(2019 March6th April 21st) Marriages: Reserve and register date & time as soon as possible, at least six months in advance of the wedding. Pre-Cana and other instructional sessions are required for all couples. Ministry to the Sick: Sick calls and Communion calls on the First Friday of the month. Please call the Rectory.

Reconciliation Monday for Advent- Cardinal Dolan designated Monday, December 17, 2018 as Reconciliation Monday for Advent. All parishes in the archdiocese will have priests available to hear confessions from 4:00 PM - 8:00PM. This includes all the parishes of the Arch diocese of New York, as well as the parishes of the Diocese of Brooklyn and the Diocese of Rockville Center. Here at Saint Josaphat s a priest will be available from 4PM 8PM in the Church.

3 December 9th, 2018 Second Sunday of Advent Parish Community News & Events Thank you to Steve De Ieso and all the volunteers that worked our November Flea Market. $1217 has been donated to our church. Thank you also to all the volunteers that worked selling Polish meat & bakery products and the kitchen staff. Flea Market today. Stop in. Volunteers Needed for Church Christmas Decorating Please lend a hand in decorating our church for Christmas. Sat., Dec. 22nd, 2018 at 11AM All volunteers are welcome and appreciated. On December 11th the Catholic Charismatic Renewal will be celebrating with Mariachis the vesper of Our Lady Of Guadalupe Feast Day. Starting with outdoors procession at 7:30pm Bilingual Holy Mass will be celebrated at 8:00pm. Delicious Tamales and Mariachis music will follow in the church s basement. All are welcome to join in this celebration. St Josaphat's Right to Life Committee is sponsoring its Baby Shower for Life this year from December 1st to December 16th on behalf of Bright Dawn Ministry. Sr. Dorothy Rothar, who founded Bright Dawn Ministry, provides sidewalk counseling outside abortion clinics, such as Choices in Jamaica, Queens. Thanks to your donations and gifts received from other parishes, Sr. Dorothy is able to organize a monthly baby shower at The Immaculate Conception Center in Douglaston to provide the brave women who chose life much needed supplies to care for their new baby. The Baptism of the baby is also arranged by Sr. Dorothy. Please place your gifts of baby clothes for girls and boys, diapers and other baby items in the Carriage of Love placed by the side altar with the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Monetary donations can be made by dropping off checks payable to Sr. Dorothy Rothar, CSJ in the Pennies for Life donation box in the back of the church. Oplatki / Christmas Wafers The Oplatki are large rectangular wafers, which are embossed with figures of the Christ Child, or other nativity scenes. Christmas Novena of Masses All the Masses on Christmas Day will be offered for the intentions of the Parishioners of St. Josaphat s. Envelopes for this Novena are in your monthly packets. The campaign experienced tremendous success and we raised $307,820. To date, 157,525 has been collected. Remember, over 50% of the funds collected will be returned to the parish! 5 MUNERA: TEACH, GOVERN, AND SANCTIFY Laudetur Iesus Christus! The Governing part of my responsibilities has not been something that I have written about as of yet. However, there are a few things which need to be mentioned. On the Sunday November 25 th the boiler in the church went down! Since August on several occasions a pipe in the boiler room, under the sacristy, has opened-up and filled the boiler room with as much as six inches of water. The splashing of the water has caused some corrosion to the operating board of the boiler; over-all the entire boiler is fine! But some pieces had to be replaced and in order for this to be done a service contract had to be made! We are still not sure where all of this water is coming from and are looking into this. It does not seem to be from the boiler it s self and seems to be rain water even though on one occasion it had not rained and water was coming from this pipe. Again we are looking into what is causing this problem and this is why there has been not heat in the church for several days and why the bathrooms where closed a few Sundays ago; the water was shut off. Also a stronger pump has been put into the well in the boiler room to help remove water in the future along with hose work to reduce splashing. Boilers and anything to do with them run up a bill, as you all know. Without having the receipts and bills in front of me the estimated amount of money spent recently on this issue has been just under $ and this was just for the work done two weeks ago. I am always grateful for your sacrificial giving it takes a lot to maintain and fix! If anyone wants to see the boiler room and the work which has been done, I ll gladly take you down stairs. This coming Tuesday we will celebrate a Vigil Mass and Procession for the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The Mass will be in both English and Spanish and this event will be a good way to bring many of us together around our Blessed Mother to honor her on such a great feast. I would also like to thank those of you who have been getting up early to pray and honor our Blessed Mother during the Rorate Masses. Please do not take hymnals home, they belong to the parish!
