3 FROM THE PASTOR S DESK ITEM ONE: DEACON EUGENE WOHLFARTH Some bittersweet news. Deacon Eugene Wohlfarth will be leaving us in July. He and his wife Brenda will be relocating to Texas to begin a new career and be closer to their children. We will miss Deacon Gene and Brenda and wish them all the best in this new life-adventure. Please save the date: Sunday July 16 TH for a Mass of Thanksgiving and Farewell at 12:30pm followed by a reception in the Church Hall. Please be generous. SPECIAL COLLECTION There will be a second collection taken at all Masses next weekend (June 24 TH 25 TH ) in support of the Peter s Pence Collection. This collection is taken worldwide to support the most disadvantaged: victims of war, oppression and disasters. 4 The Bread & Wine for this week s liturgies are offered in memory of James P. Curran (Family) BEREAVEMENT GROUP Our Bereavement group will not meet in July or August. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 5th at 7:30pm in the church hall. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month. Info., call Sr. Kathleen Masterson at Sacred Heart Justice & Peace Committee RICE BOWLS The rice bowls that were distributed at the beginning of Lent have been returned and all the pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters and bills have been counted. A check in the amount of $1, has been sent to Catholic Relief Services. Thank you for your support of this organization and your generosity. SACRED HEART SENIOR LEISURE CLUB Next Meeting, July 12th, 11:30 to 3:00 We re inviting all women and men who are seniors to turn off the TV and put down the paper and come join your neighbors, reunite with old friends or meet new ones while enjoying some social time in a convivial atmosphere. Play board games, BINGO or just enjoy neighborly conversation. Pastries and hot coffee/ tea available. We have a great 50/50 raffle. Admission is $3 at the door and dues of $10 collected yearly. The Leisure Club meets every other Wednesday. FAMILY MASS At the Baptism Ceremony parents are reminded that they are the first teachers of their children, teaching them in all things especially their faith. One of the best ways to do this is to attend Mass together as a family. At Sacred Heart each month we have two special Masses for families. We celebrate Family Mass and Children s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW). At both liturgies the children s readings are used. Our Parish Children s Choir, performs at Family Mass. All children are welcome to join. Choir practice is held on the Thursday before the Family Mass at 3:30pm in the school. For information, please call Mrs. Lyons, Director of Religious Education at Masses will resume in the fall. CHILDRENS LITURGY OF THE WORD Sometimes, moreover, if the place itself and the nature of the community permit, it will be appropriate to celebrate the Liturgy of the Word, including a homily, with the children in a separate, but not too distant room. Then, before the Eucharistic Liturgy begins, the children are led to the place where the adults have meanwhile celebrated their own liturgy of the word. What is CLOW? During mass, after the opening prayer, children Pre-K through 6th grade, are invited to go to the church hall to hear the readings of the day proclaimed and explained in age appropriate language. The children rejoin their families during the preparation of the gifts at the offertory. Younger children are often accompanied by their parents. If you have any questions regarding CLOW, please call Sr. Kathleen Masterson at Masses will resume in the fall. NEW MOMS Sacred Heart has a New Mother s Club for parents and their preschoolers. 5 AGING-WELL Series #3 Living with Alzheimer s Disease: Caring Strategies Tuesday, June 20 th 7:00-8:00PM Sacred Heart Church Hall Presenter: Barbara Speedling, Join us for the third in a series of presentations that have been recommended by Barbara Speedling, a quality management consultant to long term care facilities. Our first meeting with Barbara was held in March. It was met with great enthusiasm. The topics that have been selected for the series are a direct result of the input received from those in attendance. So, if you are concerned about your own aging or the aging of loved ones, this on-going series will benefit you. Whether you are preparing for your own aging wellness, or caring for someone at home, or responsible for overseeing the care of someone living in an assisted living or nursing home environment, these presentations will help to provide you with the practical advice and resources necessary to accessing appropriate clinical and community care and support. If you have any questions, please call YOUTH GROUP MEETINGS Our Youth Minister, Brandon Morel would like to engage our teens who have now received their confirmation and integrate them into the life of the parish. We have a youth group meeting for 7th & 8th graders after-school on Thursdays from 3pm to 5pm. If you are leaving 6th grade and entering the 7th grade in the fall you are also welcome to attend these meetings. Join our High School Youth group. Meetings are held on Sunday nights from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. With pizza, games, video, and discussions we continue in growing a community of faith amongst our young people.
