3 FROM THE PASTOR S DESK Item One: A new set of Advent Candles were purchased for use in the Advent Wreath in our church. In the past, real wax candles were used. The new set are cylinders which are in the traditional colors- 3 purple and one rose- and are made of durable nylon which are hallow and into which an oil canister is inserted. These are cleaner in that there is no wax dripping down the side and onto the table (and the ladies that volunteer to do our church linens will love it since they will not have to struggle to remove the wax from the cloth) and as the weeks pass, the wreath does begin to dry out (even though the ladies do a great job trying to keep it moist). The Advent Candles are available to be given as a gift or in memory of a beloved deceased one for $200 each. If you are interested in giving one of the candles as a gift or in memory of someone please see Msgr. Tom. Item Two: Please make sure you return your Christmas Novena envelopes with the names of those you would like remembered during our Novena by December 23 so that we can prepare them to place near the altar. Christmas Novena envelopes are in your envelope packet and extra envelopes for this purpose are available in the back of the church and at the side entrance. Item Three: Please take home an Advent Calendar to help you in your prayerful preparation in this holy season. Calendars are located in the back of the Church and at the side entrance. Item Four: 2019 MASS BOOK Our 2019 mass book is open, if you would like to arrange for announced masses, please come in to the rectory office. For info., call Sister Kathleen at SACRED HEART LEISURE CLUB Next meeting Dec., to 3pm Our club meets from 11:00am to 3:00pm in the lower church hall every other Wednesday. We provide a comfortable atmosphere where seniors can greet and meet one another. If you are not a member of the club, please feel free to come down and see what we do and who we are. A $3 entrance fee entitles you to coffee or tea and a Danish pastry. Games such as Pokeno, scrabble, poker, and bingo are played. Come by yourself or bring a friend. All are welcome! For more information, call Sister Kathleen at BAMBINELLI SUNDAY Blessing of the Christ Child Saturday, Dec., 15th & Sunday, Dec., 16th at all masses. For the past several decades, each year on Gaudete Sunday, the Third Sunday of Advent, children and adults bring their Baby Jesus figures from the crib at their homes to St. Peter s Square where the Pope blesses both the people and the figurines during the Angelus. All are invited to bring the Baby Jesus figure from their homes to mass on Dec. 15th & Dec. 16th to be blessed. Let this be the first gift your family opens on Christmas, when together you place your Baby Jesus figure in the crib, and have a home blessing of the Nativity for your whole family. WREATH PICK UP Thank you to all who purchased Christmas Wreaths from our Cub Scout Pack 49. The Christmas Wreaths will be distributed after all masses Dec., 1st & 2nd in the church hall. Thank You, Thank you to everyone who participated in our Blood Drive on Nov., 25th. It was a great success 90 pints of blood were donated which saves over 300 lives. A special thank you to Msgr. Machalski, Sr. Kathleeen and Owen. To those who volunteered at the drive we appreciate your time and kindness.

5 GIVING TREE Our Giving Trees are set up in church. If a specific item is requested and you can not locate it, a gift card can be substituted. Gift cards should not exceed $ It is very important that you tape the giving Tree tag to the outside of the package so that the gift is delivered to the correct location and person. We receive over 650 gifts so you can see the importance of the tags. It is fine to donate new unused items but on the outside of the package please note that it is an extra gift and a description of the gift. ALL WRAPPED GIFTS MUST BE RETURNED BY SUNDAY, DEC. 9TH AT THE 5PM MASS Advent Prayer Service December 16, PM Taizé Prayer is a quiet, simple way of prayer designed for people of all Christian traditions. This meditative candlelit service will include simple chants sung repeatedly, rich silence and prayers of praise and intercession. It's the perfect way to lift up your concerns and calm your soul during the Advent season. Save the date! Treat yourself to an early Christmas gift and invite a friend. NEW MOTHER S CLUB Monday morning from 10am to 12 noon. & Friday mornings from 10am to 12 noon. The Sacred Heart Parish New Mother s Club is for parents (includes grandparents & sitters) and their young children. No Dues, No Registration is necessary. On Fridays, Ms. Patricia LaProvidenza will lead the group on Friday mornings. Both groups use an easily accessible classroom in the school. The room has toys and books. Our goal is to create a relaxing environment for both parents and children to meet with one another. We then meet twice a week through June except when the school is closed. All are invited to come to one or both sessions. Info., call Mrs. Lyons at SPECIAL NEEDS PARENTS GROUP We invite parents/guardians with children/adults with all special needs or IEP s to join us to share and exchange ideas in an informal setting. 6 FAMILY MASS The next Family Mass will be held on January 6th at 9:30 Mass. At the Baptism Ceremony parents are reminded that they are the first teachers of their children, teaching them in all things especially their faith. One of the best ways to do this is to attend Mass together as a family. We celebrate Family Mass monthly at Sacred Heart. Readings from the children s liturgies are used. Children s Choir -Sacred Heart has a Parish Children s Choir which performs at our Family Masses. All children that sing are welcome to join. Choir practice is held on the Thursday before the Family Mass at 3:30pm in the school. CHILDRENS LITURGY OF THE WORD The next CLOW Mass will be held on Dec., 16th at 9:30 Mass. What is CLOW? During Mass, after the opening prayer, children Pre-K through 6th grade, are invited to go to the church hall to hear the readings of the day proclaimed and explained in age appropriate language. The children rejoin their families during the preparation of the gifts at the offertory. Younger children are often accompanied by their parents. For information, call Sr. Kathleen at The CLOW Mass schedule for January 13th, February 24th, March 17th, April 14th, May 12th & June 16th. REGISTRATION is ongoing for Religious Education Classes. CLASSES are held on SATURDAY at 9:20am. Our program is for children in public or private schools. The Diocese requires two years of religious instruction to receive the sacrament of communion. This program is for children first thru eight grade, older children and special needs children. Please cut or tear the Box Top Logo off the product. It does not have to be trimmed neatly, just be sure that you don t cut off the expiration date or product acronym. Leave your Box tops in the box at the main entrance to the church.
