2 Epiphany The Epiphany of the Lord We all know that Epiphany means 'manifestation'. The Second Person of the Holy Trinity, the Word made flesh, makes himself manifest to the world. He makes Himself manifest to those who come from abroad and travel to meet him. Those who in their life make the journey of faith leaving everything behind to meet Jesus and adore Him. Jesus guided them with His light, the Star of Bethlehem. The three Magi obeyed, trusted and followed Jesus' light. The journey of faith has to be informed by an unconditional obedience and trust in God. In the same way that the Angel announced to the Blessed Virgin Mary that she was going to be the Mother of God. She did not question, she did not ask for scientific proof. She just expressed her condition 'I am a virgin' and stated her intention 'I want to remain a Virgin'; so 'how is it going to happen?' As soon as the Angel explained, her faith made Her ready to saying an unconditional Yes to the most difficult job ever accepted in the history of mankind: being the Mother of God, the Mother of Jesus. Her Yes changed our existence by giving us the opportunity to participate in Jesus' plan of Salvation for us. We 'manifest' our Faith when we say Yes to God, 'Yes' to follow His will without questioning nor rationalizing our response. Yes, to 'whatever you want God', like Mary did. Yes to making our journey from a life far away from His grace to being surrounded by his light and grace as the Magi did. Happy Epiphany, Happy New Year Rev. Mikalonis Epiphany Proclamation My sisters and brothers, the glory of the Lord Jesus has been made manifest and will continue to be revealed in our midst until he comes again. In the rhythms and alternations of time, let us recall and live the mysteries of our salvation. Central to the entire liturgical year is our celebration of the TRIDUUM OF THE LORD, crucified, died and risen, which culminates on EASTER SUNDAY, the 27th of March. Every SUNDAY, when we recall this Paschal Mystery, holy Church makes present this great event in which Christ has conquered sin and death. From Easter derive all our other celebrations: ASH WEDNESDAY, the beginning of the season of Lent, the 10th of February; the ASCENSION OF THE LORD, the 8th of May, PENTECOST, the 15th of May; and the FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT, the 27th of November. Likewise, in the feasts of the holy Mother of God, of the apostles and saints, and in the commemoration of all the faithful departed, the Church, in her pilgrimage here on earth, proclaims the Paschal Mystery of the Lord. To Christ who is, who was, and who is to come, the Lord of all time and history: be endless praise now and forever! Amen. Commissioning Liturgical Ministers - January 10th Next weekend, on the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, we will commission for another year those who seek to serve the community - to be present to the community in a special way - as liturgical ministers: Ministers of Hospitality, Lectors, Ministers of Music, Extraordinary Ministers of Communion, Ministers of Environment & Art and of Altar & Linen Care. Let us both recognize the special role these people play in contributing to our experience of worship at St. Thomas Aquinas and, if we are not among them, assess our own call to serve the community in some way. Widows & Widowers Dinner The W (Wild Bunch) Widows and Widowers will dine in the back room at Harry's Hofbrau in Redwood City on January 14th, the second Thursday of the month. Hospitality Time from 5:00 and Dinner from 5:30 'til 7:30. Need a ride? Call Roland at For reservations, Helen Short at helen5576@att.net Day of Reflection on Social Justice Join us for our tenth annual Day of Reflection on Social Justice on Saturday, February 20, Fumi Tosu, M.Div, leader of the Catholic Worker House in San Jose, will be our keynote speaker.
