2 What Else Could I Do? Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time John 6:34 - They said to him, Sir, give us this bread always. Does this sound familiar? It should. Two chapters earlier, Jesus sat at a well in a Samaritan city called Sychar, and received this request: John 4:15 - The woman said to him, Sir, give me this water, so that I may never be thirsty Did Jesus ever get tired of people making requests of him? Yes, probably, which is why he invites his disciples: Mark 6:31 - He said to them, Come away, to a deserted place, all by yourselves, and rest a while. Even last week, we heard that after the feeding of the 5,000 men (What? And where were the women?): John 6:15 - When Jesus realized that they were about to come and take him by force to make him king, he withdrew again to the mountain by himself. Saving the world is a tiring business, I guess! Even for the Son of God! Or maybe it s merely his human part that got tired. Well, I can testify that many of my human parts get tired! And I haven t tried to save the world! I just come and sing at Mass I just come, and sing, and pray, at Mass, and drive home, and wonder, to my self? to my God?; Is this enough? Do you want me to do more? Am I able to do more? I often go home on Sunday afternoon, and take a two-hour nap, before I have lunch, because I m so tired from just singing and praying at Mass! Maybe if I had fully functioning kidney, I d be feeling better. I know it would help! (Anyone know of a potential A-Negative donor with a kidney to spare?) Yes, I pray for that, and believe that God will prepare the right donor at the right time, but I hope He s considering that my time, is much shorter than His! But what else could I do? What more could each of us do to save the world? We can save the planet, or at least a very small part of it, each day, in our own way, but what about the Salvation of the World? Or did Jesus finish doing that, and there s nothing else left for us to do? I can t accept that. There must be something more I guess I ll go to Mass, and sing, and pray,... Summer Series Starts Tomorrow - August 6 MARY: A BIBLICAL WALK WITH THE BLESSED MOTHER with Edward Sri, renowned teacher and biblical scholar All are invited to join us for a Summer video series in the Hall at Our Lady of Rosary each Monday in August (Aug. 6, 13, 20, & 27) from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Who is Mary? How do we see her and experience her? How do we understand her role in the? How is she a model of discipleship for each of us? Walk with Mary through the stages of her life with scenes of the places she lived and experienced in the Holy Land. This event provides an opportunity to sign up for faith formation for all ages. Leaders will be available to answer questions. Pastoral Center Garden Weeding Party - August 25 On Saturday, July 21, we chatted, cut, weeded and raked at the Pastoral Center Garden behind the Pastoral Center at 3290 Middlefield Road. We had so much fun we re going to do it again on Saturday, August 25! Many thanks to Arlen Hagen for creating the Pastoral Center Garden and all his years of dedicated support to it. After our more general cleanup session in August we plan to invite a Master Gardener to our September session to review pruning procedures. All are welcome! Is The RCIA For You? Faith Formation Begins Soon! STA KIDS FAITH FORMATION BEGINS SOON! REGISTER NOW for next year s classes (including preparation for reception of the sacraments)! Our official kick-off pancake breakfast won t happen until August 19, but don t wait!! Our first session is on August 26, which will be here before you know it! Registration forms are available in the vestibule at all churches and on-line ( All who are registered prior to the Pancake Breakfast will receive a prize!! (I now have twenty-one winners thus far. Looking to make it a whole lot more!) Become A Catechist Summer is passing quickly, and our Faith Formation sessions will begin sooner than we expect (first session is August 26). We need catechists to help form our children in their faith. In particular, we are needing help with our youngest children (Pre-K and Kindergarten) at both Our Lady of the Rosary and St. Albert the Great. Top three reasons to consider doing this: 3 - You ll be saving lives. 2 - You ll be putting your own faith into action. 1 - IT S THE RIGHT THING TO DO!! Our kids need you!
