Like the eyewitness accounts in today s scriptures, the glorious and joyful life all around us helps us to believe the good news of the Resurrection and sing Alleluia! In the scriptures today we hear from Peter and Paul and John. All three speak with conviction about witnessing the resurrected Christ. John s Gospel account includes Mary of Magdala, who also was privileged to witness the Resurrection and tell others the good news. On this glorious Easter Sunday can we ourselves give eyewitness accounts that Jesus Christ is risen today, alive and active in our lives? Archdiocesan Family Prayer Loving and faithful God, through the years the people of our archdiocese have appreciated the prayers and love of Our Lady of Prompt Succor in times of war, disaster, epidemic and illness. We come to you, Father, with Mary our Mother, and ask you to help us in the battle of today against violence, murder and racism. We implore you to give us your wisdom that we may build a community founded on the values of Jesus, which gives respect to the life and dignity of all people. Bless parents that they may form their children in faith. Bless and protect our youth that they may be peacemakers of our time. Give consolation to those who have lost loved ones through violence. Hear our prayer and give us the perseverance to be a voice for life and human dignity in our community. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Our Lady of Prompt Succor, hasten to help us. Fellowship Sunday / Easter Egg Hunt: April 1 Please come to Fellowship Sunday on Easter Sunday, April 1, after the 9 am Mass. Divine Mercy Novena through April 7 Times for the Divine Mercy Novena, which began on Good Friday and takes place in the Reconciliation alcove, are as follows: Easter Sunday, April 1, 10:15 am (after the 9 am Mass); Monday-Friday, April 2-6, 9:30 am; and Saturday, April 7, 9 am. Return CRS Rice Bowl Funds: April 7-8 Thank you for participating in the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Rice Bowl program! Please bring your rice bowl to Mass next weekend, April 7-8. KC Quarterly Communion: April 8 The Knights of Columbus Council will hold their Quarterly Communion and Parish Social, next Sunday, April 8. Parishioners are invited to join the Knights in reciting the rosary in church, starting at 8:30 am. The Knights will worship at and serve in the 9 am Mass, then invite all parishioners to come over to the Melancon Center after Mass to share in pastries, coffee, and kid s drinks. Tim Hedrick, Parochial Vicar SVdP Monthly Food Collection: April 7-8 Please bring nonperishable food items to church next weekend, April 7 and 8, and place them in the collection bins in the narthex of the church. Though donations of all types of nonperishable foods are greatly appreciated and are distributed each week to those in need, high protein foods such as peanut butter and canned meat can be particularly helpful to those experiencing economic distress. Old Testament Prophets Study: April 12 The Prophets: Messengers of God s Mercy, a 10-week study, will begin on Thursday, April 12, 6:45-8:15 pm, in the Melancon Center. Ronnie Calkins has announced that he is stepping down as pastor of SCS and will take a new assignment as chaplain of St. Anthony s Gardens on the north shore. Archbishop Aymond has made the following pastoral assignments for St. Catherine of Siena Parish: Fr. Tim Hedrick, pastor, and Fr. Garrett O Brien, parochial vicar. 7 Parish News SCS Summer Camp Registration Summer camp registrations can be turned in to the SCS parish office until Friday, May 11. Registration is limited to 250 campers, and priority will be given to campers who sign up for full sessions. Single week registration will be accepted starting April 1. 8 Archdiocesan News Swinging Fore Champions Golf Tourney: April 5 The Catholic Foundation will host its first Swinging Fore Champions Golf Tournament benefitting the Champions of Catholic Education Fund, on Thursday, April 5, at Bayou Oaks at City Park s South Golf Course. The morning will begin with a sunrise service Mass at 7 am and a shotgun start to the tournament at 8:15 am. All proceeds will benefit the Champions of Catholic Education Fund, which provides need-based scholarship assistance to students attending Archdiocese of New Orleans schools. Please contact J.T. Young Women s Retreat: April 6-8 A retreat designed for women from their early 20s to early 40s is scheduled for Friday, April 6, through Sunday, April 8, at the New Orleans Archdiocese Retreat Center, 5500 St. Mary Street, Metairie.
