How is it that you ve moved so far away? one man asked another. Perhaps, the other replied, you have moved away. By standing still. This exchange very well could have happened between Peter and Jesus, had Peter been allowed to erect tents to stay on the mount of the Transfiguration. He nearly succumbed to the temptation to stay in a place of wonder and light. But Jesus knew the hard truth: we are on a continual journey when we are walking the paths of God s will. It is not good for us to stay in one place on our faith journey. Equally unhealthy is staying put in times of joy and wonder to avoid life s difficulties, or to wallow in our trials and temptations and fail to be companions for our sisters and brothers who are also suffering or celebrating! The pilgrim Church is required to do one thing on its Lenten journey: to walk continually with Christ as his Body born of water and the Spirit, seeking God s will, helping the reign of God to be known on earth, being led to the end of our journey, transfigured for all time into the company of heaven. Our Family Prayer Loving and faithful God, through the years the people of our archdiocese have appreciated the prayers and love of Our Lady of Prompt Succor in times of war, disaster, epidemic and illness. We come to you, Father, with Mary our Mother, and ask you to help us in the battle of today against violence, murder and racism. We implore you to give us your wisdom that we may build a community founded on the values of Jesus, which gives respect to the life and dignity of all people. Bless parents that they may form their children in faith. Bless and protect our youth that they may be peacemakers of our time. Give consolation to those who have lost loved ones through violence. Hear our prayer and give us the perseverance to be a voice for life and human dignity in our community. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Our Lady of Prompt Succor, hasten to help us. Second Daily Mass / More Confession Times We have 6 pm Mass in addition to 9 am daily Mass during Lent. The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be available on Wednesday evenings, 5-6 pm on March 15 and April 12, and 5-6:30 pm on Wednesday, March 22 and 29, and on April 5. Stations of the Cross will take place at 2:45 pm and 6:30 pm each Friday during Lent. Adoration Chapel Schedule Change: March 12 The Adoration Chapel will close on Sunday, March 12, from 10 am to 8 pm, due to the St. Patrick s Day Parade. Girl Scouts Selling Cookies Before the Parade The Girl Scouts will be on hand selling cookies before the St. Patrick s Day Parade, Sunday, March 12, 10 am-noon, in the school yard by the parking lot entrance. Cookies are $4 per box. If you ve given up sweets for Lent, the cookies freeze very well! Adult Confirmation Class Starts March 15 Our new Adult Confirmation program starts on Wednesday, March 15. Anyone who is past high school age and has not received the Sacrament of Confirmation is eligible for this preparation program. To sign up, call Michelle in the parish office. CYO: Mass + With Wednesdays during Lent All high school students are invited to attend Mass on Wednesday, March 15, at 6 pm in the church, followed by With Wednesday : with food, fellowship, and faith, starting at 7 pm in the Youth Room. With Wednesdays also will take place on March 22 and 29 and April 5 and 12. Youthful Elders to Meet March 16 The Youthful Elders will meet on Thursday, March 16, 1 pm, in the Melancon Center. Pizza will be served. JR CYO Meeting: March 17 All Junior High students (6-7th grade) are invited to our meeting on Friday, March 17, 3:30-5 pm, in the Youth Room. CYO Youth Mass and CYO Night: March 19 Junior high (6th and 7th grade) and high school (8-12th grade) students are invited to our monthly Youth Mass, on Sunday, March 19, at 5:30 pm in the church. After Mass, all high school students (grades 8-12) are invited to the Youth Room for this month s Youth Night and dinner from 6:30-8 pm. Fish Fry Set for Friday, March 10 The SCS Men s Club is sponsoring a fish fry on Friday, March 10, 5:30-7 pm, in the Cafeteria. The following will be served: fish, shrimp, and combo plates, $9 each; and soft shell crab, $12. Plates include two hushpuppies, French fries, and Italian salad. Pizza also will be served for $2 per slice. Take out is available. Drinks and desserts will be available for purchase. CYO: Abbey Youth Fest: March 25 All high school students (8-12th grade) are invited to join St. Catherine s CYO to attend Abbey Youth Fest on Saturday, March 25, where youth from around the diocese gather for music, speakers, Mass with Archbishop Gregory Aymond, and candlelight Adoration, all on the grounds of beautiful Saint Joseph Abbey. The cost is $40 plus meal cost (select meal options on the form and add to the basic $40 cost). Please hand in registration form and payment to the parish office by Friday, March 17. Eucharistic Minister Training Basic Workshops for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are being offered at various locations through June 10. Fluorescent Bulbs Available Free of Charge All lights on the St. Catherine of Siena campus have been changed to LEDs. 8 Around the Archdiocese St. Joseph Altar at SFX: March 18 and 19 After viewing SCS s altar, if you want to visit St. Francis Xavier s St. Joseph Altar, it will be open for public viewing on Saturday, March 18, 9 am-7:30 pm. On Sunday, March 19, public viewing will be from 8:30 am-6 pm, with feeding from 11 am-2 pm. St. Francis Xavier is located at 444 Metairie Road, Metairie, and the St. Joseph Alter is in the gym. Performance of New Love Story: March A unique, modern-day retelling of the story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, based on the writings of Pope John Paul II, will be performed Thursday-Sunday, March 16-19, at Notre Dame Seminary Schulte Auditorium, 2901 S. Carrollton Ave., New Orleans. GARDEN: An Original Love Story is a brand new, original, full-stage musical play written by seminarian Joey Martineck and featuring the original music of Greg&Lizzy. Dumb Ox Ministries, in collaboration with Notre Dame Seminary, is presenting this weekend of life-changing performances that breathe new life into the most familiar story of God s love for his people and the origins of our humanity. Men s Morning of Spirituality: March 18 The 2017 Men s Morning of Spirituality will feature prominent members of the local Legal-Judicial community, Ralph Capitelli and Judge Ray Zainey, as well as Mass with Archbishop Aymond, Reconciliation, Adoration, and great music! NFP Series Starting on March 21 With professional instruction, Natural Family Planning (NFP) has proven itself to be safe, effective, and a moral way for couples to plan their families. NFP respects the meaning of human sexuality as God created it, thus strengthening marital love. The Family Life Apostolate is offering this series in the Sympto-Thermal Method of NFP, conducted by Caroline Sholl of the Archdiocese of New Orleans, on March 21, April 4, and April 18 (Tuesdays), with the final meeting on Monday, May 15. More than 80 internationally renowned actors helped bring the Scriptures to life, complete with an original music score. Additionally, it has a foreword from Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI. Camp Abbey Summer Camp 2017 Camp Abbey is a Catholic overnight summer camp for children completing 2nd through 8th grades. It includes hiking, arts and crafts, sports, boating, archery, swimming, skits, prayer and sacramental opportunities, and much more. Campers grow closer to Christ and have fun doing it! Week-long Boys Camps begin each Sunday in June; week-long Girls Camps begin on Sunday, July 2, 9, 16, and 23. Paid summer camp staff positions are also available for high school students (two weeks duration) and for college students and young adults (one-month positions). Camp Abbey is a ministry of the CYO/Youth and Young Adult Ministry Office. Camper registration, staff applications, and additional details are available at Mother/Daughter and Father/Son Programs Set for Saturday, March 11 at SCS Programs exploring God s special gift of human fertility and the beauty and wonder of growing up and becoming a woman or man will take place on Saturday, March 11, 7-9 pm, at St. Catherine of Siena. The mother/daughter (10-12 years old) program will meet in the Melancon Center; the father/son (11-14 years old) meeting will be in the Barrett Complex. The purpose of these programs is to provide an atmosphere of love and learning to discuss the important topic of growing up and to establish a foundation for continued communication between parent and child. The programs will be presented by health care professionals, and mothers and daughters/fathers and sons.
