1 The Ensgn Zarahemla Branch SEPTEMBER 2015 Prepare Ye, Prepare Ye by Hgh Prest Brad Gault Prepare ye, prepare ye, O nhabtants of the earth, for the judgment of our God s come: behold, and lo, the Brdegroom cometh, go ye out to meet hm. Secton 85:25d Latter-day revelaton s replete wth nstructon to the church to prepare ourselves for the comng of our Savor. The very frst secton, gven n November 1831 wth nstructon to place t as the preface of our Doctrne and Covenants, says that the Lord s ngh; and the anger of the Lord s kndled, and hs sword s bathed n heaven, and t shall fall upon the nhabtants of the earth; and the arm of the Lord shall be revealed; But the Lord provded to hs sants the means by whch safety and refuge would be provded from ths comng calamty by speakng unto Joseph Smth Jr. and provdng revelatons n ther tme and commandments not a few to be proclamed unto the world. These revelatons and commandments not only warn but also teach the need for a Savor and the establshment of an earthly kngdom a place of safety and refuge -- as a place prepared for the kngdom of heaven to come. We are recpents of these revelatons and commandments but are we really prepared for the comng of the Lord? We have fallen short n preparng a place. What about our personal lves? What must we be about to prepare a place and ourselves? A strong ndcaton I beleve les n the parable of the wse and foolsh vrgns. So mportant s the nstructon contaned n ths parable that t s specfcally mentoned wth the Lords own commentary on t n Secton 45: And at that day when I shall come n my glory, shall the parable be fulflled whch I spake concernng the ten vrgns; for they that are wse and have receved the truth, and have taken the Holy Sprt for ther gude, and have not been deceved, verly I say unto you, They shall not be hewn down and cast nto the fre, but shall abde the day, and the earth shall be gven unto them for an nhertance; Takng the Holy Sprt as our gude s the key understandng of ths parable and crtcal to our preparedness. Our baptsms of water and sprt we know are essental because they place us on the straght and narrow path but unless the Holy Sprt s our gude, we can wander from that path. Contaned wthn the commandments and revelatons gven to Joseph are helps and governments placed wthn the framework of hs church to keep s n the narrow way to keep us n tune wth the Holy Sprt n our lves. Chef among these helps and governments are the sprtual dscplnes of prayer, fastng, study and worshp. Each of these can be both personal as well as corporate and we are commanded to partcpate n them all. Especally mportant, I beleve, are the corporate expressons and yet stll too many fnd the gatherngs of the sants ether for fellowshp or worshp far too low on ther lst of lfe s prortes. Ths makes the body of Chrst weak and unprepared for hs comng.

2 One of my favorte Southern Gospel songs s enttled Every Tme the Doors Were Open I Was There. It begns wth the sngers recollecton of all the varous gatherngs of the church once attended every tme the doors were open they were there -- Sunday mornng, Sunday evenng, Tuesday evenng vstaton, Wednesday prayer servce, all fellowshps bound by love wth the statement that church was just part of who the snger was. Then, n a wonderful twst, the song swtches to the voce of our Savor who says every tme the doors were open I was there and then the voce of the Savor puts t n the future tense by sayng every tme the doors are open I ll be there. It warms my heart every tme I hear ths song because t has been my lfe s experence. I fnd the presence of God n every assembly of the sants and there s no greater blessng than to be n Hs presence. Yes, there are calamtes comng, the anger of the Lord s kndled, hs sword s bathed n heaven and judgments wll be poured out and we stll must better prepare for hs comng. I would therefore strongly encourage all to nvest themselves heavly nto the corporate lfe of the church, certanly n our fellowshp opportuntes but most especally n every opportunty we have to worshp. Make church just a part of who you are. Every tme the doors are open be there because Where two or three are gathered together n my name, as touchng one thng, behold, there wll I be n the mdst of them; even so am I n the mdst of you. (Sec 6:15b) Our work of preparaton s best done together as a fellowshp bound by love. In the Book of Mormon, Alma asks the queston, Have ye walked, keepng yourselves blameless before God? He further asks f the reader can say, that ye have been suffcently humble? And contnues wth the queston, Behold, are ye strpped of prde? He concludes by sayng, f ye are not, ye are not prepared to meet God.
