1 Saint Charles Borromeo Parish Collaborative 280 Main Street Woburn, MA April 14,2019 Palm Sunday, the 6th Sunday of Lent Father, into Your hands I commit My Spirit. Luke 23:46 Jesus, the Woburn Mission Jesus, the Woburn Mission drew an average of 174 participants for each of the three nights of 3.31 through Fr. Wayne Belschner, Fr. John Carroll and Bishop Mark O Connell were inspiring homilists for the city-wide Lenten mission hosted by each of the Catholic parishes in Woburn. Over three evenings, a total of $2424 was given to the Lord and entrusted to the good works of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Friends of St. Anthony. Special thanks go to Joanne Campbell, Andrew Giordano, Todd Theriault for music; Mary Ann Chorlton for hospitality and to Deacon Ed Giordano and Michelle Parks for over-all organization. Mission Prayer for My Parish Almighty God, My parish is composed of people like me. I help make it what it is. It will be friendly if I am. It will be holy if I am. Its pews will be filled if I help fill them. It will do great work if I work. It will be prayerful if I pray. It will make generous gifts to many causes if I am a generous giver. It will bring other people into its worship if I invite and bring them. It will be a parish family of loyalty and love, of fearlessness and faith, of compassion, charity, and mercy if I who make it what it is am filled with these same qualities. Therefore, with the help of God, I will dedicate myself to the task of being all the things that I want my parish to be. Bless my journey, Lord God, that I might follow Jesus and build the Church for Your glory. Amen.

From the Desk of our Principal March 28, 2019 Dear Teachers, parents, and parishioners, It is with mixed emotions that I write to inform you that I will be stepping down from the position of Principal at the conclusion of the school year. My last day will be June 30. This past year has been very challenging for me. I have struggled to keep up with the demands of my position, while also balancing being a new mom. In my heart I know it is time for me to scale back and rebalance so that I may have more time with my family. When I interviewed at St. Charles in 2015, I immediately knew it was the place for me. We say it often, but St. Charles truly is a family. Over the past four years, SCS has become my second home. I cannot express how grateful I am to have had the opportunity to serve as your principal. I am making this announcement now so that the search committee has adequate time to secure a well-qualified replacement. Our school has grown in so many ways, and it is my firm belief that the next leader of St. Charles will build on our progress and take us to new heights. Thank you for your support. Warmly, Mrs. Blanchette, Principal Number provided by Archdiocese as of 4/1/19 $ 29,052
4 Palm Sunday Month of the Eucharist April 14,2019 Join us this week for the Sacred Triduum, Thursday April 18 through Saturday April 20. The summit of the Liturgical Year is the Easter Triduum from the evening of Holy Thursday to the eve of Easter Sunday. Though chronologically three days, they are liturgically one day unfolding and highlighting for us the unity of Christ's Paschal Mystery. The single celebration of the Triduum marks the end of the Lenten season, and leads to the Mass of the Resurrection of the Lord at the Easter Vigil. The liturgical services that take place during the Triduum during Holy Week are: Tri-lingual Mass of the Lord's Supper -Thursday April 18 at 7:00pm in the upper church Good Friday of the Lord's Passion -Friday April 19 at 3:00pm and 7:00pm in the upper church Tri-lingual Great Easter Vigil -Saturday April 20 at 8:00pm in the upper church beginning outside at the Easter Fire. PLENARY INDULGENCES FOR THE SEASONS OF LENT AND TRIDUUM Every Friday of Lent: Recitation of O Good and Gentle Jesus prayer after reception of the Holy Eucharist before an image of the crucified Christ. Holy Thursday: Praying the Tantum Ergo after the Mass of the Last Supper. Good Friday: Participating in the Veneration of the Cross. Holy Saturday: Renewing your baptismal vows at the Easter Vigil Attending any Mass of First Communion (Easter Vigil Mass is sometimes a First Communion Mass) may likewise earn a plenary indulgence. Only one plenary indulgence may be gained per day. Stations of the Cross: This always merits a plenary indulgence, no matter the season. It must be performed before 14 stations, lawfully erected, with devout meditation on the Passion of Our Lord and movement from one station to the next. If the crowd is large, the leader at least must move from station to station. "We adore you O Christ and we praise you because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world!" -- St. Francis In preparation for the coming and remembrance of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus on Easter Sunday, we fast. Simply put, we empty ourselves to receive something much better! And... Here are the church regulations for fasting and abstinence during Lent: Everyone 14 years of age or older is bound to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, all the Fridays of Lent and Good Friday. Everyone 18 or older, and under 59 years of age, is bound to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. On Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, only one full meatless meal is allowed. Two other meatless meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted. When health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige. Catholics should not lightly excuse themselves from these prescribed minimal penitential practices. *Those who are excused from fast or abstinence: Besides those outside the age limits, those of unsound mind, the sick, the frail, pregnant or nursing women according to need for meat or nourishment, manual laborers according to need, and other situations of moral or physical impossibility to observe the penitential discipline. Aside from these minimum penitential requirements Catholics are encouraged to impose some personal penance on themselves at other times. It could be modeled after abstinence and fasting. Use common sense!
5 Worship notes Scripture Challenge of the Week Father, into Your hands I commit My Spirit. -Luke 23:46 This week s reading of the Passion of Christ is a wake up to the dealings of human kind and the sincere need we have to center our lives on the Messiah and turn from our misdeeds to Him who is merciful and just. Many times we may feel the absence of God in our daily trials. Just as Jesus prays in today s psalm in His cry from the cross, My God My God, why have You abandoned me?, we too need to pray for the grace to trust as He trusted in committing our spirit to God the maker of our spirit. A tradition with our Spanish community, this huge effort brings the Gospel message of Christ s passion into the streets of Woburn. The Eucharist is the Supreme proof of the love of Jesus: after this there is nothing more but Heaven - St Peter Julian Eymard, Founder of the Most Blessed Sacrament Fathers Prayer Before the Crucifix Behold, O kind and gentle Jesus, I kneel before You and pray that You would impress upon my heart the virtues of faith, hope and charity, with true repentance for my sins and a firm purpose of amendment. At the same time, with sorrow I meditate on Your five precious wounds, having in mind the words which David spoke in prophecy "They have pierced My hands and My feet. I can count all My bones."
