5 Munera: Teach, Govern, and Sanctify. Laudetur Iesus Christus! Looking, searching, seeking, studying, and finding are the themes we think of when we celebrate the Epiphany. Learned men of old studied the starts and saw a message in the skies. What struck them to follow the star they saw? Was it really a star or some other cosmic event in the skies? Something happened and they traveled distances to follow the star. We always say Three Kings because the Gospels tell us of the three gifts they offered but, there could have been more; possibly twelve because of the Twelve Tribes. These Wise Men followed a star to expect what? They found the Son of the one who created the stars! Out of all the lights in the sky the Three Kings followed one and found Jesus. The star, you can say, was the God s signature in the sky as He came to touch the earth and our hearts. Our lives are filled with looking, searching, seeking, and study events. You are never too old not be a student and learn something. Sadly, many seek and follow but do not find Jesus. Some who know our Lord already by baptism have seen other lights and distractions which have led them away. May we use our faith as an anchor for all we look for, for all we search, for all we seek, in all we study, so that we may be seen as a star to those around us who are lost and or seeking Jesus? Before the harshness of the winter storms and deep cold keeps us indoors maybe go out now and buy a good book from a Catholic source so that when you can t get out you can spend some time in study and intellectual renewal at home. As a side note let us pray for Eastern Catholics and Orthodox who will be celebrating the Nativity of Our Lord on January 7 th ; Julian Calendar Christmas. Merry Christmas and Happy Epiphany, Rev.
