This first line of today s first reading sets the tone as this fifty-day celebration of Easter opens before us. Today we listen to the teachings of three apostles Luke, Peter, and John who remind us that even though we have not seen Christ, we nonetheless are filled with joy as we place our belief in his saving death and resurrection. Each week during the Easter season we will gather as a community of faith to find strength and support from our God and from one another. Each week we will gather to break bread and offer the great prayer of thanksgiving, actions that will manifest the very presence of the risen Christ in our midst. Let us be open to the wonders of this season of joy. Our Family Prayer Loving and faithful God, through the years the people of our archdiocese have appreciated the prayers and love of Our Lady of Prompt Succor in times of war, disaster, epidemic and illness. We come to you, Father, with Mary our Mother, and ask you to help us in the battle of today against violence, murder and racism. We implore you to give us your wisdom that we may build a community founded on the values of Jesus, which gives respect to the life and dignity of all people. Bless parents that they may form their children in faith. Bless and protect our youth that they may be peacemakers of our time. Give consolation to those who have lost loved ones through violence. Hear our prayer and give us the perseverance to be a voice for life and human dignity in our community. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Our Lady of Prompt Succor, hasten to help us. Mother Henriette Delille, pray for us that we may be a holy family. Amen. David Frank Assigned to SCS Dear St. Catherine of Siena Parish, My name is David Frank, and I am 28 years old. I am a seminarian finishing my third year of theology at Notre Dame Seminary. I will be ordained a transitional deacon on May 20 (at the Cathedral at 10 a.m.--you are all invited!) and will be joining you at St. Catherine of Siena for the next five months! In answer to the all important question, Where d you go to high school? I was homeschooled, which makes me an amused outsider to the many high school rivalries. I then attended Christendom College, a tiny but amazing Catholic college in Virginia. During college my sense of God's call in my life grew stronger, so after graduation I returned to New Orleans and applied to seminary. Among my various talents are winning at foosball, losing at tennis, playing piano, attempting to play guitar, and finding misprints in the New York Times. I am excited to begin my assignment here as your next "Deacon David" on May 30! I look forward to meeting you all and serving you as a deacon. David Frank Liturgical Minister In-Service: April 29 Extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, readers, ushers, and greeters are asked to attend an In-Service Saturday, April 29, 9:30-11:30 am, in the rectory.
