Because it is creative, God s Word always points to its author, always calls us to respond. Because it is powerful, God s Word can link the sublime with the ridiculous, the transcendent with the immanent, the divine with the human. Because it is graceful, God s Word establishes a relationship of deep intimacy between us and God. At the heart of God s Word lies a tantalizing tension between the mysterious and the mundane. In our liturgical celebration, this unresolved tension both reveals the meaning of life for us and calls us to respond, to act upon that meaning. Once accepted and opened, the gift of God s Word is a gift that keeps on giving and keeps on calling us to give in return. It dares us to be like the gift-giver and to become gifts for others, not only at Christmas, but at every moment of life. Our Family Prayer Loving and faithful God, through the years the people of our archdiocese have appreciated the prayers and love of Our Lady of Prompt Succor in times of war, disaster, epidemic and illness. We come to you, Father, with Mary our Mother, and ask you to help us in the battle of today against violence, murder and racism. We implore you to give us your wisdom that we may build a community founded on the values of Jesus, which gives respect to the life and dignity of all people. Bless parents that they may form their children in faith. Bless and protect our youth that they may be peacemakers of our time. Give consolation to those who have lost loved ones through violence. Hear our prayer and give us the perseverance to be a voice for life and human dignity in our community. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Our Lady of Prompt Succor, hasten to help us. Supporting Status Contribution Deadline: December 29 Friday, December 29, is the deadline for contributions toward 2016 parishioner and school parent support. Parish office hours are 8:30 am-4:30 pm. The Archdiocese requires that families must contribute a minimum of $500 for one student and at least $700 for two or more children, in the regular collection, to receive supporting status and lower tuition. Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God The Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God will be celebrated on Sunday, January 1. Perpetual Adoration to Resume January 2 The Adoration Chapel will continue to be closed for perpetual Adoration for the Christmas Holiday until Monday, January 2, at 10 am. The Blessed Sacrament will be reposed in the Chapel for those who wish to adore privately during this time. The Chapel will be accessible using the keypad. 8 Around the Archdiocese Faiths of Our Neighbors: January 5 Unitarian Universalism will be the topic of the January interfaith evening of discovery and fellowship, Thursday, January 5, 7-8:30 pm, at Unitarian Universalist Community Church, 6690 Fleur de Lis Drive, Metairie. All are welcome to attend and to bring interested friends, relatives, and neighbors, to learn about various faiths. Sponsored by the East Jefferson Interfaith Clergy Association, these evenings take place on the first Thursday of the month. Our Lady of Prompt Succor Triduum and Mass of Thanksgiving: January 5-8 You are invited to join the Ursuline Sisters in celebrating the Solemnity of Our Lady of Prompt Succor, patroness of the city of New Orleans and of the state of Louisiana, in a Triduum of Spiritual Preparation, January 5-7, and the 202nd Annual Mass of Thanksgiving, January 8, at the National Votive Shrine of Our Lady of Prompt Succor, 2701 State Street, New Orleans. The mission of SAM is to help individuals, who suffer from the spiritual illness of addiction who are disconnected from self, loved ones, and God, to reconnect through education, prevention, referral, and family support. SAM will provide education awareness of the pain in people s lives; and will refer those in need to places where help can be found. Support, acceptance, understanding, and healing are extended to those touched by addiction.
