We listen to the story of the renewal of the old covenant, which Moses sealed by splashing the blood of animals on the altar of sacrifice, as well as on the people. Jesus, whose blood is the blood of the new covenant, shed that precious blood on the cross, saving us from sin and promising us everlasting life. Blood is the life source that courses through our bodies. The precious blood of Christ is the life source for our spirits. Today may we, like the psalmist, offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving to the Lord, whose Body and Blood strengthen us to bring the Good News to everyone we meet. Archdiocesan Family Prayer Loving and faithful God, through the years the people of our archdiocese have appreciated the prayers and love of Our Lady of Prompt Succor in times of war, disaster, epidemic and illness. We come to you, Father, with Mary our Mother, and ask you to help us in the battle of today against violence, murder and racism. We implore you to give us your wisdom that we may build a community founded on the values of Jesus, which gives respect to the life and dignity of all people. Bless parents that they may form their children in faith. Bless and protect our youth that they may be peacemakers of our time. Give consolation to those who have lost loved ones through violence. Hear our prayer and give us the perseverance to be a voice for life and human dignity in our community. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Our Lady of Prompt Succor, hasten to help us. Mother Henriette Delille, pray for us that we may be a holy family. Amen. St. Catherine of Siena Parish Prayer God, Our Father, we thank you for our parish community of St. Catherine of Siena. Thank you for the many blessings that you have given us, but especially for calling us to serve as disciples of your son, Jesus Christ. As we gather today, we ask that you send your Holy Spirit to guide us in everything that we do. Transform our hearts and lead us closer to you. Help us always to seek to be a parish that is Centered on Christ and Ablaze with Love. We ask all of these things in the name of Jesus, and through the intercession of our Blessed Mother. St. Catherine of Siena, pray for us! Memorials The Sanctuary Candles will burn In Memory of Raymond Radetich The Divine Mercy Candles will burn for the Healing of Fr. Deacon Andrew Gutierrez began his fivemonth diaconate internship at St. Catherine of Siena earlier this week. Andrew is 24 years old and was born and raised in Metairie. He attended elementary school at his home parish of St. Clement of Rome. During his time at Archbishop Rummel High School, Andrew experienced a conversion and grew stronger in his faith. Andrew first started hearing the call to the priesthood as a student at ARHS. After graduating in 2011, Andrew studied Psychology at LSU. After two years of LSU football games, developing great friendships, and being heavily involved at Christ the King Catholic Center, Andrew responded to God s call and entered seminary. Deacon Andrew was ordained a transitional deacon on May 19, 2018 in St. Louis Cathedral by Archbishop Aymond. Deacon Andrew is excited to begin his assignment at St. Catherine of Siena. His disconate internship will last from the end of May until the middle of October. Deacon Andrew will be introducing himself and preaching at all Masses this weekend. Fellowship Sunday on June 3 after 9 am Mass will be an opportunity for people to meet and visit with Deacon Andrew. THANK YOU! Thank you to everyone who made Fr. Ronnie s 40th Anniversary Mass so special, including the readers, the altar servers, the choir, the hospitality ministers, and the liturgy committee. Thank you to Stephanie Hellmers for writing a special song about Fr. Ronnie. Thank you to everyone who made the reception in the gym possible. It was truly a collective effort among the Men s Club, the Co-op, the Rosary Altar Society, and Knights of Columbus, and the Women s Club. Thank you to Mike and Brandi Cascio, owners of Fleur de Lis Event Rental, for donating all of the tables, chairs, and linens. Thank to Tina D Antoni for all of the decorations. Thank you to Norman Romagosa, who oversaw all of the planning for Fr. Ronnie s Mass and reception. I appreciate everyone working hard and working together to make it a huge success. The number one comment that came out of the coffees that Fr. Ronnie and Fr. Tim hosted when they first arrived was the need for Church and School unity. This weekend was a perfect example of how far the parish has come and how powerful it is when everyone works together to accomplish a common goal. The sky is the limit when we all unite for a common purpose! Please continue to pray for Fr. Ronnie during this time of transition to his new ministry at St. Anthony s Gardens. Fr. Prayerful and Welcoming Parishioners Please consider how one might express being Centered on Christ and Ablaze with Love as opportunities to practice the virtue of hospitality present themselves during the summer months. Individuals and families travel to visit relatives and friends or to study at a local university. They may be new residents or perhaps are considering moving to Old Metairie. Kindly inquire, May I help you? if someone appears to be looking for something or experiencing difficulty. Seemingly small acts of thoughtfulness can be profoundly impactful, particularly when extended toward guests, those who may be searching for a welcoming community, or any who feel distanced from the church for whatever reason.
