Remembrance of Baptism Hymn O Living Breath of God During the hymn the assembly will be sprinkled with water from the baptismal font. As you receive the droplets you may make the sign of the cross in thanksgiving for the grace and mercy of our baptism into Jesus death and resurrection. [2]

3 The presiding minister bows toward the assembly which is the body of Christ and the primary symbol of God s presence in the liturgy. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you. Let us pray Amen ~ be seated ~ ::: Word ::: The narrative of Pentecost exemplifies Luke's expert storytelling ability. The reading includes hidden references to the Hebrew Bible, a citation from the prophets, a contemporary geography lesson, an account of miracles, and the folksy detail of the accusation of drunkenness. As we await the eschatological end of all things, we are now those who prophesy, see visions, and dream dreams. Although some Christians connect glossolalia with Pentecost, Luke describes these "tongues" as other languages with which to evangelize the world. 4 Psalm 104 The refrain is sung by the choir and repeated by the assembly. The choir sings the verses. Refrain: Second Reading Romans 8:22-27 How many and wise the works of the Lord! The earth with its wealth of creatures is stored. The sea bears in safety the ships to and fro; Leviathan plays in the waters below. Refrain Your creatures all look to you for their food. Your hand opens wide, they gather the good. When you hide your face, Lord, in anguish they yearn; when you stop their breathing, to dust they return. Refrain Before the Lord s might earth trembles and quakes. The mountains are rent, and smoke from them breaks. I promise to worship the Lord all my days. Yes, while I have being, my God I will praise. Refrain We and the whole creation are groaning in labor, awaiting the birth of God's new age in which Christ's resurrection will renew all things. Until that end time, we have the Spirit who is praying for us before God. Word of God, word of life. Thanks be to God. 5 Gospel Acclamation Creator Spirit, Heavenly Dove The Gospel of John is appointed for most of the primary festivals of the liturgical year because of John's high Christology and its centrality in the development of Christian doctrine. John says theologically the narrative of Pentecost: God sends the Spirit into the gathered community so that they can know the truth of Christ's resurrection. Christian theology subsumed John's description of the Advocate into its understanding of the Holy Spirit, and passages such as this led to the development of the doctrine of the Trinity. The Spirit is now the link between the believing community and God. The holy gospel according to John. Glory to you, O Lord. The gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ. Creator Spirit stanzas 3 5 (above) ~ be seated ~ Following the sermon there is a time of silence for reflection and quiet meditation. Our liturgy is not only made up of words, gestures and music, but also moments of silence. Wine is received either by drinking from the (silver) common cup, or by saving the bread and dipping it in the second (glass) cup. Gluten-free wafers are available from the presiding minister. Those not communing may come forward for a blessing, keeping your hands extended over your chest. For those unable to consume either wine or bread, communion is received fully in either element alone. Turn to face the cross as it recesses, you may bow as it passes, honoring the mystery of our salvation. For fifty days we have celebrated the victory of our Lord Jesus Christ over the powers of sin and death. We have proclaimed God s might acts and we have prayed that the power that was at work when God raised Jesus from the dead might be at work in us. I call upon you to live what you proclaim. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, will you dare to walk into God s future, trusting God to be your guide? By the Spirit s power, we will. Will you dare to embrace each other and grow together in love? We will. Will you dare to share your riches in common and minister to each other in need?

11 We will. Will you dare to pray for each other until your hearts beat with the longings of God? We will. Will you dare to carry the light of Christ into the world s dark places? We will. May the Spirit, who hovered over the waters when the world was created, breathe into you new life. Amen. 14 Prison Book Ministry Drive Thanks to all who have contributed to Holy Trinity's prison book collection drive this spring! You can do more now by participating in research toward the creation of a crowdfunding platform where people can donate to help incarcerated people pursue higher education. Contribute to the start-up exploration being done now by the project's volunteer design team (students from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business) by doing their brief survey at goo.gl/9kc6ni). You may decide whether to include your address if you are willing to be interviewed and/or to contribute at some point in the future. Holy Trinity Ambassadors Holy Trinity is excited to announce a new ambassador program! Ambassadors are members who have volunteered to be a resource for new church attendees and can be identified by a white Holy Trinity button. Everyone at Holy Trinity is welcoming of new members, but if you are new to our community and aren't sure who to talk with, look for those with a white button! Picnic and Concert - Grant Park Music Festival in Millennium Park Saturday, June 20 Join us for the first picnic and concert of the summer! We begin with worship at 5:00 p.m. at Grace Place (637 S. Dearborn). Then we have a short walk to Millennium Park for a potluck picnic on the lawn at 6:30 p.m. (bring an appetizer, salad or desert to share; your own drink, plate and utensils). The 7:30 p.m. show features music by Mozart and Shostakovich. Look for a Holy Trinity sign to find our group. Rain plan: We will picnic inside Grace Place! Special Parking Tip For Cubs Sundays In Lakeview Parking on the streets between Southport and Racine can sometimes be very challenging. Rather than driving around for 20 minutes, park west of Southport, and walk east 5-7 minutes to Holy Trinity. 15 Magnolia Project: Move With the nursery renovation complete, and the hallway/stairwells painted, we are ready to move on to Phase 2 of the project. Beginning June 8, asbestos will be removed from the Choir Room and the various rooms in the Spiritual Life Center. Once complete, we will paint and carpet the area. This means that WE NEED YOUR HELP!! Phase 2: Moving Volunteers We need volunteers on Sunday, June 7, following the 9:30 a.m. service, to help move furniture and items from the spaces in preparation for the asbestos abatement. Mark your calendars also for Sunday, June 28, when we will need volunteers to help return furniture and items to their proper places. All are welcome to help: there will be jobs/tasks for people of all ages and strengths. LUNCH WILL BE PROVIDED on both dates. Please sign up at the back of the church, office@htchicago.org, or speak to Josh. Phase 2: Painting Volunteers Volunteers willing to help paint the Spiritual Life Center and Choir room are needed.
