2 Love Is The Word Sixth Sunday of Easter If you love me, said Jesus, You will keep my commandments and I will ask the Father to give you another Advocate, the Holy Spirit. The teachings of Christ can be summarized with one word and that word is love. We are called not to rationalize this love with our brains and genius minds but to understand and live it according to the dictates of our hearts. Love becomes pragmatic, reduced to a tool that satisfies our needs if we let it remain in the level of our heads. Some people show love (for God and neighbors) because of a need, because it s practical, because it is convenient, because it will save their future, or because they get something out of it! That is not the love that Jesus wanted us to keep and to live with. Love should go from the level of our heads sinking down to where our hearts reside. Where is our heart located? Can you please feel if your heart is still beating, just to know you re still alive. Where is it located?- at the very center of our body. That reminds us that the center of our lives should be love, and should also be God. The teachings of Jesus about love are difficult (love your enemies; pray for those who persecute you; give your other cheek if they slap you) and he knows that! That is why he asked the Father to send us the Holy Spirit to guide us, to inspire us and to strengthen us. So when we feel it is difficult to love, let us pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Sacraments of Initiation Next Weekend Fr. Michael Gazzingan, Parochial Vicar Next Saturday at the 5pm Mass at St. Albert the Great we will celebrate the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation and First Eucharist for Dean Bowker and Furhawn Shah. Please keep these men and their sponsors in your prayers as they prepare for this joyful celebration. Want to Become a Catholic? Thinking about becoming Catholic or receiving the Sacraments of First Eucharist or Confirmation? Do you have an interest in becoming Catholic? Were you baptized as a child but have not received the Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation? Our adult inquiry sessions continue all year long. St. Vincent de Paul Collection - Next Sunday! The goal of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is to offer tangible assistance to those in need on a person to person basis and to offer spiritual services. A key strength of the Society is in the personalized delivery of help. This aid may take the form of intervention, consultation or often through direct dollar or in-kind service. St. Vincent de Paul has thousands of volunteers all over the world, including St. Thomas Aquinas Parish. Your generosity in this Sunday s 2nd collection will assist our own local conference of St. Vincent de Paul to help our neighbors in need. Parish Communication Although the Sunday Bulletin remains an important source of our parish communications, we also provide two other excellent sources of timely information: our parish website at (available 24 hours a day!), and our weekly Friday morning ebulletin. It is sent to over 430 parish families each Friday. Not just a copy of the Sunday paper bulletin, it includes reminders and more articles and notices than can fit in our Sunday bulletin. If you are interested in receiving the ebulletin on a weekly basis, send an request to clundin@stanford.edu. You will be added to "PaloAltoCatholic-EBulletin@googlegroups.com" which is used to send out the ebulletin each Friday morning. Institute for Leadership in Ministry (ILM) The Institute for Leadership in Ministry is a 3-year course of study for lay persons. The ILM provides training and faith formation for lay leaders in the Church. The theological base for this program is found in the documents of the Second Vatican Council. Responding to their baptismal call, graduates return to their parish to serve in various leadership roles in Liturgy, Catechetics, Social Justice, Pastoral Care, as well as many others. We plan to continue sending lay persons to the Institute for Leadership in Ministry. If you feel called to explore this possibility, we are looking for a few qualified candidates for the new ILM academic year which begins in the fall. Please contact Fr. Matt (mstanley@dsj.org) for more information. Save the Dates in July & August Sing God s Praises! Dance for Joy! Walk with Paul in Ancient Rome! A summer camp for children ages 5 through 13 will be offered July 31 through August 4th and August 7th through 11th from 9 a.m. to Noon in the Hall at Our Lady of the Rosary. Participants will learn about St. Paul and the early Christian Church in Rome through music, dance, drama and art. Children may attend one or both weeks. The cost for this camp is $50 per week per child. Registration forms are available in the vestibules and on our parish website If you would like to help or have questions about this camp, contact Susan at suolsen@dsj.org.
