2 The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity May 31, 2015 Pastor s Note May 30 June 6 The Most Holy Trinity There is some logical order in what we celebrate in the church. After Jesus Resurrection and ascension to Heaven, we have celebrated last weekend Pentecost, the feast of the Holy Spirit, descending on the Apostles. It is with that the manifestation of God arrived to an end. For that reason, this celebration of today, is to honor and remember God in all his manifestation to us, as a Father, as a Son, and as Spirit, each one of them sharing the same and unique divinity. The Most Holy Trinity presents a life with in the divine life, a life of perfect love, that not only finish within the divine life, but that goes out, creating the world, redeeming it after the fall, and helping, guiding and sanctifying the people of God in the story of salvation. It is precise Love according what and how the scholars explain the mystery, how the union of the trinity happened. This is the image that all Christian people are called to imitate, as Jesus told us: By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another (Jn 13:35). As our Pope said : We are all called to witness and proclaim the message that God is love, that God isn t far and insensitive to our human affairs. He is close to us, always beside us, walking with us to share our joys and our sorrows, our hopes and our struggles. He loves us very much and for that reason he became man, he came into the world not to condemn it, but so the world would be saved through Jesus (cf. Jn 3:16-17). And this is the love of God in Jesus, this love that is so difficult to understand but that we feel when we draw close to Jesus. And he always forgives us, he always awaits us, he loves us so much. And we feel the love of Jesus and the love of God. (Pope Francis, Sunday, 15 June 2014) When we were baptized in the Name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, all our lives are touched by this mystery and we are called to carry it out, to imitate the mysteries in which we believe. We are called to imitate the Father in his love and care for some thing else than himself that created the whole world not for him but for us. In the same way we should go out to help others even and especially when the outcome will not affect our own lives, except spiritually of course. We are called to imitate the Son, who in his love for us sacrifices him self to unite us with the Fathers, but in him we see and we should imitate the desire to save the ones who were lost. ( Rom 5:8) Finally we are called to imitate the Holy Spirit: who in the life within the Most Holy Trinity He is the love between the Father and the Son, and in the Story of Salvation He is the one who guides, inspires, and sanctifies. We should be within our families and community the love that unites all of them, and outside of them, after we have received the Holy Spirit in our lives, we should the one who show the image of God to all and doing that we will became the inspiration for other, we guide and growing in holiness ourselves motive others to grow the grace of God within them. The Holy Spirit, gift of the Risen Jesus, conveys divine life to us and thus lets us enter into the dynamism of the Trinity, which is a dynamism of love, of communion, of mutual service, of sharing. A person who loves others for the very joy of love is a reflection of the Trinity. A family in which each person loves and helps one another is a reflection of the Trinity. A parish in which each person loves and shares spiritual and material effects is a reflection of the Trinity. (Pope Francis, Sunday, 15 June 2014) Let us pray that Our Blessed Mother who was united with the most Holy Trinity in an incredible way, (Daughter of the Father, Mother of the Son, and Wife of the Holy Spirit) will became a model for us. Through no fault of their own, their parents are taken from them, a wrenching separation that can generate feelings of abandonment, shame, grief--even guilt. Statistics indicate that these children are more likely to experience poverty and family instability, loss of home and school. Visits to a parent in prison can help to lessen the impact of parental incarceration on the child. Regular visits help to strengthen family bonds a significant factor resulting in lower rates of recidivism for the parents. (Center for Restorative Justice Works Get On The Bus brochure) This is an opportunity to support the children of incarcerated parents. This year, on June 7, you will have the opportunity of signing up for a specific gift to be given to a child s chaperone on the bus. The gifts must be brought to the church on June 14. On June 7 at all of the morning Masses, Sr. Elaine Coutu will speak to us. She is the local coordinator of Get on the Bus. How to explain the Holy Trinity to children 1. St. Patrick used a shamrock to explain how the Holy Trinity works. Each petal on the clover represents an entity of God. The top petal is God.

First, a child needs to understand that according to Christianity, God is, was, and always will be. No one made Him. He has always existed.

Children are usually very open to accepting this fact, especially if living a Christian life is taught daily in the home. 3.

This is something that Christians accept as truth because of our belief in God and what is written in the Bible. Children are usually very open to accepting this fact, especially if living a Christian life is taught daily in the home. 3. Christian children hear stories about Jesus all the time in Sunday School classes and at home. They know who Jesus is and why he came to earth. Telling children that Jesus is God in human flesh is the next step part of the Trinity. To make this concept clear to children, you may want to point them to Bible scripture where it tells that God is Jesus. Such verses include Matthew 1:23, John 1:14 and John 10: When Jesus left the earth, there was no longer any physical sign of God's dwelling in our life. God (Jesus) had gone back to heaven. But he did leave something very important for us as we continued to walk in His presence. He left us the Holy Spirit. You can point your child to scripture about the Pentecost, which is the first time God entered the disciples bodies to live in them forever. 5. The Holy Spirit is what guides us in making decisions, which children can relate to. If they do something wrong, do they feel sorry for it? If they help another person, do they feel joy? The Holy Spirit guides our emotions and makes us think before we act upon something. The Holy Spirit is a Christian's assurance that God has not left us, even though we have never seen Him or Jesus in the flesh. 6. God left us one other very important piece to understanding the Holy Trinity. This is the Bible. We can use the Bible and its scripture to show children exactly where each piece of the Holy Trinity started and the hope that we have in Jesus' return
