2 Second Sunday in Ordinary Time What Mary Taught Us at Cana In today s Gospel during the wedding at Cana, Jesus gives great honor to His mother Mary (John 2:1-11). Jesus reveals His divine power by His first miracle, transforming water into wine. When the wine ran short, Jesus Mother pointed out the problem to Him. He hadn't performed any miracles yet or given any teachings. Still, Mary took the servant's worries of having no wine to her Son anyway. Here, Mary teaches us that God only needs us to put our problems in His hands and trust in Him. At first Jesus seemed to refuse to do anything about it. But later He told the servants to fill six large stone jars with water and take some of the miraculous water-made-wine to the headwaiter. Mary shows us how to approach the Lord with complete trust. The Church uses the account of this miracle to remind us that, by her position as the Mother of God and our Heavenly Mother, Mary s intercession for us with God has great power. She wants nothing more than to point us back to Jesus and His will. So, may we ask Mary, our spiritual Mother, to intercede for us, with whom we can share our joys and sorrows. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Deacon Daniel Hernandez Pastoral Home Ministry Available Jesus has a special compassion for the sick and suffering. He wants us to look out for them. Deacon Dominick Peloso will review several appearances of the Blessed Virgin Mary in various countries and going back hundreds of years. She has regularly come to assist us to both grow in holiness and overcome the spiritual problems of various ages. She also gives us warnings of things to come and how to avoid them. Tragically, most of the time the world does not listen just as we did not listen to her warnings about the coming World War II that she gave at Fatima. We will be encouraged not only to hear what she says but to listen and follow her advice. 7:00-8:30pm in the Hospitality Center at St. Albert the Great. St. Vincent de Paul Collection - Next Sunday Your generous donations to the work of your St. Vincent de Paul Conference have made a difference to many people these past months. We also help people who come to our parish door with daily food and grocery cards, and always a listening ear and prayer. By your generosity on January 26 & 27 you can continue to help more families. You are also very welcome to come and see our work at the Pastoral Center on Mondays and Wednesdays. Please join us in our prayerful work. Knights Looking for Donations for Silent Auction Our Knights of Columbus Council asks parishioners for donations of new or gently used items or services (carwashing, wine tast ing party, progressive dinner, babysitting, etc) for the auction table at their February 9th, 2019 Crab Dinner Dance. Please call Jerry Lucha (650) to discuss your idea or drop off items at the Pastoral Center. Please SAVE THE DATE: February 9. Tickets must be purchased in advance and members of our Knights will be selling tickets after the Masses on January 19-20, January and February 2-3. Bethlehem Artworks Here Next Week - January If you missed getting any articles last January, the Bethlehem Artworks will return next weekend. Beautiful hand-made olive wood religious articles made by Catholic families in Bethlehem and Jerusalem will be on sale next weekend, January 26-27, after most Masses. Please stop by their tables and take a look at our beautiful handmade rosaries, statues, crosses and nativities. They will make a wonderful present for family and friends. The religious articles are made by the suffering Christian families in the Holy-Land, and are their means of spreading the word of Jesus, a goal that began two thousand years ago. The number of Christians in the Holy Land has dropped within the last ten years. Crafting the religious articles is the primary means for providing for the livelihood of Christian families in the Holy Land. Bethlehem Artworks is a non-profit organization that provides assistance to over 100 plus suffering families each week.
