Dr. Ftzgerald Says Bovne Tuberculoss Can Be Stamped Out. A thorough nspecton of all or the dary cattle on Maul s to be made as coon as possble by Dr. J. C. Wthn tlo next few weeks, Dr. Ftzgerald expects to vst every farm on the sland that produces mlk for ale. and test out the cattle wth the tubeculn test, whch s recognzed as an nfallble method. Mcny or the cattle on Mau have already been tested n the past, and from what s known, t s not thought that u very great amount of dlseaso wll bo found. Some tme ago 200 head of cattle on tho Grovo Ranch were tested, and only about 0 n- Ftz-reralstates that Maul s nrobablv fected anmals wero found. Tomorrow, throughout the length nd hreadth of our far land, Amercan people at the behest of Presdent W lson wll unte n of-m- j; prayers for the restoraton of peace to war-rdde- n Europe. The chef functon of a dety through all past ajcs had been to strengthen the arms of bs followers and to confound ther enemv. le wa prmarly a war pul. Then came One who taught t!e doctrne of love ot eace on earth, jjood-w- ll towards all men. om cred was tnrncness of ones enemes and the retmnnj; of good for evl. Whose l e example and teachngs, f they meant anythng at all. were dametrcally oposcd to conflct or the doctrne of mght. And many.lalons became followers of ths gnat Teacher. Today most of these same natons are n bloody conflct, one wth another. All the prmeval passons of th human lace are rampant. The lust of battle s n the blood. Hate regr.s supreme and love s a forgotten thng. The race-ol- d doctrne of r.n eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth, s the only rule of conduct. Xor s ths a matter for wonderment. Humanty s weak. t s one thng to profess and to beleve, and qute another thng to apply these same professons avd belefs. Natons are but aggregatons of ndvduals, and human nature s the same everywhere. Put the anomaly of t all s that natons that are frankly puttng behnd them the doctrnes they have professed to beleve, should be able to appeal ther cause to ther professed dvnty, not only for justfcaton, but for ad n ther cause of murderng ther fllowmen. That contendng forces ran pray to the same gentle Chrst for ad n slaughterng each other, s dffcult for. the mnd to grasp, and forces the concluson that the Chrstanty of the Chrstan natons s but a thn veneer. And tomorrow all Amerca, by proclamaton of our Presdent, wll engage n prayer to ths same God, beseechng peace for strcken P.urope SUNDAY AMUSKMENTS AND PLT.LC MORALS. The mnsters of Honolulu are preparng to crusade aganst the proposal of the movng pcture theaters to gve Sunday performances. They mght fnd a good many thngs much more serous to oppose. t s dffcult to see the dfference between a Sunday baseball game and a clean movng pcture exhbton on Sunday, from the standpont of publc morals. Yet the former has hem permtted for many years n ths Terrtory, on the generally accepted plea that t furnshes a healthful recreaton for the people. The same argument should apply to the mov ng pctures, only n greater dgree, for more people attend these shows than care to see ball games. Honolulu s comng to be a very cosmopoltan cty cosmopoltan n taste as well as n natonaltes. And there are thousands of persons there now to whom Sunday s a day of boredom. t s well enough to argue that the churches are open, or that the walkng n the parks s excellent, llecause these thngs satsfy you, and delght me, s no reason why you and should try to force the man across the street to accept them also. Hs vews are enttled to as much respect as our own. What Honolulu really needs s many more knds of amusements and dstractons for the people durng ther lesure hours. And as long as these are of a character not essentally prejudcal to moralty, they wll be blessngs to the communty. Any man who has had any normal amount of experence n cty lfe does not have to be convnced that "kllng tme" on the streets, s about the most demoralzng occupaton a young man can ndulge n. And Honolulu s gettng to be notorous for ths knd of ndulgence. The objecton to Sunday movng pctures s mstaken and mschevous The people of Hawa are asked to back a scheme to help the poor cotton grower, whose product s left on hs hands on account of the war n Europe. The suggeston s tmely. by not we launch a ueapples movement to help the poor pneapple grower n Hawa. And when the tarff cut gets n ts work, we can start a proposton to help the poor sugar planter keep hs head above water A STRDE N RGHT DRECTON. Wth. Goodng Feld occupyng a desk n the Promoton Commttee, as secretary of the tuna club, Mau ought to fare as well as present condtons wll permt. Mau wll never come nto her own untl she has another wharf or two, and some more roads; and the most urgent of these s a road for vehcles to the top of Haleakala. Weve got the goods, the trouble s n delverng them Talk about the rony of fate!
