3 FROM THE PASTOR S DESK Item One: 2018 marks the 140 th Anniversary of the founding of Sacred Heart of Jesus parish. I have requested that one of the Bishops join us on a Sunday in the Fall to offer a Mass of Thanksgiving as we thank God for His many blessings on our parish throughout these 140 years. The Parish Pastoral Council and I have also discussed preliminary plans to have a dinner-dance to celebrate this special occasion. Stay tuned for updates! Item Two: The annual Diocesan MASS OF HOPE AND HEALING sponsored by the Diocesan Survivors Advisory Committee, will take place on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, 7pm at the parish of Saint Nicholas of Tolentine (Located at Goethals Avenue, Jamaica N. Y. ) The main celebrant will be the Most Rev., Nicholas DiMarzio, Bishop of Brooklyn. All are invited to gather on this day, to pray for healing for all those who have been impacted by childhood sexual abuse. 4 CHILDRENS LITURGY OF THE WORD The next CLOW Mass will be held on April 22nd, at 9:30am mass What is CLOW? During mass, after the opening prayer, children Pre-K through 6th grade, are invited to go to the church hall to hear the readings of the day proclaimed and explained in age appropriate language. The children rejoin their families during the preparation of the gifts at the offertory. Younger children are often accompanied by their parents. If you have any questions regarding CLOW, please call Sr. Kathleen Masterson at CLOW Mass Schedule: May 20 & June 10. FAMILY MASS The next Family Mass will be held on May 6th, at 9:30am. At the Baptism Ceremony parents are reminded that they are the first teachers of their children, teaching them in all things especially their faith. One of the best ways to do this is to attend Mass together as a family. We celebrate Family Mass monthly at Sacred Heart. Readings from the children s liturgies are used. Children s Choir -Sacred Heart has a Parish Children s Choir which performs at our Family Masses. All children are welcome to join. Choir practice is held on the Thursday before the Family Mass at 3:30pm in the school. For information, please call Mrs. Lyons, Director of Religious Education at Family Mass Schedule: May 13, & June 3. NEW MOMS CLUB Our Group meets on Mondays at 10am and Fridays at 10am. Sacred Heart Parish has a New Mother s Club for parents (includes grandparents & sitters) and their young children. No Dues, No Registration necessary. You can join any time during the school year. Ms. Patricia LaProvidenza will be available at the Friday sessions ready to guide your children so they can interact and socialize with other children through various activities. Please enter main door school on 38th Ave. For info please call Mrs. Lyons at SPECIAL NEEDS PARENTS GROUP MEETING We invite parents /guardians with children/adults with all special needs or IEP s to join us on Monday, April 23rd at 7:30pm in the Sacred Heart Academy Library located at th Avenue, Bayside. This is a group of parents/guardians who share and exchange ideas in an informal setting. Friday, April 20th Mother s Club members will be selling Grand Prize Raffle Tickets outside of church on April 14th & 15th after masses. Please support the Mother s Club and purchase a raffle ticket. This is the biggest fundraiser of the year and by purchasing a ticket you are supporting Sacred Heart Academy. Attention: Every School Family that purchases a grand prize raffle ticket will get a dress down for their children.

5 AGING-WELL SERIES Learning to Talk the Talk: ARISE INVITE We have completed our 4 th session of the Arise in Christ program. There is one more 6-week segment left that will be held in the fall. In order to best evaluate the program itself and the effects it has had on parish life, there will be a meeting of ALL PARTICIPANTS on Monday, May 7 th at 7:30 in the church hall. After the meeting, we will serve some light refreshments. Please feel free to bring whatever snack/s you might like to share with the group. ROSARY ALTAR SOCIETY The Rosary Altar Society would like to thank all who participated in the Spring Raffle. Becoming An Honorary Nurse April 17, :00-8:00pm Presenter:: Patricia Brown, RN Join us for this FAMILY EDUCATION FORUM to help us look realistically and creatively at the challenges of aging, our own or another s. This particular presentation will focus on communicating successfully with the professionals involved in providing care to you or someone you love. Self-study tips to support informed decision-making and advocacy will be shared. If you are concerned about your own aging or the aging of loved ones, this on-going series will benefit you. Whether you are preparing for your own aging wellness, or caring for someone at home, or responsible for overseeing the care of someone living in an assisted living or nursing home environment, these presentations will help to provide you with the practical advice and resources necessary to accessing appropriate clinical and community care and support. There are a number of Eucharist ministers who take the eucharist to homebound parishioners who cannot attend mass. For them and for our nursing home visitors this monthly meeting is an opportunity to pray and stay connected with others who minister in the same way. Our next meeting will be May 15 th at 1PM in the rectory. If someone you know is homebound and can no longer attend mass, the Eucharist can be brought to them.
