5 Munera: Teach, Govern, and Sanctify Praised Be Jesus Christ! It is that time of year Spring Cleaning time! Last week while walking back to the parish house from the train station I noticed on a lawn crocuses starting to push-up from the cold soil. Spring is here and so are some spring-time projects. Last week the gutters and downspouts were cleaned and the leaves from last autumn have been removed from all our buildings, a new exterior vent cover was placed over a bathroom vent on the rectory; the old one rusted off during the winter, and the water sprinklers for the lawn and grounds have been turned on along with a minor repair being made. I mentioned last Sunday during my announcements that in the days ahead a fire door will be installed in the rectory boiler room. I am also getting estimates to replace the two exterior doors of the church which go down to the basement. One of the doors is very difficult to open and close properly and must be addressed! Speaking of doors I have asked some of the men from the parish to help me in making sure we have proper weather stripping on the doors of the Parish Hall this too will be done in the weeks to come along with some repair work done to the ramp on the side of the church. These same volunteers helped make pillows bags filled insulation to fit into the vent areas of the fans in the Parish Hall during the winter to keep the building warmer. I am thankful for their help! Last autumn repairs were made to the boiler of the church due to ground water issues which was causing water to splash all over the boiler. I had written about this back in October or November but at the time we did not know that the issue was caused by ground water. All of these repairs and projects which help make our building better serves as a reminder to us that during this Lent we are called to make sure we make the spiritual repairs needed for our souls. Please make sure you read the bulletin and make your Easter Duty by going to Confession. Reconciliation Monday is an easy day to do so when most church in Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan will be open from 3pm 8/9pm for Confession. Don t miss out on the opportunity to confess your sins. Lastly, thank you to our parishioners who marched in the Bayside St. Patrick s Parade. Also, please be mindful that next Sunday we enter into what is traditionally called Passiontide, the last two weeks of Lent which call us deeper into the Passion of Our Lord. Rev. Fr. Stephen A.
