They did not listen to the prophets among them, who spoke for God in warning them. Prophets are sent from God to remind us why we are here, but they are often, even in our own time, mocked, disregarded, and mistreated rather than thanked and listened to. The book of Chronicles tells the results of these sins: the destruction of the temple and all of Jerusalem, murder, mayhem, and finally exile to a foreign land. Why are these stories in the Bible? Just to inform us of what happened to our ancient forebears? What good would that be unless there were a message and a warning for us as well? Are we people who follow the teachings of God, who obey the words of Christ in the second covenant in his blood? Or do we continue to wreak works of darkness and violence? We are reminded by these readings that we will be judged as a people, not just as individuals. Archdiocesan Family Prayer Loving and faithful God, through the years the people of our archdiocese have appreciated the prayers and love of Our Lady of Prompt Succor in times of war, disaster, epidemic and illness. We come to you, Father, with Mary our Mother, and ask you to help us in the battle of today against violence, murder and racism. We implore you to give us your wisdom that we may build a community founded on the values of Jesus, which gives respect to the life and dignity of all people. Bless parents that they may form their children in faith. Bless and protect our youth that they may be peacemakers of our time. Give consolation to those who have lost loved ones through violence. Hear our prayer and give us the perseverance to be a voice for life and human dignity in our community. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Our Lady of Prompt Succor, hasten to help us. Thank you for the many blessings that you have given us, but especially for calling us to serve as disciples of your son, Jesus Christ. As we gather today, we ask that you send your Holy Spirit to guide us in everything that we do. Transform our hearts and lead us closer to you. Help us always to seek to be a parish that is Centered on Christ and Ablaze with Love. We ask all of these things in the name of Jesus, and through the intercession of our Blessed Mother. The members and leadership of Boy Scout Troop 230 would like to extend a special Thank You! to everyone who contributed to their recent nonperishable food item collection drive. Troop 230 also would like to thank Canseco s Metairie Market and Langenstein s for their generous donation of grocery bags for the food items. The drive was very successful. 9 am Daily Mass in the Melancon Center The Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 9 am daily Masses are being offered in the Melancon Center. This is allowing those who are reinstalling the refurbished stained glass windows and protective outer layer of glass the maximum amount of time to work uninterrupted. The Wednesday 9 am School Mass will continue to be offered in church, as will the 6 pm daily Masses. Thank you for your flexibility during this temporary change. Second Daily Mass, and Stations, during Lent During Lent 6 pm Mass is offered in addition to 9 am Mass. We have Stations of the Cross at 2:45 pm and 6:30 pm on Fridays during Lent. Adoration Chapel Schedule Change: March 11 The Adoration Chapel will be closed on Sunday, March 11, from 10 am -8pm, due to the St. Patrick s Day parade. Catholic Relief Services Collection: March 11 This week, our parish will take up The Catholic Relief Services Collection (CRSC). Funds from this collection help provide food to the hungry and support to displaced refugees, and bring Christ s love and mercy to all people here at home and abroad. Please give generously to the CRSC, and help Jesus in disguise. Learn more about the collection at Rosary for Fr. Ronnie: March 12 During Lent, until and including March 26, the rosary prayed for Fr. Ronnie s healing will be at 5:30 pm. Please note the time change due to the 6 pm daily Mass during Lent. March 3-4, 2018 General Collection $19, Weekly Electronic Giving $6, Poor Box $1, Total Collection $26, Thank you for financially supporting the mission of St. Catherine Parish. We appreciate your generosity. 7% of the weekly collection is used for missionary outreach. Buy Tickets Now for March 17 Gala! Now is the time to go to and purchase your tickets to the Starry Night Gala and $10,000 raffle. This year s circus-themed event will take place on Saturday, March 17, 7 pm, in the St. Catherine school gym. Come and enjoy the evening, which will feature silent and live auctions, wonderful cuisine, cocktails, live music by ELS, and the $10,000 raffle. All St. Catherine of Siena parishioners and school families are invited to attend. Citywide Confession Nights: March 14, 21 All Catholics are invited in a special way during Lent to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation as the doors of all churches in the Archdiocese of New Orleans will be open for confessions from 5:00-6:30 pm on Wednesday, March 14, and Wednesday, March 21. Information about how to celebrate the sacrament and examine one s conscience can be found near the reconciliation rooms or by clicking on Reconciliation under the Sacraments tab at Summer Camp Registration Night: March 15 Registration night for SCS Summer Camp will be held Thursday, March 15, from 5-7 pm, in the cafeteria. Registration also can be turned in to the SCS parish office until Friday, May 11. Registration is limited to 250 campers, and priority will be given to campers who sign up for full sessions. Single week registration will be accepted starting April 1. For more information, visit summercamp. Lenten Fish Fry: March 16 The Knights of Columbus are sponsoring a fish fry on Friday, March 16, 5:00-7:30 pm, in the Cafeteria. The following will be served: fish, shrimp, and combo plates, $9 each; and soft shell crab, $12. Plates include two hushpuppies, French fries, and Italian salad. Pizza also will be served for $2 per slice. Take out is available. Drinks and desserts will be available for purchase. NO Sunday Evening Mass Due to Parade: March 11 There will be no 5:30 pm Mass on Sunday, March 11, due to the St. Patrick s Day parade. Parish Lenten Mission: March Mark your calendar to attend our parish s Lenten Mission, March 19-22, 7 pm, in the church. Fr. Kevin Mac- Donald, C.Ss.R. will speak on Beginning Today. Each evening of the mission will be different, but all will consist of a scripture reading, reflections, singing and praying together. It will be a grace-filled happening, an opportunity to experience in a special way God s saving presence. If you have abandoned the faith of your youth, the mission is for you. If you have been on-again, offagain in the practice of your Catholic religion, the mission is for you. If you have wondered what is going on in the Church today, the mission is for you. If you have been faithful to your Catholic faith, the mission is for you. If you feel you need to know more about how to pray, the mission is for you. If you judge yourself to be in need of spiritual growth, the mission is for you. If you are a sinner or a saint or somewhere in between, the mission is for you. The mission is for everyone, but especially for you. To make it easier for entire families to attend, there will be babysitting every evening. Centered on Christ, Ablaze with Love Wristbands Centered on Christ, Ablaze with Love wristbands are available in the narthex of the church, in response to the requests of many parishioners who needed replacements. Sago Palm Branches Needed by March 21 The Rosary Altar Society is in need of fresh, green, unblemished Sago palm branches for floral decorations in church. Please contact Donna Hummel, , or Tina D Antoni, , if you have some to donate. The Altar Society hopes to have a sufficient number of Sago palm branches by March 21. Due to the recent freezing temperatures, the parish has purchased Robellini palms to be blessed and distributed to parishioners on Palm Sunday. 3

Online Signup for 2018 Vacation Bible School Registration for K4J Vacation Bible School, June 4-8, is now open! Aftercare will be available for grades K-5 for an additional charge. Prayerful and Welcoming Environment For the past few months, the ushers have been roping off the last several pews in the two center sections of the church, the most recent among several changes enacted to foster a more welcoming and prayerful environment. This enables anyone who arrives after Mass has begun to enter a pew toward the rear of the church rather than having to proceed to the front and possibly distract other worshippers. Kindly do not move the ropes or sit in the roped off areas, as these pews are not reserved. The ushers will decrease the amount of roped off area as appropriate. Please see Fr. Ronnie or Fr. Tim if you have any questions. Sign Up to Receive Vocation Cross On the second Sunday of each month at all Masses, a vocation cross is given to a family or individual who makes a commitment to pray for vocations for a month. Those making this commitment agree to attend the Mass for which they signed up to accept the cross after the homily (a booklet with suggested prayers is provided), and to return the vocation cross and booklet to the church office on the Wednesday before the second Sunday of the following month.
