Cornelius and Cyprian St. Robert Bellarmine; Blessed Virgin Mary Scripture Reflection True reconciliation is emotional, dramatic, and cleansing. When two people meet heart to heart and work through old hurts, misunderstandings, and careless words, cleansing tears often flow and the encounter ends with an embrace that fills both with the warmth of a love too strong to fade. The readings this weekend assure us of this healthy release that comes with reconciliation. They give us the courage to reach out to someone with whom we need to reconcile ourselves, and give us the courage to ask for forgiveness from God, too. In the reading from Exodus, we see how God refuses again and again to give up on the Israelites. Even though they grow impatient with God and turn to false idols, God still calls them back. Luke s Gospel assures us that God rejoices when we turn away from sin. Paul s letter to Timothy encourages us, like Paul, to look back on our lives and recognize where God s patient mercy has been shown to us. Our Family Prayer Loving and faithful God, through the years the people of our archdiocese have appreciated the prayers and love of Our Lady of Prompt Succor in times of war, disaster, epidemic and illness. We come to you, Father, with Mary our Mother, and ask you to help us in the battle of today against violence, murder and racism. We implore you to give us your wisdom that we may build a community founded on the values of Jesus, which gives respect to the life and dignity of all people. Bless parents that they may form their children in faith. Bless and protect our youth that they may be peacemakers of our time. Give consolation to those who have lost loved ones through violence. Hear our prayer and give us the perseverance to be a voice for life and human dignity in our community. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Our Lady of Prompt Succor, hasten to help us. September 13 There will be a meeting on Tuesday, September 13 in the Melancon Center, Room 2B for anyone interested in learning how to get their marriage blessed by the Church. Citywide Confessions: September 14 As part of the citywide confessions on Wednesday, September 14, the sacrament of reconciliation will be available from 5:00pm to 6:30pm here at St. Catherine in the Church. Parenting With Mercy: September 15 Mark your calendar for the first of three Year of Mercy presentations we will be offering here at St. Catherine of Siena. On Thursday, September 15 at 7:00 pm in the church, Chris and Christine Baglow will present God s Mercy for When Raising a Child is Tough. Catholic Communication Campaign: September 17&18 Next week, we will have a second collection for the Catholic Communication Campaign This collection communicates the Gospel through Catholic social media activities and enriches our faith through television, radio, social media, podcasts, and print media. Half of all proceeds remain in our archdiocese and support local needs, so please be generous in this collection. Ministry Fair: September 17 &18 Join us in the Melancon Center after all masses the weekend of September 17 & 18 to learn which ministries you would enjoy becoming a part of. Holy Land Sales: September 17 & 18 Representatives from the Holy Land will be at St. Catherine of Siena on the weekend of September 17 & 18 selling religious items. All money raised will be used to help maintain Churches and support Christians living in the Holy Land. Life Line Screening: September 21 St. Catherine is hosting Life Line Screenings on Wednesday, September 21 in the Melancon Center. Safe Environment Training: September 29 There will be a Safe Environment training session here at St. Catherine on Thursday, September 29 at 7:00pm in the Barrett Complex. Child Care Ministry / Volunteers Needed After all Masses on the weekend of September 24 & 25, we will host an open house for parishioners interested in using our new child care services (age newborn through four years old) during the 9:00am and 11:00am Masses. Child care will also be provided from 10:00am to 11:00am for our PSR teachers and RCIA candidates. Please stop by the first floor of the Barrett after all Masses to see our facility and get information on the ministry. In order to provide this ministry, volunteers are needed. 8 Around the Diocese Lord, Teach Me To Pray at SCS Lord, Teach Me To Pray is a three-part prayer series for men and women based on Ignatian Spirituality. Part 1, Praying Christian Virtues, helps deepen prayer life, and discover what to do for dryness and obstacles in prayer. It also introduces the different methods of Ignatian prayer, meditation, contemplation and Consciousness Examen. Part 2, My 19th Annotation, the entire Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola will be available for those who have completed Part 1. Part 3, Discernment & Gifts of the Spirit, (14 week program) invites the group to pray with the Holy Spirit and St. Ignatius Rules for Discernment. Part 3 is available for those who have completed Parts 1 & 2. Groups of men and women will meet separately. Small groups will meet with 2 trained facilitators for 1 2 hours once a week to pray and faith share. Through video teaching, class discussions and interactive small group activities, FPU presents biblical, practical steps to get from where you are to where you ve dreamed you could be. FPU classes meet for around an hour and a half each week for nine weeks. FPU will show you how to get rid of debt, manage your money, spend and save wisely, all through a Catholic setting!
