It was the elders of Israel who declared David king that day, but it was God who called David to shepherd Israel. Thus mandated by the citizens of his kingdom and by his God, David took his place in a long line of kings. The apostle Paul speaks to us of kingship as well, but on a much higher plane: the kingship of Jesus our Lord. As great as David was, he and all earthly monarchs who came before and after him in their kingdoms around the world are minor kings by comparison to the true King. And lastly, we hear the story of that true King in perhaps his weakest moment: near death, hanging on a cross, taunted by a common criminal and by the world at large. Our Family Prayer Loving and faithful God, through the years the people of our archdiocese have appreciated the prayers and love of Our Lady of Prompt Succor in times of war, disaster, epidemic and illness. We come to you, Father, with Mary our Mother, and ask you to help us in the battle of today against violence, murder and racism. We implore you to give us your wisdom that we may build a community founded on the values of Jesus, which gives respect to the life and dignity of all people. Bless parents that they may form their children in faith. Bless and protect our youth that they may be peacemakers of our time. Give consolation to those who have lost loved ones through violence. Hear our prayer and give us the perseverance to be a voice for life and human dignity in our community. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Our Lady of Prompt Succor, hasten to help us. The bishops realized that established charitable services alone were not creating the changes people needed to stay out of poverty. With a goal of creating sustainable systems, the bishops worked to address the policies and structures that perpetuate poverty. CCHD seeks to eliminate poverty by building solidarity in communities. Sale of Italian Cookie Gift Bags The Rosary Altar Society is selling gift bags of home made Italian cookies after the November weekend Masses to start the funding of our first St. Joseph's Altar. The donations for these delicacies is $6 a bag with all proceeds to be spent creating our St. Joseph's Altar in March. We thank you in advance for your support. Adoration Chapel Thanksgiving Schedule The Adoration Chapel will close for the Thanksgiving Holidays on Wednesday, November 23, at 9 am and will reopen on Monday, November 28, at 10 am. Although there will not be Eucharistic Adoration, the chapel will be accessible for prayer throughout the holidays using the keypad. Please join your parish family on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, November 24, for 10 am Mass as we give thanks for all the gifts we have received. Please note the change in Mass time from the normal 9 am time. Please bring non-perishable food items to help restock the St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank. These items will be brought forward at the Offertory. You are welcome to bring the bread and wine that you will serve at your Thanksgiving Meal for a special blessing at the end of Mass. This will be the only Mass on Thanksgiving Day. Recycling Training November 28 In January 2017, SCS will be starting a campus-wide recycling program. Join us on Monday, November 28 at 7 pm in the Melancon Center for a presentation/training for our recycling program. Joe Krafft will be the featured speakers at the annual Holy Spirit Women s Retreat from January 27-29, 2017, at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Lafayette, Louisiana. This year s theme is Receive the Holy Spirit. Michelle Moran lives in London and has a passion to bring the grace of baptism in the Spirit to people all over the world. She is highly acclaimed as an anointed minister of God s power in the charismatic gifts.
