3 October 7th, 2018 Twenty-seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time Parish Community News & Events Tuesday Evening Devotions: Beginning on Tuesday, October 2nd, 2018 we will have Tuesday Evening Devotions. The first Tuesday of the month will be the St. Padre Pio Devotion at 7pm followed by Mass at 8pm. The following Tuesdays will be the St. Jude Novena & Seasonal Devotions. 7pm Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. 7:30 pm -Devotion with Benediction Please join us for these prayerful Tuesday evenings. In honor of the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi the Blessing of Animals will take place Sunday, October 7th after the 12:00 noon Mass. All those who would like to have their animals blessed are asked to meet in front of the St. Francis Statue on 210th Street outside of the Church. To celebrate the month of the Holy Rosary, October. Fr. Saffron will pray the Rosary each evening at 7:00 in the Rectory Garden (behind the Hall). On nights when he cannot be there, the faithful are invited to come and pray. On Tuesday evenings the Rosary will be prayed in Church. All are welcome to pray with us. Saint Josaphat s Flea Market-Sun., Oct. 7th. from 9AM-4PM. Light breakfast and lunch will be available. Parish Community News & Events The Parish Right to Life Committee is organizing a Remembrance and Healing for Cancer for the month of October. We will once again present Our Blessed Mother with a floral bouquet in honor of cancer survivors or those who are receiving treatment and in memory of loved ones who lost their battle with cancer. There are marked envelopes available around the Church to make your donation of at least $5.00. Your donations, in the name of your loved one(s) will help fund the work of Helpers of God's Precious Infants, who assist expectant mothers and fathers to choose the gift of life, and the Dominican Sisters of Hawthorne, who care for individuals with incurable cancer. 5 Munera: Teach, Govern, and Sanctify. Laudetur Iesus Christus! Life is full of changes, surprises, and unexpected turns. This weekend marks a new outreach of ministry for our parish in our starting to offer both forms of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass; the Ordinary Form which came out after the Second Vatican Council and the Extraordinary Form (Tridentine Mass) in Latin which was the norm of celebrating Mass for centuries before Vatican II. For three years I have heard talk of a parish in Queens to be set up to offer the Extraordinary From of the Mass. I was totally surprised to be the priest assigned to that parish. I know that all of this came as a surprise to our parishioners too! Among the parishioners are a variety of feelings and concerns over all of this and, yes it did happen very fast. Over the years there has been a growth in people wishing to worship and celebrate the sacraments in the traditional forms; most especially among the youth. There are several new orders of religious who are dedicated to living monastic life according to the older form; and they are growing too! All of this led to Pope Benedict XVI writing Summorum Pontificum where he writes "Immediately after the Second Vatican Council it was presumed that requests for the use of the 1962 Missal would be limited to the older generation which had grown up with it, but in the meantime it has clearly been demonstrated that young persons too have discovered this liturgical form, felt its attraction and found in it a form of encounter with the Mystery of the Most Holy Eucharist, particularly suited to them." As we welcome our brothers and sisters who have worshiped at St. John's Cemetery Chapel, which is no longer available to them, we should take comfort that what we are doing here has been done in many other churches and is working well! You may which to read Summorum Pontificum which can be found on the internet and check our some parish where this is all being done: St, Mary Roman Catholic Church in Norwalk, CT. and St. John Cantius Church in Chicago, IL. both have web pages.
