Peter and Paul; St. Rose Philippine Duchesne; Blessed Virgin Mary We consider wisdom today. The first reading from the book of Wisdom presents this precious gift as a feminine spirit, a very desirable virtue sought by many and graciously present to all who seek her. In today's Gospel, Jesus tells a parable to illustrate wisdom in a practical, measurable way. The wise will conserve their resources, use them prudently, and mark the passing of time. The foolish, on the other hand, not planning ahead, will be in the dark. Both of these readings tell us how accessible wisdom is to all who simply and honestly seek it. Paul's words to the Thessalonians are not about wisdom, but describe one result of true wisdom: To the wise person of faith even death holds no terror. Our faith in Jesus' resurrection tells us we will all one day rise to new life in Christ. Archdiocesan Family Prayer Loving and faithful God, through the years the people of our archdiocese have appreciated the prayers and love of Our Lady of Prompt Succor in times of war, disaster, epidemic and illness. We come to you, Father, with Mary our Mother, and ask you to help us in the battle of today against violence, murder and racism. We implore you to give us your wisdom that we may build a community founded on the values of Jesus, which gives respect to the life and dignity of all people. Bless parents that they may form their children in faith. Bless and protect our youth that they may be peacemakers of our time. Give consolation to those who have lost loved ones through violence. Hear our prayer and give us the perseverance to be a voice for life and human dignity in our community. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Our Lady of Prompt Succor, hasten to help us. 3 Parish News KC Jambalaya Boxed Lunches: November 12 Knights of Columbus Council will be serving jambalaya boxed lunches, $9 each, in the parking lot on today, November 12, 10 am- 12:15 pm. The boxes contain jambalaya, salad, bread, and dessert. Using a unique color-coded system, the study touches on the major people, places, and events of the Bible and shows how they all come together to reveal the remarkable story of our faith. I Give Online Cards for Offertory Use Those who contribute to St. Catherine by means of monthly credit card charge or bank draft are welcome and encouraged to pick up a green I Give Online card from one of the baskets on the tables in the narthex, and then to place the card in the collection during the offertory. Taking part in the offertory collection symbolizes our self-offering and grateful return of a portion of our material blessings to God, Source of all blessings. Vocation Cross 2018 Signups this Weekend Members of the St. Catherine Vocation Committee are inviting parishioners to sign up in the back of church for 2018 dates to take a vocation cross home and pray for vocations for a month. On the second Sunday of the month at all Masses, a vocation cross is given to a family or individual who commits to pray for vocations for that month. Those making this commitment agree to attend the Mass for which they signed up to accept the cross after the homily (a booklet with suggested prayers is provided), and to return the vocation cross and booklet to the church office on the Wednesday before the second Sunday of the following month. A reminder is sent the week before one s scheduled date. Interested in signing up but attending Mass elsewhere this weekend? Due to delays in getting the new frame manufactured, the windows will not be re-installed until January/February of Thank you for your patience. Prayerful and Welcoming Environment One of the goals of the pastoral plan developed based on all of the feedback from the coffees hosted by Fr. Ronnie and Fr. Tim when they arrived was to create a welcoming and prayerful environment before, during and after all weekend Masses. The committee implementing that goal has already accomplished a number of things: playing soft chant music before Mass, adding etiquette/welcoming children cards in the pews, and training Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist to serve as greeters before and after Mass. Beginning the first Sunday of Advent, we will be roping off the last few pews in the two center sections of the church (the side sections will not be roped off). Reserving space in the back of church will allow anyone who arrives after Mass has begun to enter a pew without having to walk to the front of the church, and possibly distracting those already present. Please do not move the ropes or sit in the roped off area. The ushers will open these sections, if needed, after Mass starts. We appreciate your understanding and help as we seek to foster a more welcoming and prayerful environment. If you have any questions about this, please see Fr. Ronnie or Fr. Tim. Upcoming Sanctuary Work After requests from many parishioners and after consulting with the pastoral council, the liturgy committee, and the parish staff, some work will be done in the sanctuary in the coming weeks. As we seek to be a community Centered on Christ we will be moving the tabernacle to the center of the sanctuary in front of the crucifix. A new marble altar will be built and the ornate tabernacle from the adoration chapel will be used in the main church. The tabernacle in the church will be moved to the adoration chapel. Thanks to the generosity of a parishioner / contractor, all of the construction work will be donated. The only cost associated with project is the cost of purchasing the marble for the new altar. If you have any questions or if you would like to contribute to the cost of the marble, please contact Fr. Tim in the parish office. The work will begin in the coming weeks, but it will take a few months for the new altar to be constructed. In the meantime, the tabernacle will be on the pedestal from the chapel. 8 Archdiocesan News Exhibit Celebrates 300 Years of NOLA Catholicism The new exhibit of the Catholic Cultural Heritage Center, The Church in the Crescent: 300 Years of Catholicism in New Orleans, is open for viewing at the Old Ursuline Convent Museum, Monday-Friday, 10 am-4 pm and Saturday, 9 am-3 pm. Substance Addiction Ministry: November 13 The St. Angela Merici Substance Addiction Ministry (SAM) will meet on Monday, November 13, 7-9 pm, in the parish conference room, located off of Melody Drive on the parking lot side entrance to the church. SAM exists to help those suffering from the spiritual illness of addiction and who are disconnected from self, loved ones, and God, to reconnect through education, prevention, referral, and family support. SAM provides education awareness regarding personal pain and will refer those in need to sources of help. Support, acceptance, understanding, and healing are extended to those touched by addiction. Doors of the Community Center will open at 6 pm. A panel discussion will follow the showing, at 8 pm. The Hungry Heart opens up dialogue around many issues connected to addiction and recovery and serves as a jumping off point for discussion and action steps that many communities need. Over 46 million people in the United States live in poverty. This collection supports programs to empower people to identify and address the obstacles they face as they work to lift themselves out of poverty. Learn more about the Catholic Campaign for Human Development at PEACE Prayer Walk: November 28 The November PEACE Prayer Walk is scheduled for Tuesday, November 27, 6 pm, at St. Mary s Academy, 6905 Chef Menteur Highway, New Orleans. The PEACE Prayer walk is a response to Pope Francis call to go out into the community to encounter and dialogue with others to promote peace. In the event of inclement weather, the walk will take place on December 5.
