18 As the gospel is announced, you may trace a small cross on your forehead, lips and breast, a prayer that the Word may dwell in our minds, on our lips and in our hearts. Sermon Silence John uses sheep as a communal metaphor for shared abundant life. In John's gospel are eleven passages in which the name of God, I AM, is tied to an image, and today's selection includes one of them: I AM the model shepherd. In John's christological explication of the metaphor, Christ is not a victim of the wolf, but instead wills of his own power to die for the flock. In Easter we praise Christ, who chose death to save the flock, who now is risen and with us. The holy gospel according to John. Glory to you, O Lord. The gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ. Baptism Seminar May 6 Wednesday, May 6 + 7:00 p.m. Baptism isn't a one-time event it's for life! This seminar is offered several times a year for expectant parents, parents with newborns, those planning a baptism in the coming months, and parents or others who would like a refresher on the meaning and theology of baptism. All parents planning to have a newborn baptized are asked to attend this seminar at some point before the baptism of their firstborn child. 11 ::: Prison Book Ministry ::: Help improve the lives of men and women in prison and empty your over-crowded bookcases. Do two good things at once by taking part in our annual Prison Book Ministry drive! In 2014 Holy Trinity shipped to libraries at Stateville Correctional Center for men in Joliet and Fox Valley Adult Transition Center for women in Aurora a total of 18 boxes of books an estimated 630 books, weighing 540 pounds. This year we are adding as a recipient the hospice program at Dixon Correctional; for this site, uplifting fiction and nonfiction and inspirational books are appropriate. Plan to bring your used books to HTLoop or Holy Trinity Lakeview: Sat/Sun May 2/3, 9/10, 16/17. NOTE that we also need shipping boxes (size of printer paper box or smaller).
