3 March 17th, 2019 The Second Sunday in Lent Parish Community News & Events Thank you to the Holy Name Society for their generous donation of $1000 to Saint Josaphat s Church. We appreciate how hard your members worked to raise that money for our church. Saint Joseph s Day Table You are invited to bring bread and pastry to be blessed in honor of Saint Joseph on March 19th after the 8am Mass and the 7:30pm Devotions. Father Saffron will be on television with Ed Wilkinson s On the Block show discussing St. Josaphat s, Thursday, March 28th at 9pm and repeated on Friday at 6pm. NET TV. Channels, Verizon 48, Spectrum 97, Optimum 30. Donation... The Paschal Candle which will be blessed at the Easter Vigil is available to be donated or given in memory of a deceased loved one. The cost of the candle is $450. The candle burns throughout the Easter Season (50 days) and is lit at every funeral and baptism. If you are interested in donating/memorializing the Paschal candle, please see Fr. Saffron or call the Rectory at The Our Lady of Perpetual Help Candle located in the Baptistery in the vestibule of the Church is available to be memorialized in memory of a loved one. 5 Munera: Teach, Govern, and Sanctify. The month of March finds us celebrating two great saints: St. Joseph the foster-father of Our Lord, Guardian of Mary and St. Patrick the great missionary to Ireland. Both Saints Joseph and Patrick have influenced not only our faith but our culture too and both are truly worthy of the honor we give them. As we enjoy our Irish Soda Bread and St. Joseph s Pastries may we keep in mind the one thing both saints had in common; a total dedication to Jesus Christ. Celebrating St. Patrick s Day and St. Joseph s Day can truly help us keep and renew our Lenten discipline and focus on Jesus Christ. Both saints feasts days have become great occasions for family and friends to get together and celebrate faith, heritage and good food; enjoy these day! Mental Illness and the opioids crisis our society is suffering from are two topics that are not always talked about or get the attention they need. Michael Gray will be offering talks/ reflections on the life of his daughter Amanda and how a life story marked with illness became the source of a new found faith. The talks will also focus on the life of Venerable Anthony Vincent Gallo and his intercession. These talks will be given at 7:00 PM before the Friday evening Stations of the Cross on March 22, 29, and April 5. I hope these evenings will be for us an inspiration on how we might be like the saints we honor this month and put our faith in action.
