Materals Use the materals prevously selected for ths unt s preclass centers. Preparaton 1. Be sure to check the condton of the materals selected for ths unt s preclass centers pror to set up. Replace any broken toys, or puzzles wth mssng peces as necessary. 2. Set up the centers before the chldren come nto the classroom. 3. Assgn a teacher to each center and have the teachers stay n those centers untl the sngng begns. Instructons Gude the play n each center renforcng the unt theme. Teacher Tps IMPORTANT: Do not allow any small toys n the classroom. Frst check all toys for sze. You can obtan a safety cylnder from a pedatrcan. Cut out and color the copy of Reproducble Page A. 2. Famlarze yourself wth the story. Abel Show the chldren the pcture of Adam and Eve n the garden. God made the whole world. He made all the anmals n the world. Do you remember some of the anmals that God made? Encourage the chldren to name some anmals. God made the frst people n the world. He made a man. What was the man s name? Yes, that s rght, Adam. Then he made a wfe and helper for Adam. Does anyone remember her name? Rght, her name was Eve. Adam and Eve lved n a beautful garden that God made for them. One day, Adam and Eve had a lttle baby. Show the pcture of Adam and Eve wth the baby. The baby s name was Can. Do you see Can n ths pcture? Let the chldren dentfy Can, Adam and Eve. Can grew and grew and got as bg as you are. One day Can s mommy sad, Can, we have a bg surprse for you! We are gong to have a lttle baby. You wll be a bg brother. Can was probably very excted! Would you lke to have a baby n your famly? Would you lke to be a bg brother or a bg sster? Let the chldren respond. One day Mommy and Daddy sad, Can, come see your new baby brother. Hs name s Abel. Show the chldren the pcture of Adam, Eve, Can and baby Abel. Can looked at the tny baby. He had tny hands and tny feet. He yawned and hs tny nose wrnkled up, lke ths. Yawn and wrnkle your nose. Encourage the chldren to mtate you. Everybody loved the new baby. Cut out the fgure of the baby from the copy of reproducble Page B. 2. Color the baby. 3. Place tape on the back of the felt board fgures. 4. Famlarze yourself wth the story and song. Instructons Sng My Own Lovng Famly from the Unt 9 Song Sheet. (Place Grandma and Lesl on the felt board.) Lesl jumped up from her bed and ran down the stars. Today s the day! Today s the day! she exclamed as she ran nto the ktchen. Good mornng! sad Grandma. Would you lke some orange juce? Yes, thank you, sad Lesl, jumpng up and down. Today s the day! Today s the day! And what are you so excted about? Grandma asked. Today s the day my mommy comes home wth my new baby sster! I can t wat to hold her and play wth her and show her my room and my dolls and... Wat a mnute! sad Grandma. Honey, the baby s stll very lttle. She won t be able to play for qute some tme. At frst she wll mostly sleep, and you and Davd wll have to be very quet so that you don t wake her up. Lesl ddn t thnk that sounded lke very much fun. She thought about t whle she ate her breakfast. She thought about t when she went to her room to get dressed. Then she heard a car drve up. It was Daddy s car! (Put Dad, Mom and Davd fgures on the felt board.) Lesl and Davd ran out of the door to hug ther mommy. Daddy was gettng somethng out of the back seat. (Put baby fgure on the felt board.) Meet your new baby sster, he sad. Ths s Sarah. Sarah looked very small. She was all wrapped up n a blanket, but Lesl could see some black har that stuck out lke fuzz. Her eyes were closed, but when Lesl touched her baby sster, her eyes opened wde, and she began to cry very loudly. Davd put hs hands over hs ears. Oh, dear, sad Mommy. Let me get her nsde and change her. Can I carry her? asked Lesl. No, sad Daddy. She s too small, wat untl she gets bgger. Daddy and Mommy carred baby Sarah and all of her stuff nto the house. She had a lot of stuff. Then they changed her and fed her and she fnally went to sleep. Lesl was happy when baby Sarah went to sleep. She wanted to st on her mommy s lap. Sorry, Honey, sad Daddy, Mommy has to rest. (Take all the fgures off the felt board except Grandma, Davd and Lesl.) Grandma took Davd and Lesl to the park. It was fun, but Lesl really wanted Mommy to take her to the park. Grandma made them lunch. It was good, but Lesl really wanted Mommy to make her lunch. (Put all the fgures on the felt board.) Later Mommy tred to eat dnner wth the famly, but the baby started to cry. She cred and cred. She cred all through dnner. Lesl wshed the baby would be quet. Mommy tred to feed her. Daddy tred to walk her. (Take all the fgures off the felt board except Lesl.) Fnally, when Lesl was gettng ready for bed, baby Sarah was quet. Grandma had sad she would be up to tuck Lesl n, but Lesl was feelng sad. What she really wanted was to have her mommy tuck her n. (Put the Mom fgure on the felt board.) Just then Mommy walked n. Mommy! she sad, runnng to her and huggng her. You ddn t forget me! Oh, my precous grl, Mommy sad, as she sat down on the edge of Lesl s bed I know I have been very busy today. Yes, sad Lesl. Ths tme the baby was n her crb. Her eyes were open, and she looked rght at Lesl. Mommy, sad Lesl smlng, she knows I am her bg sster. She sure does, sad Mommy. She wll need you to love her and take care of her, and as she grows she wll need you to teach her thngs. Mommy, sad Lesl. Am I stll your prncess? Yes, sad Mommy, you wll always be my prncess. Then what can baby Sarah be? Lesl asked. She thought for a moment, lookng down at her tny sster wth the bg eyes and fuzzy har. I know, she sad. baby Sarah can be our lttle angel. Concluson God has gven some of us specal jobs to be bg brothers or bg ssters. Are any of you a bg brother or sster? It s very specal when God gves us a baby to take care of. Babes are presents from God. You were all once babes. You are stll specal presents from God. Say a short prayer to thank God for babes. Do you have any frends who have babes n ther famles? Can you tell them that ther baby s a specal present from God? Teacher Tps If you have all twos, you can smplfy or shorten the story as needed. Cut out pctures from magaznes and tape them to the felt board as props. Anmate the fgures by movng them as you tell the story. 7 C r a f t Famly House Ths craft wll help remnd the chldren that God gves us famles. Materals For each chld: 1 envelope 1 pece of brght-colored constructon paper glue stck For the teacher: constructon paper scssors Reproducble Pages: Page C, 1 copy for each chld Page D, 1 copy for the teacher Preparaton 1. Cut out the famly fgures from the copes of Reproducble Page C. 2. Place a set of fgures n an envelope for each chld. 3. Cut out the house stencls from the copy of Reproducble Page D. 4. Trace and cut out one roof, one house frame, one door and two wndows for each chld from constructon paper. 5. Wrte God Gves Us on the top of each pece of brght-colored constructon paper. 6. Make a model of the craft followng the nstructons. Instructons 1. Show the chldren your model of the completed craft. God gves us famles and places to lve. Ths famly lves n a house. 2. Have each chld choose a sheet of brght-colored constructon paper. 3. Help each chld complete the house, as shown n Fgure A: A. Glue the house frame to the center of the constructon paper. B. Glue the roof to the constructon paper on top of the house frame. C. Glue the door to the bottom center of the house frame. D. Glue the wndows to the house. 4. Gve the chldren ther envelopes and have them glue ther famly fgures anywhere on the page. Concluson Talk wth the chldren about were they lve. Does your famly lve n a house? In an apartment? Instructons 1. Explan to the chldren that they can do dfferent chores to help ther famles at home. There are many thngs that mommy and daddy need to do at home. Do you have some jobs that you do at home? 2. Demonstrate for the chldren how to do each of the followng chores: foldng washcloths, settng the table and matchng socks. 3. Gve the chldren a turn at each of the chores. Bble Truth Actvty Mommy or Daddy may ask you to help them by pckng up your toys, or puttng away clothes. What do you do when you are asked to help? Show the chldren the completed craft, and tell them that helpng to wash the car s one way they can be a helper. 2. Gve each chld a car. 3. Have the chldren color ther cars. 4. Gve each chld a sponge to glue onto the car. Ths s a sponge. Do you know what sponges are used for? Yes, we use sponges to clean thngs. 5. Gve each chld an alumnum bucket to glue onto the car. Ths s a bucket. Do you know how we can use a bucket? Yes, a bucket can hold the soap and water we need to wash the car. 6. Gve each chld a pece of yarn to glue to the car as a hose. Ths s a hose. It carres water to rnse all of the soap off the car. 7. Help the chldren to glue ther cars onto a pece of constructon paper, as shown n Fgure A.
