2 Twenty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time Spirituality Tuesday s Fall Program The Mission of our Adult Spiritual Development Committee is: To plan, organize and implement opportunities for the St. Thomas Aquinas Parish Community to deepen and grow their awareness, experience and gratitude toward God while complementing our existing spiritual formation activities plus bring us closer together as community through shared experience. The Church's catechetical mission aims to help the faithful of all ages to grow in both human and Christian maturity, enriching the whole of life with the leaven of the Gospel. Our parish adult faith formation ministry seeks to engage the particular needs and interests of our parishioners in a way that is accessible and relates to their life experiences, helping them to form a Christian conscience and to live their lives in the world as faithful disciples of Jesus. The Committee has been hard a work all summer putting together this year s program of speakers and sessions. Every May we survey the parish as to which topics they would be interested in attending in the upcoming year. Those, at the time of Jesus, who knew the Bible, understood what the Son of Man meant. Nevertheless, he posits this question to help them understand that there is something else that needs to be known and discerned, above and beyond of what His bodily appearance showed them. The Lord always wants to lead people into the mystery of faith. Nowadays, our vision about things may be blurred by mere appearance. Sometimes it is hard to see beyond what we see with our eyes. We don't always perceive the core of things. We may fall into the tendency of judging people by how they look, express themselves, or what they do for a living but not see that which is in their hearts. The same may happen with our Lord Jesus Christ. We may say: he was a good man, but not the Son of the living God the Messiah, the Redeemer, the Second Person of the Holy Trinity. When the eyes of our soul achieve the ability to give the response of Peter, the Lord will bless us with special graces, just as He did with Peter. It would be nice if we started by going beyond the appearance, to see that which is beneath the surface. We may begin with our family members, our relatives, with our co-workers; hopefully we then become detached from our initial judgment and see we the eyes of our soul. It may be very nice to see what we discover. Fr. Stanley Faith Formation for Children & Teens Register Now As your Pastor, I want to encourage all parents and guardians to make plans for your children s ongoing faith formation, as our own programs commence. Your parish stands ready to help you. Over the summer, both Susan Olsen (Director of Catechetical Ministry) and Chris Mardesich (Director of Youth Ministry) have been hard at work preparing for this new year of learning and living our Catholic faith. We have programs for children in pre-school through high school. Our vision of faith formation is structured to engage children and youth in a process that is engaging, challenging, and fun. Fr. Matt Help Form the Next Generation of Priests Marking its first decade as a successful fundraiser toward the education of future priests, St. Patrick s Seminary & University Gala will take place on the school s Menlo Park campus September 9th. The evening Under the Stars honors Dolores Meehan and Eva Muntean, founders of the Walk for Life West Coast. A silent auction and raffle featuring a first prize of a 2017 Lexus automobile or $25,000 cash are evening highlights. The gala has been known to welcome more than 500 guests and raise more than $200,000 for the seminary. Tickets are $250 per person, $1,800 for a table for eight.
