2 Pre class a ct v t Preclass Centers In the preclass centers chldren wll use language, motor, and cogntve sklls, learn to nteract wth peers and cooperate n small groups. Select four centers to use ths unt. Assgn a teacher to set up and supervse each center wth no more than sx chldren. Materals IMPORTANT: Do not allow any small toys n the classroom. Frst check all toys for sze. You can obtan a safety cylnder from a pedatrcan. Any object that can ft nto the cylnder s too small and could cause a chld to choke. Housekeepng Center 2 washable dolls (of dverse ethncty, e.g., black and whte), play food, dshes and 2 small blankets Story Center smple books wth lmted text (cardboard are the most sturdy and durable) and large pllows Block Center set of large blocks, people, anmal fgures (plastc or wooden) and toy cars Puzzle Center 1 puzzle for each chld (for twos each puzzle pece tself should be a complete famlar object, for threes most can complete a 20-pece puzzle). NOTE: A puzzle should have all the peces. If a puzzle pece s lost, the entre puzzle should be thrown out. Instructons Gude the play n each center renforcng the unt theme. Refer to the followng example for help n drectng play and askng relevant questons. In the Housekeepng Center, ask the chldren: Ths baby doll has arms, do you have arms? Yes, and you have fngers too! God gave you fngers so you can pck thngs up, or buld thngs or play the pano. Teacher Tps You may want to try other centers such as transportaton, large motor or manpulatve. Bble Story Text Geness 2:7, 22; Psalm 139:13-16 Materals For the teacher: props for the days of creaton: Day 1 flashlght; Day 2 blue paper; Day 3 a flower or pctures of a tree and flower; Day 4 a yellow paper sun, whte moon or yellow star; Day 5 pctures of a brd and fsh; Day 6 pctures of people and anmals; Day 7 scenc pcture crayons or markers glue stck 1 pece of dark colored constructon paper Reproducble Pages: Page A, 1 copy for the teacher Preparaton 1. Cut out the teachng pcture from the copy of Reproducble Page A. 2. Color the teachng pcture. 3. Glue the teachng pcture to the center of the constructon paper. Adam and Eve Sng the Creaton Song from the Unt 8 Song Sheet. Show the chldren the prop for each day as you sng the song. God made all of these thngs. He looked around at what he had made and saw that t was good. Then he sad, I wll make a man to take care of the fsh, the brds and the anmals. He called the man Adam (Geness 1:26-27). Show the chldren the pcture and let them fnd Adam. Then he made a woman to be Adam s wfe and to be hs helper. Her name was Eve (Geness 2:20-22). Let the chldren fnd Eve n the pcture. God made a beautful garden for Adam and Eve to lve n. It had many dfferent trees, some wth pretty flowers and some wth frut to eat. God told Adam to take good care of the garden. On the sxth day, after God made the anmals, he made a man. Pont to Adam. What was hs name? That s rght, hs name was Adam. He also made a woman. Pont to Eve. What was her name? Yes, her name was Eve. God made everyone. God made me and God made you. He gave each of us a head. Pat the top of your head. Can you pat your head? God gave us arms. Shake your arms. Let s shake our arms. God gave us fngers. Wggle your fngers. We have legs. We can walk wth our legs. Have the chldren stand up and walk around n a crcle. God gave us feet. Lft one leg and shake your foot. (Psalm 139:14) Materals For the teacher: felt board scssors crayons or markers 2 peces of dfferent colored felt tape black marker lamnate or clear contact paper (optonal) Reproducble Pages Page B, 1 copy for the teacher Page C, 1 copy for the teacher Preparaton 1. Cut out the stencls of the body parts from the copes of Reproducble Pages B and C. 2. Usng the black marker, trace the boy stencls onto one color felt and the grl stencls onto the other color felt. 3. Cut out each of the felt board peces. 4. Place tape on the back of each felt board pece. Instructons 1. Assemble the boy and grl felt board fgures on the felt board. Today we are gong to talk about our bodes. Can you tell me who made your body? That s rght! God made your body. He made some of you boys. Pont to the boy fgure on the felt board. He made some of you grls. Pont to the grl fgure on the felt board. 2. For a class of mostly twos, conduct the actvty as follows: A. Remove one of the felt board peces from the boy felt board fgure. B. Ask the chldren whch body part s mssng. C. Choose a boy to place the mssng pece back on the felt board. D. Identfy and talk about each body part. Have chldren pont to ther own arms, legs, etc. Explan what each part does and how we should be thankful that God gave us arms to hug, legs to run, etc. E. Repeat the prevous steps usng the grl felt board fgure and choosng a grl to replace the mssng pece. Alternate between boys and grls untl each chld has had a turn. 3. For a class of mostly threes, conduct the actvty as follows: A. Gve each boy a pece of the boy felt board fgure. Gve each grl a pece of the grl felt board fgure. B. Have each boy and each grl take turns addng ther peces to the felt board untl each fgure s assembled. C. Identfy and talk about each body part. Materals For each chld: 1 pece of lght blue constructon paper crayons glue stck For the teacher: scssors green tssue paper brght-colored tssue paper Reproducble Pages: Page D, 1 copy for each chld Preparaton 1. Cut out the Adam and Eve, tree and the sun pctures from the copes of Reproducble Page D. 2. Cut the green tssue paper nto 1" squares. Cut ten peces for each chld. 3. Cut the brght-colored tssue paper nto 2" squares. Cut fve peces for each chld. 4. Wrte on the top of each pece of constructon paper. 5. Make a model of the craft followng the nstructons. Instructons 1. Gve each chld a set of pctures to color. 2. Gve each chld a pece of constructon paper. 3. Help the chldren glue ther pctures to the constructon paper. 4. Gve the chldren fve green tssue squares and have them glue these on ther trees to make leaves. 5. Gve each chld ten brght-colored tssue squares to crumple and then glue on as flowers, bushes and grass. Concluson Pont to the man n the pcture and ask the chldren hs name. Famlarze yourself wth the actvty. Instructons 1. Show the chldren the baby doll. Hold the baby. Rock the baby and gve t a bottle. 2. Pass the baby around, so everyone has a turn to play wth t. 3. After everyone has had a turn wth the baby, put t away. Sng Grew and Grew from the Unt 8 Song Sheet and use each chld s name n the song. 4. Remember when you were a baby? All you could do was le on the floor. You couldn t run. You couldn t jump. All you could do was cry f you wanted somethng. Le on the floor on your back and cry. If you were hungry, you couldn t eat a banana or a cooke. All you could do was drnk a bottle. Le on the floor and pretend to hold up a bottle and make suckng sounds. But then you got a lttle bgger, and you could roll over. Roll over onto your stomach. You could hold up your head. Hold up your head. You could smle. Smle. Then you got up on your hands and knees and rocked back and forth and laughed. Rock on your hands and knees and laugh. And before you knew t, you could crawl! Crawl around. But you were too lttle to st up. Can you st up now? Yes! You can st up! Can you talk? Can you say MaMa or DaDa. Wow! You are gettng so bg! Do you have teeth, so you can eat food nstead of just drnkng a bottle? Look at those nce bg teeth. Are you bg enough to stand up? You can even stand now! You are gettng so bg! But can you walk?
