3 FROM THE PASTOR S DESK Item One: 2018 marks the 140 th Anniversary of the founding of Sacred Heart of Jesus parish. I have requested that one of the Bishops join us on a Sunday in the Fall to offer a Mass of Thanksgiving as we thank God for His many blessings on our parish throughout these 140 years. The Parish Pastoral Council and I have also discussed preliminary plans to have a dinner-dance to celebrate this special occasion. Stay tuned for updates! 4 AROUND THE PARISH CHILDRENS LITURGY OF THE WORD The next CLOW Mass will be held on April 22nd, at 9:30am mass What is CLOW? During mass, after the opening prayer, children Pre-K through 6th grade, are invited to go to the church hall to hear the readings of the day proclaimed and explained in age appropriate language. The children rejoin their families during the preparation of the gifts at the offertory. Younger children are often accompanied by their parents. Lucas SACRED HEART ACADEMY MOTHER S CLUB FAMILY MASS The next Family Mass will be held on April 15th, at 9:30am. At the Baptism Ceremony parents are reminded that they are the first teachers of their children, teaching them in all things especially their faith. One of the best ways to do this is to attend Mass together as a family. We celebrate Family Mass monthly at Sacred Heart. Readings from the children s liturgies are used. Children s Choir -Sacred Heart has a Parish Children s Choir which performs at our Family Masses. All children are welcome to join. Choir practice is held on the Thursday before the Family Mass at 3:30pm in the school. The Mother s Club will be presenting the Ladies Night Out Comedy Gala aka The Fashion Show. Friday, April 20th In advance of the event they will be selling Grand Prize Raffle Tickets outside of church on The weekend of April 7th & 8th and April 14th & 15th. Please support the Mother s Club and purchase a raffle ticket. This is the biggest fundraiser of the year and by purchasing a ticket you are supporting the Sacred Heart Academy. Attention: School Families Every family that purchases a grand prize raffle ticket will get a dress down for their children.

5 AROUND THE PARISH NEW MOMS CLUB Our Group meets on Mondays at 10am and Fridays at 10am. Sacred Heart Parish has a New Mother s Club for parents (includes grandparents & sitters) and their young children. No Dues, No Registration necessary. You can join any time during the school year. Ms. Patricia LaProvidenza will be available at the Friday sessions ready to guide your children so they can interact and socialize with other children through various activities. The Diocese requires two years of religious instruction to receive the sacrament of communion. This program is for children first thru eight grade, older children and special needs children. The registration form is available at the parish website at The LOUNGE Thursday s afterschool from 3pm to 5pm Takes place in the rectory basement. Primarily for Middle School students. Students can play games, do homework, eat snacks, and do various art projects in a safe space. The SESSION Sunday Nights from 6:30pm to 8pm Takes place in the rectory basement. Primarily for High-School students. At the session students see videos, have discussions, play music. 6 YEAR OF VOCATIONS Sacred Heart Catholic Academy News We are in the process of collecting baskets for our annual fundraising Gala. If you own a business and would like to donate something for our raffle, please call the school and we will arrange pick up. If you have any extra baskets taking up space in your closets, we are in need of them as well. You can help our school by supporting our Yankee Candle Sale. Visit the website and enter our school s group number in the Start Shopping box. Register as a seller and you are all set. There are over 500 items for sale online. We are also selling a Money calendar for the month of April. The cost of each entry is $20.00 and you get 31 chances to win. Each day we will pick another winner of $25.00, on certain weekends the prize is $50.00 and on April 15 th -tax day- the prize is $200.00! As they say, you have got to be in it to win it! If interested, please call the school and we will get you your calendar. Children from the Academy participated in the Installation Mass for Msgr. Tom last Saturday. Eight of the children presented gifts of bread and flowers to each of the four Bishops, several brought up the gifts, and of course members of our junior choir sang. It was an honor to be part of such a special celebration. In an effort to encourage the young to consider a vocation as a priest or Religious Sister or Brother, the bishop asks us to participate in the Called by Name Program. If you know a boy or girl, young man or woman, who you think would make a good priest or Religious, the bishop asks you to submit their name so they might be personally invited to consider a church vocation. Just fill out a Called by Name Card available at the doors of the church - and drop it off at the rectory. Names will be submitted to the diocesan Vocation Directors and the individual will be contacted by them.
