2 The Feast of the Pentecost To Our Newly Confirmed: Welcome to the START Dear Youth, The leadership team and I wish to congratulate you for making it this far in your faith journey as a Catholic! All of your effort toward growing in wisdom, knowledge and relationship with Christ has led this very special moment of our life the day of your Confirmation. In receiving this Sacrament, you have been sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit, receiving special strength and graces that will allow Christ to use you in tremendous new ways if you only allow Him to do so. From this point onwards you are declared a fully initiated Catholic in the eyes of the Church so now what? Well my brothers and sisters, I can only simply respond to that question with welcome to the start. God now sends you forth to share your gifts and talents with the world to build up the Kingdom on Earth! It all begins right here, right now. You are no longer the future of our Church you are the now of the Church more specifically, our community! Think about the many active ministries that need your involvement including, but not limited to: altar serving, lecturing, St. Vincent de Paul ministry and more! Pray about where the Lord is leading you next, and most importantly, be not afraid to say yes. As youth minister, I look forward to helping you continue to grow in faith, community and service as you now transition to St. Thomas Aquinas Life Teen, our faith community for high school teens. Matt s Silver Anniversary Mass at St. Albert the Great Church. Reception to follow. Amoris Laetitia - the Joy of Love 5. There are many Catholics who are divorced and civilly remarried, struggling to try to do things right and bring up their children in the Church. What does AL offer them? AL offers them the guarantee that the Church and her ministers care about them and their concrete situation. AL wants them to feel and to know that they are part of the Church. They are not excommunicated. (AL 243) Even if they cannot yet fully participate in the Church s sacramental life, they are encouraged to take active part in the life of the community. A key concept of AL is integration. Pastors need to do everything possible to help people in these situations to be included in the life of the community. Anyone in a so-called irregular situation should get special attention. Helping heal the wounds of parents and supporting them spiritually is also beneficial for children, who need the familiar face of the Church to see them through this traumatic experience. (AL 246) Feast of Corpus Christi Beginning at 6pm on May 28 through 8am on May 29, we will continue our tradition of an all-night adoration of the Blessed Sacrament at St. Albert the Great Church. It would be a wonderful time of grace if you could spend at least one hour with our Lord on this great feast of the Body and Blood of Christ. Finance Advisory Council Seeks New Members The Finance Advisory Council (FAC) is a consultative body to the pastor. It has the mission and duty of being good stewards overseeing and advising the Pastor in regards to the treasure entrusted to him on behalf of us all. It meets once per month. We are currently looking for a few new members. The basic qualifications are: 1) Registered and active member of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish; 2) A willingness to make recommendations for the good of the community without recourse to any special interest group; 3) One who has demonstrated the ability to work well within a group. Please submit a brief letter to Fr. Matt (mstanley@dsj.org). Deadline is June 30, More Ways To Communicate Although the Sunday Bulletin remains an important source of our parish communications, we also provide two other excellent sources of timely information: our parish website at org (available 24 hours a day!), and our weekly Friday morning ebulletin. The ebulletin is an initiative of our parish Communications Board, whose ministry it is to improve communications in our parish. It is sent to 411 parish families each Friday. Not just a copy of the Sunday paper bulletin, it includes reminders and more articles and notices than can fit in our Sunday bulletin. If you are interested in receiving the ebulletin on a weekly basis, send an request to clundin@stanford.edu. You will be added to "PaloAltoCatholic-EBulletin@googlegroups.com" which is used to send out the ebulletin each Friday morning.

ILM - Institute for Leadership in Ministry The Institute for Leadership in Ministry is a 3 year course of study for lay persons. The ILM provides training and faith formation for lay leaders in the Church. The theological base for this program is found in the documents of the Second Vatican Council. Graduates return to their parish to serve in various leadership roles in Liturgy, Catechetics, Social Justice, Pastoral Care, and many others. We plan to continue sending lay persons to the Institute for Leadership in Ministry. If you feel called, we are looking for a few qualified candidates for the new ILM academic year in the fall. The 7 Tasks of Healthy Aging - June 4 Explore the universal challenges and spiritual potential of healthy aging at a workshop on Saturday, June 4, 8:30am 12:30pm at St. Albert the Great Hospitality Center, 1095 Channing Avenue, Palo Alto. The workshop presenter is Suzanne M. Young, MA. Suzanne M. Young has a Masters degree in Transpersonal Psychology and has taught in both Catholic and public schools, directed parish religious education programs and taught courses for St. Mary's College. Seven important tasks are identified by Allan B. Chinen in his book of elder tales, In the Ever After. The workshop will guide participants to find out what happens when we complete or avoid these tasks. Scriptural texts will be referenced for each of the seven tasks. Sponsored by the Thomas Merton Center of Palo Alto, the workshop is free of charge, but pre-registration is requested as space is limited.
