Contact the parish office for further details: Prayer in the Square Call of the Crucified Heart: A Program with Relics of Christ s Passion Sunday, June 4th - 2:00 pm St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Parish and School will host a presentation called, Call of the Crucified Heart: A Program with Relics of Christ s Passion on Sunday, June 4 at 2:00 PM. This event allows participants of all ages, in any level of spirituality to deepen and grow in their faith. A unique collection of relics has been brought together in a program of meditations, music and prayers commemorating the events of Passion of Our Lord, Jesus Christ. For those of you that have attended this program in past years, this year s version takes you to an even deeper level in your walk with Jesus during His Passion. We encourage you to join us for a special opportunity that is sure to touch your heart and connect you with the roots of your faith. Learning about our Saints and Reliquaries Saturday, June 3rd Come pray for the sanctity of human life and for an end to the persecution of Christians worldwide. Our rosary begins at 8:30 am following the 8:00 am mass. Please join us at the Ten Commandments Monument located on our parish grounds. For what hope is there for us if God should withdraw His Mercy from us? Saint Vincent de Paul St. Boniface Feast Day - June 5th St. Boniface was educated at the Benedictine monastery and became a Benedictine monk at Exeter. He was a missionary to Germany and became Bishop and then. Archbishop of Mainz. He reformed the churches in his see, and built religious houses in Germany. Once in Saxony, Boniface encountered a tribe worshiping a Norse deity in the form of a huge oak tree. Boniface walked up to the tree, removed his shirt, took up an axe, and without a word he hacked down the six-foot wide wooden god. Boniface stood on the trunk, and asked, How stands your mighty god? My God is stronger than he. On his way to a confirmation meeting, he was killed by a group of armed robbers who were hoping to find silver and gold in his bags. Instead they found pages of sacred texts. What is a 1st Class Relic? There are three classes of relics: A first-class relic is a part of the saint s body (this is the part inserted in the altar). A second-class relic is a piece of the saint s clothing or something used by the saint. A third-class relic is an object which has been touched to a firstclass relic. The harvest is abundant, but the laborers are few; pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. Matthew 9:37 Radical Awareness of Discipleship (RAD) RAD is a gathering of high school age men who are open to following Jesus Christ as Catholic priests. Events are sponsored by the Office of Priestly Vocations of the Archdiocese of Denver and led by Vocations Director, Fr. Ryan O Neill, and seminarians of St. John Vianney Theological Seminary. Retreats include: Prayer, Mass, Small group discussions, Opportunity for Question & Answer with Archbishop Aquila or seminarians, Sports, Food, and Friendship All RAD Retreats are free! Retreats are held at St. John Vianney Seminary (1300 South Steele St., Denver, 80210). 4 Vocation Chalice We need good, holy priests to bring us the Eucharist. Therefore the purpose of our program is to pray for priests and priestly vocations every day. The chalice is the sacred cup that the priest uses at Mass in which the Precious Blood of Jesus is consecrated then given to the faithful. We hope through our efforts and God s grace that this spiritual devotion will plant the seed of a priestly vocation in many young men. 5 Stewardship of Time & Talent Memorial Day Monday, May 29th Parish Offices and School Closed Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary On Saturday, May 13th three of our Saint Vincent de Paul Parishioners were consecrated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. This consecration took place at the 5:00 pm mass and was followed by our 100 year Celebration of Fatima. These parishioners are: Mila Glodava, Lee Ann Rodgers, and Barbara Watry More about this procession and the consecration will be provided in the next issue of The Call but we ve included a few photos from this event in this bulletin. 6 THE ASCENSION OF THE LORD Stewardship of Treasure Charitable Contributions from Saint Vincent s Tithe of the Tithe 2017 Catholic Communication Campaign The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) established the Catholic Communication Campaign collection in 1979 to respond to the national and local communications needs of the Church. The collection s proceeds are split equally between each participating diocese and the national office. Dioceses use their share of the CCC collection to support local communications efforts such as televised Masses and diocesan newspapers. On the national level, CCC funds support the development and production of a wide range of media initiatives that are carried out by USCCB staff and grantee organizations. A portion of the CCC s national funds are also set aside for grants to aid Catholic communication efforts in developing nations. Archbishop s Catholic Appeal Archbishop Aquila has selected The Joy, Power, and Grace of Giving as the theme for the 2017 Archbishop s Catholic Appeal. Without question, one experiences profound joy when helping others. Power is the realization that our charitable deeds have the capacity to improve at least one life. The grace of giving is a special blessing from God who calls us to give without limits. 7 Catholic Events and Resources Ascension of our Lord A bold thought occurred to me the other day. What if the Holy Spirit can do utterly wonderful, breathtaking things in our lives, without our even praying for them? Sometimes I wonder if the strong Catholic instinct to work for justice and peace keeps us in a state of 24/7 alert. I know that I forget that the Holy Spirit is still working miracles that have nothing to do with my efforts. Duh. You know, it s not like we did so many good works that God decided to give us this wonderful world as a reward. Before any human came to life, the Spirit was hovering over the waters. The Spirit was there at the beginning of the beginning, working the miracle of life, and rivers, and mountains, and sun and moon, and, of course, us. And it was God s glorious initiative to work in intimate concert with Mary to bring the Savior into the world. The Holy Spirit came upon her, and it had nothing to do with any good works anyone did. It was God s mighty power, and Blessed Mother s yes, that saved us. I think about this in this week before Pentecost. What if God is working a miracle in your life right now? What if the Holy Spirit is curing an addiction of a loved one, or healing a marriage, or luring an adult child back to the comfort of the Church? What if God is answering long-abandoned prayers that you gave up on because you decided God s answer was no? The word Spirit means breath. I challenge you to take note of what God is doing in your life. It will take your breath away.
