2 Message From The Pastor Thirty First Sunday in Ordinary Time How is the new 6:00 PM Life Teen Going?? Well, I would like to share this we received from an out-of-town guest who attended our new Sunday evening Life Teen Mass this past Sunday. Dear Father Valenton: It was my pleasure to be in attendance at the 6 p.m. Mass last evening. I was down from San Leandro, Ca, visiting my daughter and her family. I was very pleased with the Liturgy, and the young people participating with such reverence. The young man who did the second reading was inspiring, being a lector myself for 35 years or more, I thought he was at the top of great lectors I've heard over the years. His proclamation was great on the volume, timing, pauses and shear delivery. Paul is not always that easy to read because the sentences go on forever...and to deliver it with such conviction and meaning was great! Last week I suffered a black out at home, (I live by myself, my wife died 5 years ago) I was at the emergency room undergoing all kinds of tests and they concluded it was a medication that caused it. But I received the sacrament of healing and that was a great blessing for me also. I would like to close with your homily; it was great in content and delivery, good for young and old alike! Blessings to you and the parish family. Did I forget the music, they also are great! My deepest gratitude to the many people who have dedicated themselves to this effort! P.S. Next Sunday, I have invited Msgr. Ted Bretagni & Fr. Brian O Rourke from Cross International Catholic Outreach to preach at all of our Sunday Masses. They will share with us their mission of delivering food, shelter, and hope to the poorest of the poor. P.S.S. I will be enjoying the the cities of Venice, Padua, Assisi, Florence, Pisa, and Rome, The Eternal City. I will carry with me all of you along this spiritual journey of faith and renewal. Fr. Matt, Pastor Weekly Stewardship Report Everything that God has given to us is intended to serve the divine plan. Therefore, our life is to be lived in gratitude toward God. Mark your calendars! Father Thierry will celebrate Mass in French on Sunday, October 30 at 5:00 PM at St. Thomas Aquinas Church. All parishioners welcomed and encouraged to attend. Our parish has many members who speak French, and it is a blessing to have Fr. Thierry be able to share the mass in French. The Team 2nd Collection See St. Vincent de Paul Knights of Columbus Drive On the weekends of October 29-30th and November 5-6th, Palo Alto Council 2677 of the Knights of Columbus will be holding their annual fund raising drive to benefit people with intellectual disabilities. In Palo Alto, all the funds collected go to Achieve Kids and Abilities United (former C.A.R.) right here in Palo Alto. Members will be outside our churches with their yellow cans and aprons after mass on one of the above weekends. Please help them by making a generous contribution to this worthy cause. Companies wishing to contribute to our drive are asked to contact the fundraiser chairman at (650) for further information. St. Vincent de Paul We are repeating this request for help. Some of the Artists Homeless and living in poverty is a miserable situation for anyone to endure. If, in addition one has poor health the misery is compounded. Our St. Vincent de Paul Conference encounters these situations regularly: Henry came to us in pain and walking with a great deal of difficulty. He had been in a motorcycle accident. He is scheduled to have a spinal fusion and two hip replacements. He is homeless and has been sleeping outside. We gave him a motel voucher so he could sleep in a bed & obtain some relieve for his pain. Martha is suffering from the pain of severe rheumatoid arthritis. She needed help purchasing her prescriptions for percocet & clonopin. Our St. Vincent de Paul Conference provided her with the funds. Consider how you would feel if you were in the excruciating pain these people experience under such difficult conditions. The St. Vincent de Paul collection will be October 30. Please think of people like Henry and Martha and contribute generously to the collections basket when it comes around. It will be the second collection Sunday.
