The agricultural metaphors in all of today s readings give richness to the message that the word of God, cultivated in our hearts, bears much fruit in our lives. Creation itself awaits the redemption of all, even as our bodies await the resurrection. Just as we will rejoice in the fulfillment of God s word, so will all of creation sing for joy in the Reign of God. The word of God is effective and holy; it brings about exactly what it says. It is not futile or empty, but rich in meaning for those who hear and are healed. Those who hear the word of God and keep it will, with all creation, bear much fruit and sing for joy. Our Family Prayer Loving and faithful God, through the years the people of our archdiocese have appreciated the prayers and love of Our Lady of Prompt Succor in times of war, disaster, epidemic and illness. We come to you, Father, with Mary our Mother, and ask you to help us in the battle of today against violence, murder and racism. We implore you to give us your wisdom that we may build a community founded on the values of Jesus, which gives respect to the life and dignity of all people. Bless parents that they may form their children in faith. Bless and protect our youth that they may be peacemakers of our time. Give consolation to those who have lost loved ones through violence. Hear our prayer and give us the perseverance to be a voice for life and human dignity in our community. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Our Lady of Prompt Succor, hasten to help us. CYO Paintball Outing: July 17 On Monday, July 17, we are taking a group of teens paintballing to learn about spiritual combat. We will leave for the outing at 9 am. CYO Mass and Youth Night: July 23 Due to a scheduling conflict, CYO will take place on the third Sunday in July. Junior high (6-7th grade) and high school students (8-12th grade) are invited to our monthly Youth Mass, July 23 at 5:30 pm, and then to the Youth Room for the monthly youth night and dinner from 6:30-8 pm. Register Now for CYO Summer Fun Trip Just 4 spots remain for the Annual CYO Summer Fun Trip, which will include white water rafting, caving, and hiking in North Carolina, August The trip is open to high school students (8th grade-seniors for ) and the cost is $450, which includes transportation and all mountain adventures. 5 Parish Snapshots Paul James of Boy Scout Troop 230 conducted a hygiene supply drive for his Eagle Scout service project. The donations were given to the Harry Thompson Center in New Orleans, which provides shelter and basic needs to people experiencing homelessness. Over 4,500 items were collected during the week-long drive last month! Thank you to all for your generous donations. Stained Glass Restoration Project St. Catherine of Siena is blessed to have beautiful stained glass windows in our church. During the last major church renovation, the side stained glass windows were completely restored. Since the current church was built in 1957, however, the large stained glass windows have not had any work done on them. Over the last five decades, the frames have rusted and the windows have warped. If you walk up to the choir loft, you can see the current condition of the windows and the need to do something. In order to preserve the large windows for another 50+ years, they are in need of restoration. Thanks to the generosity of Mr. Louie Roussel, III, we will begin work on restoring the two large stained glass windows in August. The project will be completed in three phases. Phase 1 will include the installation of scaffolding, the removal of the stained glass panels, and removal of the scaffolding. Phase 1 is scheduled to begin on August 14, 2017 and will conclude by September 29, 2017 (if everything goes as planned). After Phase 1 is completed, the panels will be shipped to Conrad Schmidt Studios where they will be completely restored. The restoration process will include the following: the windows will be completely taken apart, they will be cleaned, any broken pieces will be fixed, they will be reassembled with new lead, and new reinforcement bars will be installed. This process will take around two months. During this time, the windows will just have the clear protective plexiglass currently in place. Phase 2 and Phase 3 will involve installing new window frames, the newly restored windows, and new protective glass. The windows will be re-installed one at a time. The new protective glass will be clear and allow the brilliance of the stained glass to be seen from outside of the church. The current plexiglass has become discolored over time. Phases 2 & 3 will again involve the installation of scaffolding in the church. The timeline for Phases 2 & 3 will be set as soon as possible and we will communicate it with you as soon as it is set. Our goal will be to have at least the sanctuary window back in place before Christmas and the choir loft window back in soon after. Mr. Louie Roussel, III, is doing this project in honor of his mother. Please pray for him and his intentions as we give thanks to God for his great generosity! Cedric Pisegna will be preaching the annual St. Ann Novena, July 18-26, at St. Ann Church & Shrine, 3601 Transcontinental Dr., Metairie. The novena will be held at 10 am and 7 pm on weekdays. The Saturday, July 22, novena is scheduled for 10 am and will include Anointing of the Sick. Fr. Pisegna is the author of 20 books and will have them available at the novena. He has a television ministry that airs on WLAE Sundays at 10:30 am and Mondays at 9 pm, and on TBN Sundays at 7 am. YCP Speaker Hon. Jay P. Zainey: July 18 United States District Judge Jay P. Series on the Vocation of the Laity: July 18 A four-part series exploring the beauty and power found in the Catholic vision for laity in the Church and in the world will meet on consecutive Tuesday evenings, 7-8:30 pm, starting on July 18, in St. Joseph Hall of Notre Dame Seminary, 2901 S. Carrollton Ave. Dr. Tom Neal, professor of spiritual theology at Notre Dame Seminary, and Susie Veters, Catholic Foundation director of stewardship and parish services, will lead the series, which will explore a practical theology of the vocation and mission of the laity found in the teachings of the Second Vatican Council. Weekend for Troubled Marriages: July In our society, with the pressures of conflicting demands and too little time, personal relationships are often taken for granted. With all the distractions, we easily forget that without attention and care, marriages wither. Couples slowly and quietly drift apart or are being torn apart by terrible words and actions. Many are married in name only or just stay together for the sake of the kids. For many, it has been ages since they knew the joy of a loving relationship. When infidelity, alcohol abuse, or drug dependency is involved, the situation may seem even more hopeless. Retrouvaille is helping couples put the pieces back together and rebuild loving relationships. Retrouvaille consists of a weekend experience and a series of six follow-up sessions, along with a monthly support group. The next weekend for the New Orleans community is July at Lumen Christi Retreat Center in Schriever, La., near Houma. Formed.org Parish Code: YJRRTG Substance Addiction Ministry: July 24 The St. Angela Merici Substance Addiction Ministry (SAM) will meet on Monday, July 24, 7 pm, in the St. Angela Merici Religious Education Library, located in the parish office, 901 Beverly Garden Dr., Metairie. SAM exists to help those suffering from the spiritual illness of addiction and who are disconnected from self, loved ones, and God, to reconnect through education, prevention, referral, and family support. SAM provides education awareness regarding personal pain and will refer those in need to sources of help. Support, acceptance, understanding, and healing are extended to those touched by addiction.
