4 AROUND THE PARISH AROUND THE PARISH SACRED HEART LEISURE CLUB Next meeting January 9th, 12 to 3pm Our club meets from 11:00am to 3:00pm in the lower church hall every other Wednesday. We provide a comfortable atmosphere where seniors can greet and meet one another. If you are not a member of the club, please feel free to come down and see what we do and who we are. A $3 entrance fee entitles you to coffee or tea and a Danish pastry. Games such as Pokeno, scrabble, poker, and bingo are played. Come by yourself or bring a friend. All are welcome! For more information, call Sister Kathleen at NEW MOTHER S CLUB Monday morning from 10am to 12 noon. & Friday mornings from 10am to 12 noon. The Sacred Heart Parish New Mother s Club is for parents (includes grandparents & sitters) and their young children. No Dues, No Registration is necessary. On Fridays, Ms. Patricia LaProvidenza will lead the group on Friday mornings. Both groups use an easily accessible classroom in the school. The room has toys and books. Our goal is to create a relaxing environment for both parents and children to meet with one another. We then meet twice a week through June except when the school is closed. All are invited to come to one or both sessions. Info., call Mrs. Lyons at SPECIAL NEEDS PARENTS GROUP We invite parents/guardians with children/adults with all special needs or IEP s to join us to share and exchange ideas in an informal setting. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 9th at 10am Future meeting dates are February 13th, March 7th, April 2nd, May 8th & June 6th. Meetings are held in Sacred Heart Religious Education Office located in the school building. For info., please contact Mrs. Georgette Lyons at FAMILY MASS The next Family Mass will be held on February 3rd, at 9:30 Mass. At the Baptism Ceremony parents are reminded that they are the first teachers of their children, teaching them in all things especially their faith. One of the best ways to do this is to attend Mass together as a family. We celebrate Family Mass monthly at Sacred Heart. Readings from the children s liturgies are used. Children s Choir -Sacred Heart has a Parish Children s Choir which performs at our Family Masses. All children that sing are welcome to join. Choir practice is held on the Thursday before the Family Mass at 3:30pm in the school. ARISE EVALUATION MEETING All who were a part of the Arise faith sharing groups are invited to attend an evaluation meeting to be held in the church hall on January 22, 2019 at 7:30pm. Please feel free to attend even if you did not make all the Arise sessions. We want to explore other options for small group sharing and would appreciate your feedback.

5 CHILDREN'S LITURGY OF THE WORD The next CLOW Mass will be held on January 13th at 9:30 Mass. What is CLOW? During Mass, after the opening prayer, children Pre-K through 6th grade, are invited to go to the church hall to hear the readings of the day proclaimed and explained in age appropriate language. The children rejoin their families during the preparation of the gifts at the offertory. Younger children are often accompanied by their parents. A GIVING TREE THANK YOU In the name of each child who received the gift of Christmas through the generosity of our Parish SECRET SANTAS, thank you For your generous support of the GIVING TREE. A very special thank you goes to Nancy Tognan who is responsible for the computerization of the Giving Tree. It is a wonderful system that tracks the gifts from the moment they are requested until they are packaged for distribution. We now can easily ascertain any missing gifts and address the situation so that all requests are filled. We would like to thank those who helped d by sorting, wrapping, packing, loading and transporting gifts. A Special Thank You to Nancy and Lou Tognan who were present for the collection of the gifts. Also to Troop 49 and their leaders for their dedication to this project. We also would like to thank the Girl Scouts who cut out and to thank the Girl Scouts who cut out and pasted labels on the tags and decorated the labels on the tags and decorated the trees. My Eagle Scout project Mercy Services, PA. consisted of building Toiletry Kits that would help benefit Queen of the Most Holy Rosary the children at St. Joseph s School for the Deaf. In order St. Rita to raise money for my project, I came to the very Star of the Sea generous Sacred Heart community in April. With your St. Lucy/St. Patrick generosity and the help of family and friends I was able to raise $1,500 dollars. All excess money that was left over from the Toiletry Kits was donated to the school. GOD BLESS ALL THOSE Words cannot express the amount of gratitude I have for WHO P PARTICIPATED IN OUR this community and the people in it. Once again, Than You so much and I wish everyone a GIVING TREE PROGRAM Happy New Year.

6 PLANNING A FUNERAL LITURGY It's not uncommon for people to make prearrangements with funeral homes regarding their burial options. But have you ever thought about going a little further in your pre-planning? What about planning a funeral liturgy? Believe it or not, there have been a number of requests to do just that. So, the opportunity to learn how to plan a funeral mass and then to plan your own funeral liturgy is here. THE ADVANTAGE: You can communicate to your loved ones your preferences the scripture readings, hymns, and prayers that YOU WANT that best capture your particular beliefs. You can identify preferences for pall bearers, offertory gift bearers, scripture readers, and who it is you want to offer a eulogy. Preparing your funeral liturgy in advance can relieve your family of tremendous pressure at a time of intense emotional pain. On your part, it becomes a final gesture of love and concern offered to family and friends. If interested, please call Sister Kathleen at so that materials can be prepared. When? Your feedback and input regarding the program is of utmost importance. Thank you for all you do to make this parish a caring community. If you cannot attend the meeting, please call Sister Kathleen at SPECIAL THANKS to the family and friends of Rose Loguercio. Rose was a member of cooking team A and passed away this past September. In her memory $1800 has been donated to the Mealson-Wheels program. Through this most generous gift, Rose s spirit continues to nourish others. Please cut or tear the Box Top Logo off the product. It does not have to be trimmed neatly, just be sure that you don t cut off the expiration date or product acronym. Leave your Box tops in the box at the main entrance to the church. 7 Religious Education Classes are held on Saturday at 9:20am Our program is for children in public or private schools. The Diocese requires two years of religious instruction to receive the sacrament of communion. This program is for children first thru eight grade, older children and special needs children.
