1 1 of :16 Welcome to RootsWeb.com Sgn n DISCOVER MORE > Home Searches Famly Trees Malng Lsts Message Boards Web Stes Passwords Help Archver > SALEM WITCH > > SALEM-WITCH-L Archves From: "Dora Smth" <dorasmth24@hotmal.com> Subject: [SALEM WITCH L] genealoges of Chrstan Trask and Chrstan Olver. Date: Thu, 05 Aug :34:56 EDT I checked out Kathy's statement n the Beverly records n the lbrary yesterday; they show that John Trask dd ndeed marry Chrstan Woodberre on Apr 9, 1679, n Woodbury. If there was some relaton between Chrstan Trask and Brdget Bshop, they should show f one does enough chartng of the genealoges of these two people, and also of John Trask. I ddn't learn of any drect close relatonshp, but perhaps someone wll pck up on somethng n what I dd learn. I also dd learn thngs about assorted relatonshps to Chrstan Trask that amazed me. Frst; Brdget Bshop's genealogy. She had two chldren n England, apparently, who there s no record of once they were born, they seemngly dd not come to ths country. She had Chrstan. Her husband, Thomas Olver, had three chldren whose marrages could concevably account for a clam of someone beng an n law of Brdget's. Here s what Davd Greene had on them, whch s all Icould fnd. By hs frst wfe, Mary, Thomas Olver of Salem had: Thomas B England bef 1637 John b Engl bef 1637 poss had dau Ellen, and poss s grandfather of Ellnor Jones named n Olver's estate's dsbursement request and order. Mary m (1) Salem 1661 Job Hllard, had Job Hllard and Abgal Hooper named n the dsbursement request and order n 1693 as grandchldren of Thomas Olver. Apparently Job Hllard Jr was the new admnstrator of the estate. Mary m (2) Salem Wllam West. apparently had no chldren by Also mentoned n the dsbursement request and order on Olver's estate was Elnor Jones alas Ollver of Nevs (the Elnor JOnes above), and the fact that Edward Bshop of Salem was apponted guardan of hs step granddaughter Susannah Mason who was stll a mnor. (and I guess not yet marred.) The records of the Traske famly are confused and confusng, but here s what has been sorted out. There are two Trask genealoges on lne at and Also a small amount of nformaton
2 2 of :16 n the genealogy of the Peter lne from John of the Woodbury famly. A number of Traske emgrants. Capt Wm Traske to Cape Ann 1623, frend and companon to Gov Endcott. Osmand Traske settled Beverly at abt Wllam and Osmond were apparently brothers from East Clke, Somersetshre. A brother, John, had a son, John, who may be the thrd emgrant, John. Or John may be John the son of Wllam, or JOhn the son of Osmande. Henry Traske, b 1633? probably a brother by a dfferent mother. John Traske, son of Capt Wm Trake m (1) Abgal Parkman, (2) Mary Clarke. He followed hs father's trade as a mller and lved n Salem Vllage. John Trask, son of Osmond Trask of Beverly, m Chrstan Woodbury and lved at Beverly, MA. John Trask Sr the mystery man m Hannah Sclart? (I can't read my wrtng) and was a seafarng man, lved at Beverly, moved to Lexngton MA. Osmond Trask m (1) Mary (unknown) on 1/11/1649, apparently n Beverly. Sarah b 1650 d young m Unknown Holland Edward b 6/6/1652 John b 1653 m Chrstan Woodbury Mary b 1657 m Moses BROWN Wm Trask m (2) E Gally, 2nd wfe of Osmund, n 1663 she m John. (?) Mary bp 1661 d young m Unknown Frarson Osmond m (2) E. Gally: Joseph bp 1675 m E. Sallowes or Sallows E. Trask bp 1675 d young m Lt Steven HERRICK 1691, son Ephram HERRICK b 1636, and Mary Cross, m Wm Trask bp 1675 m Sarah Marstone. (I see I have two Wllam's). Ths came from oneof those web stes. Samuel Trask m 1664 Susannah WOODBURY b 1673 d Hs son, Josah Trask, m (1) Mary WOODBURY n 1719, b 1703 Beverly, dau Pter Woodbury II b 1666 and Mary Dodge. (She was frst cousn to Chrstan Woodbury.) Abgal b 1669 m Robert BAKER n 1723, son of JOnathan BAKER and Mary Unknown. (desc of Cornelus BAKER, lved rght around there.) Benjamn Trask m (1) Mrs. Mercy (SHATTUCK) Ellott 1705 Beverly m (2) Tryfene or Trypene HERRICK, m 1711, b 1676, dau of Joseph HERRICK and Mary Endcott. Jonathan Trask bp 1675 Edward Trask bp 1677 m Deborah Roundry. The Trasks and Woodberry's lved next to each other and near the Bshop's, Raymonds and Balches n Beverly on the Bass Rver. The HERRICK famly tes these famles together; Henry Herrck, 5th son of Sr Wm Herrck, m Edth Laskns. 8 chldren. Henry Herrck m Lyda WOODBURY, fve chldren. Capt Joseph Herrck bp 1660 m Sarah DODGE Mary m Andrew Ellott Henry m Joanna WOODBURY dau of Andrew WOODBURY Lyda bp 1691 m 1708 Josah WOODBURY son of Deacon Peter WOODBURY
3 3 of :16 The DODGE famly and also the BATCHELDOR famles very closely te all of the Raymond, Balch, (not so much Bshop, whose daughter marred Wm Raymond), Woodbury and Trask famles together. Extensve ntermarryng and nbreedng among these famles. John WOODBURY and hs br Wllam were early settlers on Bass Rver, I thnk. I got most nformaton from a book on John Woodbury and the descendants of hs son Peter, and some from the Trask web ste, and most of the nformaton abaout the chldren of Humphrey from Ancestral Fle, the nformaton n whch atleast n part checks aganst the Beverly and Salem records and the lttle that s n the book on the Woodbury's. I beleve that the Woodbury book lsted the chldren of Hannah and Cornelus Baker. Ths book remarkably, and qute suspcously, mentons Humphrey and any of hs chldren at all only slghtly and n passng, never are hs chldren lsted, though he was the other son of the emgrant Woodbury. The author of ths book descrbes John as staunch and tacturn. John Woodbury m (2) Salem or Beverly, Agnes, between 1629 when he was a founder of the Beverly church, and 1635 when she s lsted and they had a chld. Agnes' last name not known. He marred her n hs old age, and ded when the chldren were qute young. Humphrey b abt 1607 by an earler marrage (AF says to Joanna Humphrey), brought to Beverly by hs father at about age 20 or somethng. Foundng member and deacon for 17 years at Beverly church. He was much older than hs half sblngs. He marred Elzabeth Unknown, n Salem or Beverly. They had: John bp 1641 m 1656 Elzabeth, m 1690 Alce Blsh or Darbe. Thomas b 1639 m 1661 Hannah DODGE m (2) Elzabeth Curts Isaac bp 1643 or 1645 m Mary Wlkes Humphrey b 1646 m 1671 Anne Wnder Susannah b 1648 m John Tenney, Deacon, m (2) John Bray Peter b 1653 had Mary m Josah TRASK Rchard b 1655 m 1674 Sarah HASKELL * ELIZABETH B 1657 chr 1658 m JOHN WALKER * CHRISTIAN b 1661 m 1670 John TRASK Abgal bp 1635 or 1637 m John Hll 166_ Hannah bp 1636 m Cornelus BAKER (another early Bass Rver settler) Hannah bp1660 d 1662 Hannah 1662 Chld 1662 Samuel and Cornelus, 1667 Jonathan 1669 Abgal 1672 Prsclla 1674 Bethah 1677 John 1678 Jabez 1682 Peter bp 1640 a deacon at Beveerly church, adm'd estates of John BATCHELDOR and JOHN KETTEL (whose daughter marred Wm Raymond jr and also ted to the BATCHELDOR's) took part n publc affars and government wth John Dodge and Wllam Raymond Sr. He s lkely to hve been named for mnster Hugh Peter who later became Chaplan to Olver Cromwell, and was executed as a regcde. I guess ths man was an early mnster n the area or somethng? It took some personalty to be lkely to have named a son after such a man! m (1) Abgal BATCHELDOR, adau of John of Raylsde and Beverly. She dd not lve very long. They had: Deacon Peter woodbury bp 1636, m Mary DODGE, daughter of Edward DOGE whose sster was hs father's second wfe, and Mary HASKELL, daughter of Wllam HASKELL of Gloucester who had brother Roger HASKELL lvng at Beverly.
4 4 of :16 Peter m (2) Sarah DODGE, dau of emogrant Rchard and Edth DODGE, n 1656 or She bp They had: *JERUSHA m 1698 George RAYMOND, full brother of Wllam Raymond Jr my ancestor, and son of Capt Wm RAYMOND who marred Hannah BISHOP the dau of Edw Bshop sr and stepdaughter to BRIDGET. A dau Hannah m Joshua DODGE. Wllam Raymond and Hannah Bshop are my drect ancestors. So Wm Raymond's brother was marred to Chrstan Woodbury's frst cousn. Josah m Lyda HERRICK, dau of Capt Jos HERRICK m Mary DODGE dau of Wm DODGE and Mary Conant wdow of John BALCH a brother of Benjamn the father of Benjamn who m Elzabeth WOODBURY who testfed aganst Sarah and Brdget Bshop, who drowned n a storm,; he was son of Lyda WOODBURY and Henry HERRICK. Benjamn's brother Freeborn s my drect ancestor. SARAH m Deacon John RAYMOND gson of John RAYMOND the brother of Capt Wllam Raymond Sr. Abgal m Lamsom. Anna m John HERRICK son of Joseph Herrck Martha m Ichabod BROWN and had Rev. John BROWN Prsclla Rebecca, both never marred. Another Woodbury, John, settled at Beverly who very mportantly appears to have been another son of John Wood bury by hs frst wfe. John Woodbury Sr deeded land to Humphrey Woodbury Sr, Cornelus Baker (husband of hs daughter), Peter Woodbury, and Elzabeth Dodge wdow of John Woodbury deceased, wth ther only survvng son Ebenezer Woodbury. That makes no sense unless John was hs son. John marred Elza who on hs death marred Capt John DODGE the son of Wllam DODGE. They had: ****** ELIZABETH WOODBURY bp 1654, 8 mo or June, 15. marred BENJAMIN BALCH JR, and testfed aganst Sarah and Brdget n 1692! So she was a frst cousn of Chrstan TRASK! Remember, Benjamn's brother Freeborn was my ancestor. John bp 1657 d 1662 Ebenezer Woodbury (dentfed by the land transfer) Abgal bp It appears that Chrstan Trask was ted by marrages to ths entre group of famles and ndrectly to Brdget Bshop. If anyone comes up wth a closer te between the two, I would lke to see t. Yours, Dora Get Free Emal and Do More On The Web.
