SATURDAY EVENING MASS: 5:00pm SUNDAY MASSES: 8:30 & 11:00am HOLY DAY MASSES: As announced in bulletin WEEKDAY MASS: Are in the Church at the times announced BAPTISMS: Parents are expected to be practicing Catholics, and registered in the parish. Baptisms are celebrated at the times scheduled. MARRIAGE: Marriages should be arranged at least 6 months in advance. If either party is under 19 years of age, Diocesan policy requires special instruction and a date cannot be given until the instructions have been completed and the Chancery Office has granted permission. CHURCH ARRANGEMENTS ARE TO BE MADE FIRST. Hall and other social arrangements are to be made after the Church date has been set. Weddings are not performed on Sundays. FUNERALS: Arrangements for a funeral must be made with the Parish office by the Funeral Director before publication of notice in the newspaper and the time or date is set for the Funeral. SICK CALLS: Call the Parish Office at any time. If there is anyone at home who cannot get to Mass or the Sacraments because of illness or advanced age, please let Father know. You can reach him on his cell at 630/ Family members may request to take communion to other members confined at home. HOSPITAL CALLS: If you or one of your Catholic neighbors is entering the hospital, please let us know. Time and distance permitting we will do our best to visit you. SACRAMENTAL RECONCILIATION: Confession is available at any time upon request, and at times announced in the bulletin. NEW PARISHIONERS: Our heart is big enough for all. Our parish accepts those who wish to be enriched with the Good News of Jesus. Go where you are fed. If you wish to have your spirit fed at St. Luke's, we ask that you commit yourself to our community. This means that every parishioner with an income is invited to use a Sunday envelope, since we expect to meet our needs from our Parish Collection at the Offertory of the Mass. Danilo Soriano Pastor Religious Education Tel: 630/ Parish Office Tel: 630/ Parish Office Website: TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION The fact that many monastic churches do not have a prominent tabernacle shapes the patterns of liturgical prayer. Monastic communities often protect the ancient value of receiving from the same sacrifice, meaning that the communicants are assured that what they eat and drink in the Holy Mysteries actually comes from the same celebration. It surprises many to learn that the Church does not foresee, nor does it provide for, Communion of the faithful from the reserved Sacrament. Liturgical laws have long defended your right to receive from the same sacrifice, the same Mass, that you attend. Today s familiar individual hosts first appeared in the eleventh century at about the time when tabernacles were coming into use. The turn away from bready bread allowed the hosts to be reserved since they did not spoil like regular bread, and made the annual Easter duty counts easier. Rev. James Field, Copyright J. S. Paluch Co. THE CALL OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD The Twenty-third Psalm, today s responsorial psalm, is arguably the best known of all the psalms. The line that reads Even though I walk in the dark valley / I fear no evil; for you are at my side / with your rod and your staff / that give me courage (Psalm 23:4) connects this week s scriptures to the wonderful story of the road to Emmaus, which we heard last week. The Lord Jesus, our Good Shepherd, is constantly at our side. He calls us each by name, beckoning us into a deeper relationship with him. That call, issued to each of us at the moment of our baptism, carries with it the promise of the Good Shepherd: I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly (John 10:10). Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. At one time, of course, the bread for the Eucharist was the ordinary bread of the day, except unleavened, probably prepared at home. It was broken and distributed to the faithful. Early on the loaf itself was referred to as the hostia in Latin, meaning the sacrifice, the same word for the sacrificial animal in Jewish worship, and for Jesus as the Lamb of God. By giving his life on the cross, Jesus became the hostia for us. To this day in the Greek Church, one of the tasks of the priest s wife is to bake the bread for the Divine Liturgy, sometimes in a bakery oven dedicated to that purpose and called a Bethlehem.

This group will meet on: Wednesday, May 17th at 6:00pm in Jericho. Nicole Chafer and Mark Donovan will be there too. Please come and start to make this group your own and bring your friends. JOIN THE BOOSTERS FOR A BASEBALL GAME Save the date for baseball with the Boosters!! Come and watch a game of baseball and socialize with parishioners of St. Luke Parish. What a great way to get to know one another a little better. Ask anyone who went last year, they will tell you what a great time they had! The Boosters are organizing an outing to a Schaumburg Boomers Baseball game on Friday, June 9th at 6:30pm so mark your calendars now! Bring the whole family. There will be fireworks after the game. Tickets will be on sale for $10pp the weekends of MAY 14TH, 21ST and 28TH. You will receive your tickets the weekend before the game. Hope to see you there! Show Reddy Allam, was born into a very traditional Catholic family in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. After doing philosophical ad theological in India, he was ordained and worked in the Diocese of Guntur for 10 years. Since Fr. Allam came to the USA at the invitation of Bishop Imesch in 2004, he has served in four parishes: Our Lady of Mercy in Aurora, Immaculate Conception in Elmhurst, Christ the Servant in Woodridge and Immaculate Conception in Braidwood. Recently, Father Allam was appointed pastor of St. Margaret Mary Parish in Herscher.
