Baptisms: Please call the rectory to arrange the celebration of Baptism. Baptisms ordinarily should not take place during Lent except in case of emergency. (2019 March6th April 21st) Marriages: Reserve and register date & time as soon as possible, at least six months in advance of the wedding. Pre-Cana and other instructional sessions are required for all couples. Ministry to the Sick: Sick calls and Communion calls on the First Friday of the month. Please call the Rectory.

3 November 25th, 2018 Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe Parish Community News & Events The Tuesday Evening Devotion scheduled for Tuesday, Nov.27th is cancelled because Fr. Saffron will be on retreat. Christmas Craft Fair: Beautiful Handmade Items Sat. December 1st, 10AM-3PM, Sunday, December 2nd 8:30AM-2PM All handmade items, Centerpieces, cemetery cones, crosses and wreaths. We will have a jewelry boutique, full line of polish bakery items and of course wide selection of kielbasa, kiszka, ect. Catholic Charismatic Prayer Group (Spanish) Praise, prayer, and teaching assembly Sunday, November 25th after 12 noon Mass Music: Oscar Rubio Free admission! Food will be sold. On December 11th the Catholic Charismatic Renewal will be celebrating with Mariachis the vesper of Our Lady Of Guadalupe Feast Day. Starting with outdoors procession at 7:30pm Holy Mass will be celebrated at 8:00pm. Delicious Tamales and Mariachis music will follow in the church s basement. All are welcome to join in this celebration. St Josaphat's Right to Life Committee is sponsoring its Baby Shower for Life this year from December 1st to December 16th on behalf of Bright Dawn Ministry. Sr. Dorothy Rothar, who founded Bright Dawn Ministry, provides sidewalk counseling outside abortion clinics, such as Choices in Jamaica, Queens. Thanks to your donations and gifts received from other parishes, Sr. Dorothy is able to organize a monthly baby shower at The Immaculate Conception Center in Douglaston to provide the brave women who chose life much needed supplies to care for their new baby. The Baptism of the baby is also arranged by Sr. Dorothy. Please place your gifts of baby clothes for girls and boys, diapers and other baby items in the Carriage of Love placed inside the church. Monetary donations can be made by dropping off checks payable to Sr. Dorothy Rothar, CSJ in the Pennies for Life donation box in the back of the church. 5 Munera: Teach, Govern, and Sanctify. Laudetur Iesus Christus! As the Solemnity of Christ the King is celebrated in the Novus Ordo this week and St. Andrew's Day is coming up we all know that Advent is next week! All of the scripture readings in both forms of the Mass for the past few weeks have pointed towards the End Times. We don't know when the final end will come for all, Jesus told us not to worry about it too, and for individuals the end "comes at an hour you do not expect." I would say simply this as we think of Christ the King: is Jesus truly the center of all your thoughts, words, and actions? Do you desire Jesus in all of your thoughts, words, and actions? Christ will come again as judge and the first half of Advent is all about that theme. Should we be scared? I say "no". If we truly allow Jesus Christ to be the center of all we do we have nothing to worry about. With Advent coming we will be graced to enter into a New Liturgical Year. As we prepare to flip all the liturgical books back to the beginning you may want to prepare yourself to celebrated Advent. Advent gets lost with all the pre-christmas events and yet it is truly one of the most beautiful liturgical seasons; start thinking of ways in which you can make the best out of the four weeks of Advent. I ask you for your prayers too. All priests are given one week of retreat time during the year. For the past few years I have taken the week before Advent as my retreat. I will go to Enders Island off the cost of Mystic CT. for my retreat. Please pray for me that I may truly have a time to rest, recommit myself to Jesus and priestly service. Due to my being away there will be no Devotions on November 27th. There was an old custom of celebrating parties and dances on St. Andrew's Day because such celebrations were not done during Advent due to its penitential nature. On November 30 it might be nice to celebrate these old traditions and try to keep Advent a little quieter so you may prepare for Christ and Christmas. In Christ, Rev. Fr. Stephen A. Saffron
