St. Thomas More Parish welcomes new Director of Stewardship ~ Lynn Bamford Dear Parish Families of St. Thomas More Church and St. Veronica s Chapel, My name is Lynn Bamford.

Over the years, each one of us has been involved in various parish ministries such as the parish festival, altar serving, Knights of Columbus, the National Padre Pio Relics tour, the Christmas

Some of the areas I will be responsible for are: - stewardship development engaging parishioners to share of their time, talent and treasure through participation in various parish ministries -

I have been a member of St. Thomas More Parish for over 20 years along with my husband, Joe and now with our daughter, Emily. As a family, we feel so blessed to be part of such a wonderful parish. Over the years, each one of us has been involved in various parish ministries such as the parish festival, altar serving, Knights of Columbus, the National Padre Pio Relics tour, the Christmas Pageant, etc. Participating in these ministries has enabled us to strengthen our faith and form new friendships. Some of the areas I will be responsible for are: - stewardship development engaging parishioners to share of their time, talent and treasure through participation in various parish ministries - managing the ongoing capital campaign Honoring our Past, Consecrating our Future - overseeing parish fundraising activities, Mustard Seed ministries - supporting and partnering with the Knights of Columbus in their many Christian service activities - planning and organizing initiatives, programs and events outside of daily parish activities, such as the recent CPR/AED defibrillator training and the formation of a Parish Safety Committee - developing a comprehensive list of parish ministries In closing, I wish to thank Father Taillon for giving me the opportunity to serve my fellow parishioners as the Stewardship Director. I have worked with many parishioners over the years and am very thankful for all your help and support. I look forward to meeting many more parishioners and working with you on the great events that bring the St. Thomas More Parish family together in faith. It is very informal and attended by some scholarly and not-so-scholarly folks. It s rewarding and even some fun. Bring your coffee and come on over to St. Thomas More parish hall! Pray the Rosary The rosary is prayed each weekday after the 9:00AM Mass at St Thomas More and for the special intention of peace in the world and on Saturday mornings at 8:30AM. before Mass. Please join us, when ever you are available.

Adding-up Pennies for the Poor Near the parking lot entrances of St. Thomas More Church and at St. Veronica Chapel, there is a small box where people place change. Donations go to the Diocesan Dire Emergency Fund in South County that helps with rental assistance, utilities, prescriptions. Thanks to all who make change, change the world.

6 Believing in Jesus Christ Throughout the Easter season, all three of the Sunday readings are taken from the New Testament--the Christian scriptures. Together they explore what it means to believe in Jesus as the Christ, the One who fulfilled the prophecies of the Jewish scriptures. Today's selections refer to our human weakness, yet they emphasize the forgiveness and peace that are available to those who put their faith in "Jesus Christ the righteous one" (1 John 2:2). In the Acts of the Apostles Peter invites everyone to "repent, therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be wiped away" (Acts 3:19). The First Letter of John calls Jesus Christ "expiation for our sins" (1 John 2:2). Finally, in the Gospel Jesus greets the disciples with "Peace" and urges them to preach "repentance, for the forgiveness of sins" (Luke 24:47). The Surprise Messiah After the crucifixion of Jesus, his disciples were in despair. Not only had they seen their master's horrible death, their own lives were now at risk, for the crucifixion suggested to them that Jesus was not the awaited Messiah after all. The Messiah had been envisioned as somehow coming in power, liberating Israel from foreign domination and signaling God's long-awaited return to dwell again with Israel. The Crucifixion suggested to them the possibility of God's rejection of Jesus, or Jesus' failure to achieve God's purposes. This is partly why the disciples were amazed when Jesus appeared. God had vindicated Jesus by raising him. The Resurrection revealed that God's promises were actually fulfilled, precisely through this death. Through the cross, God had indeed liberated the people from sin and death. God had truly returned, in Jesus and then later in the presence and activity of the Holy Spirit. The dominion of sin and death had been broken. The Resurrection was the first display of the new kingdom of God, in Jesus.
