It s a life-changing invitation, and like so many other such invitations, it requires a great deal of deliberation and discernment. Whether we choose marriage, ordination, single life, or community life, we know the serious planning and consideration that accompany these profound decisions. Like the tower-builder in the Gospel, we have weighed both the monetary and emotional cost. We have pondered and planned our lives in the direction to which we believe God has called us. And while we pray for guidance and acceptance of God s will, we often fail to understand so much. Like Solomon, we turn to God for wisdom and counsel in our life-changing decisions. Our Family Prayer Loving and faithful God, through the years the people of our archdiocese have appreciated the prayers and love of Our Lady of Prompt Succor in times of war, disaster, epidemic and illness. We come to you, Father, with Mary our Mother, and ask you to help us in the battle of today against violence, murder and racism. We implore you to give us your wisdom that we may build a community founded on the values of Jesus, which gives respect to the life and dignity of all people. Bless parents that they may form their children in faith. Bless and protect our youth that they may be peacemakers of our time. Give consolation to those who have lost loved ones through violence. Hear our prayer and give us the perseverance to be a voice for life and human dignity in our community. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Our Lady of Prompt Succor, hasten to help us. 3 Parish News Parish Office Closing for Labor Day The Parish Office will close on Friday, September 2nd at 4:30pm and reopen on Tuesday, September 6th at 8:30 am in observance of the Labor Day weekend. Parenting With Mercy: September 15 Mark your calendar for the first of three Year of Mercy presentations we will be offering here at St. Catherine of Siena. On Thursday, September 15 at 7:00 pm in the church, Chris and Christine Baglow will present God s Mercy for When Raising a Child is Tough. Radio Rosary: September 9 Please join us for our next Radio Rosary at 6:00 pm in the Conference Room. Life Line Screening: September 21 St. Catherine is hosting Life Line Screenings on Wednesday, September 21 in the Melancon Center. Adoration Chapel Closing for Labor Day The Adoration Chapel will close for the Labor Day weekend on Friday, September 2nd at 9am and will reopen on Tuesday, September 6th at 10am. The Blessed Sacrament will be reposed in the Chapel for those who wish to adore during this time and is accessible via the keypad. Our Chapel is in need of Adorers!! Archdiocesan Safe Environment Policy St. Catherine of Siena Parish and School take the commitment to protect children very seriously. All of our employees and volunteers must complete the following two-part process before working with children in our parish: Attend a safe environment training session. The sessions last approximately one hour. A list of training sessions can be found at / environment. Adults may attend any session offered by the Archdiocese. There will be a session here at SCS on Thursday, September 29th at 7:00 pm in the Barrett. Complete an online application at / The access code is safety. This makes it possible for us to run a background check. Leaders of ministries that work with children have all received Safe Environment information for the year. The parish office must have a list of all volunteers for each ministry involving children before any activity begins. 8 Around the Diocese Lord, Teach Me To Pray at SCS Rachel s Vineyard: October Lord, Teach Me To Pray is a three-part prayer series for men and women based on Ignatian Spirituality. Part 1, Praying Christian Virtues, helps deepen prayer life, and discover what to do for dryness and obstacles in prayer. It also introduces the different methods of Ignatian prayer, meditation, contemplation and Consciousness Examen. Part 2, My 19th Annotation, the entire Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola will be available for those who have completed Part 1. Part 3, Discernment & Gifts of the Spirit, (14 week program) invites the group to pray with the Holy Spirit and St. Ignatius Rules for Discernment. Part 3 is available for those who have completed Parts 1 & 2. Groups of men and women will meet separately. Small groups will meet with 2 trained facilitators for 1 2 hours once a week to pray and faith share. Next God s Special Children s Mass: September 11 Join us for our next God s Special Children s Mass on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at 2:00pm at St. Francis Xavier Church. Catholic Foundation Money Management Class: Beginning September 15 Financial Peace University (FPU) teaches God s ways of handling money. Through video teaching, class discussions and interactive small group activities, FPU presents biblical, practical steps to get from where you are to where you ve dreamed you could be. FPU classes meet for around an hour and a half each week for nine weeks. FPU will show you how to get rid of debt, manage your money, spend and save wisely, all through a Catholic setting!
