Prelude Quartetto in A Major (TWV 43) Georg Philip Telemann ( ) Gathering Hymn Easter Proclamation Remembrance of Baptism Canticle of Praise This is the Feast GATHERING The ringing of the meditation bowl calls us to silence, centering and reflection as we prepare for worship. At the conclusion of the introduction to the hymn stand and face the rear of the nave. Turn to face the cross as it enters; you may bow as the cross passes, honoring the mystery of our salvation. INCENSE used in festive processions, adds the sense of smell in worship and shows the significance of our bodies and all of God s creation. The clouds of incense represent purification and the rising of our prayers. Used in many religions, incense has roots in both Judaism and Christianity. #363 Come, You Faithful, Raise the Strain Alleluia! Christ is risen! Christ is risen indeed, Alleluia! During the canticle the assembly will be sprinkled with water from the baptismal font. As you receive the droplets you may make the sign of the cross in thanksgiving for the grace and mercy of our baptism into Jesus death and resurrection. [2]

4 First Reading Acts 5:27-32 Psalm 118 This Is the Day the Lord Hath Made Word of God, word of life. Thanks be to God. WORD Throughout the Sundays of the fifty days of Easter, passages from Acts proclaim the ongoing power of Christ s resurrection, which is not a single day s event, but is the continuing power of God in the believing community. In this excerpt, the believers continue the ministry of Christ by testifying publicly to his death and resurrection with the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. [4]

5 During the fifty days of Easter in year C, the second readings are exultant passages from the book of Revelation. It is as if in the resurrection of Christ, we all are already gathered around the heavenly throne with all the saints and angels to praise the victory of the Lamb. Yet at the same time, we look forward to the end of time, when the agonies described in Revelation will be no more, for believers will follow Christ to be born again from the dead. This creedal excerpt sets the stage for the subsequent six selections. Second Reading Revelation 1:4-8 Word of God, word of life. Thanks be to God. Stand to welcome the gospel and turn to face the book as the gospel is read in the midst of the assembly. Gospel Acclamation Setting: Aaron David Miller The cantor sings the alleluia and the assembly repeats. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe. (John 20:29) Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia. The church continues the pattern alluded to in John s gospel, of assembling on the first day of the week to receive the Spirit of the cross and resurrection and to exchange the peace of Christ. As we expect of John, the narrative in chapter 20 testifies to the identity of Christ as Lord and God. For Christians, to touch Christ is to touch God, and we do this in the flesh of our neighbor s hand at the peace and with the bread of Christ in our palm at communion. Gospel John 20:19-31 As the gospel is announced, you may trace a small cross on your forehead, lips and breast, a prayer that the Word may dwell in our minds, on our lips and in our hearts. ~ be seated ~ [5]

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. In baptism, we are welcomed into the body of Christ and sent to share in the mission of God. We are called to live among God's faithful people, to hear the word of God and share in the Lord's supper, to proclaim the good news of God in Christ through word and deed, to serve all people, following the example of Jesus, and to strive for justice and peace in all the earth. 7 Sisters and brothers in Christ, do you intend to continue in the covenant of your baptism among God's people in this place? Those being welcomed respond. I do, and I ask God to help and guide me. People of God, do you promise to support and pray for these new members in their life in Christ? We do, and we ask God to help and guide us. Let us welcome these sisters and brothers in Christ to this community of faith. We rejoice with you in the life of baptism. Wine is received either by drinking from the (silver) common cup, or by saving the bread and dipping it in the second (glass) cup. Gluten-free wafers are available from the presiding minister. Those not communing may come forward for a blessing, keeping your hands folded over your chest. For those unable to consume either wine or bread, communion is received fully in either element alone. I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth. And though worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God. 12 New Members Joining Today Brittany, Jerry & Milly Graunke are joining Holy Trinity after growing up in a variety of Lutheran and Presbyterian churches across the country. Currently living in Lincoln Park, they welcomed Milly into their lives about two and a half years ago and have been loving every minute since. They both work full time in the city, with Brittany doing operational consulting for a variety of startups around the city and Jerry running a software development agency in River North. They look forward to meeting everyone here! Guest Preacher Today Pastor Nitza Rosario has been a member of Holy Trinity since Nitza has served congregations in Puerto Rico, Brooklyn and Indiana. Currently she serves as a chaplain for Rainbow Hospice. She has one daughter, Bethany. 14 Holy Week And Easter Services: Many Thanks! We are basking in the resurrection, giving thanks for all those who made our Holy Week and Easter services so meaningful: musicians, sacristans, readers, crucifers, assisting ministers, incense bearers, intercessors, ushers, greeters, communion assistants, altar guild, bread bakers, dancers, decorators, servers at the Easter Vigil reception and breakfast, affirmation/baptism sponsors, and those who donated flowers, champagne, food, and their time and creativity! Dozens and dozens of our community came together to deepen our experience of the Easter mystery! Many thanks to all from Holy Trinity's staff. The Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, a seminary of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), forms visionary leaders to bear witness to the good news of Jesus Christ. LSTC graduates are grounded in the Lutheran tradition and informed by ecumenical and interfaith relationships. They are able to respond to the diversity and changing dynamics of contemporary life. They knowledgeably interpret the Scriptures and the ecumenical traditions of the church; witness to the reconciling Word of God through their lives and their ministries of service, teaching, preaching, administering the sacraments and inviting people to the Christian faith. They care for God s people and God s creation, revitalizing the church as it seeks to transform the world. Each year Holy Trinity has several Ministry in Context (MIC) students from LSTC. They are second-year students who participate in a variety of ways as they prepare for internship their third year of studies. Today's loose offering will go to support LSTC [14]
