2 Thirty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time A Grateful Heart... makes a happier heart. As we approach the Thanksgiving Holidays, I wanted to express my gratitude as pastor to all of you. I usually say at the end of Mass that I grow and learn a lot from you and that it's already a big reason for me to be grateful. But there is much more - your commitment and support to the parish in so many different ways is amazing. You are all God's blessing. Sometimes in our lives we may have the tendency to focus on the negative things that happen around us. Many of them even inside the and that saddens our hearts and makes our lives bitter. Please let's never forget that God continues to pour out His blessings upon us all the time. If we are grateful to Him we will be able to perceive how much he loves and our hearts will sing of joy. Thank you for all you do. May your hearts be filled with God's joy in these lovely days of Thanksgiving. Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! (Ps 107,1). Rev. Estanislao Mikalonis, Pastor Saint Elizabeth Seton School Lighting Project There are many upgrades/repairs needed in our parish. Our most immediate priority are our children from the Saint Elizabeth Seaton School. This school run by the Daughters of Charity is at our Saint Albert the Great site. It provides education to kids mostly from East Palo Alto. Over the years the Daughters of Charity have done a great job in keeping up with the property, renovations and even building new sections. The next project in cooperation with our parish is to upgrade the entire school s lighting system so that the kids may have better light and also save money on energy bills. It will be a joint 50/50 effort with the school. The project will initially cost $58,000. We would like to extend the invitation to participate in this project by any kind of donation you may want to offer. The parish is expected to contribute with $29,000/30,000. If this speaks to you please make a donation payable to the parish with a memo note of "SESS lighting" and we will share reports about the progress of this project that will take place during this next Winter Break. Gazzingan Adoration Continues on Wednesday Evenings Wednesdays at St. Thomas Aquinas : Adoration and Benediction In support of offering more opportunities for personal prayer, our parish has been keeping St. Thomas Aquinas (751 Waverley Street, Palo Alto) open until 5:00 p.m. In addition to that, each Wednesday, the parish is going to offer Adoration and Benediction from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., before closing the church for the night, beginning Wednesday, November 7. You are encouraged to stop by to pray and adore Our Lord. Spirituality Tuesday-No Session During Thanksgiving Week The next Spirituality Tuesday Assembly will be November 27th. Its subject will be "Science and Religion" with Ted Baer. Have a happy Thanksgiving and we'll see you the week after that. Thanksgiving Day Mass Thanksgiving Day, November 22nd, is the one authentic American religious feast. How better for us to honor this day than to gather as a faith community for the celebration of the Eucharist at 9:30am at Our Lady of the Rosary. Our collection, for our St. Vincent de Paul Conference, will continue to assist families in our area who have little money left over for groceries after paying rent, utility, and medical bills. We invite you to bring bread for your dinner tables to that liturgy for a blessing. This will be the only Mass on Thanksgiving Day. Sacrament of Confirmation Next Sunday Next Sunday at the 10:30am Mass at Our Lady of the Rosary we will celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation. Another opportunity for adults to prepare for the sacrament of Confirmation will be offered during the Easter Season, Please contact Susan Olsen. Advent Morning of Reflection - December 1 Saturday, December 1, 9:00 a.m.-12 noon: Advent Morning of Reflection, led by Fr. Kevin Ballard, S.J., at Our Lady of the Rosary Hall, 3233 Cowper St.Bring yourself into the spirit of Advent and spiritual clarity with Fr. Ballard, who will guide us to contemplate the joy of the Gospels by drawing us into the Advent Scriptures and deepening our awareness of the call to holiness in the season. Take time to listen, meditate, and share the insights that arise. This is an informal, supportive environment, sure to be leavened by Fr. Ballard's unique humor and accessible interpretations. Fr. Ballard is in residence at the Sacred Heart Jesuit Center in Los Gatos as a chaplain and celebrates the 8:45 Sunday Mass at STA church monthly. He also gives retreats at the Jesuit Retreat Center of Los Altos (El Retiro San Inigo) and is a spiritual director for those following the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius.

4 November 18, 2018 Weekly Stewardship Report The Weekly Stewardship Report is delayed due to the Veterans Day Holiday Pastoral Home Ministry - What Is It? Jesus has a special compassion for the sick and suffering. He wants us to look out for them. If you are ill or homebound, or in a retirement home or a care facility or if you know a parishioner who needs pastoral care, please contact the Pastoral Home Ministry. We will visit them, bring them Holy Communion and, if needed, offer them the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick by one of our priests. We are excited that the youth of our parish STAY program will be helping distribute bags for your generous donations. The more food donated the less food we need to purchase. Particularly needed: Pop-top cans of chili or protein soup, Pop-top cans of tuna or chicken. Please grab a donation bag from the displays in each of our church vestibules during the month of November and bring it back filled. Faith Formation Conference Nov 29-Dec 1 Registration is Open for the Santa Clara Faith Formation Conference on Nov Dec. 1, 8am - 5:15pm at the Santa Clara Marriott and Santa Clara Convention Center. Check out to register. Space is filling up fast. One change is there will be no billing for on-site registration. The Book of the Names of the Dead You are invited to inscribe the names of your departed family members and loved ones in the book near the Easter Candle. These people will be remembered in the prayers of our parish community during November.
