2 Pre class a ct v t Preclass Centers As the chldren arrve, gude them to a preclass center. Have no more than sx chldren at each center. Materals Use the materals prevously selected for ths unt s preclass centers. Preparaton 1. Be sure to check the condton of the materals selected for ths unt s preclass centers pror to set up. Replace any broken toys, or puzzles wth mssng peces as necessary. 2. Set up the centers before the chldren come nto the classroom. 3. Assgn a teacher to each center and have the teachers stay n those centers untl the sngng begns. Instructons Gude the play n each center renforcng the unt theme. Teacher Tps IMPORTANT: Do not allow any small toys n the classroom. Frst check all toys for sze. You can obtan a safety cylnder from a pedatrcan. Any object that can ft nto the cylnder s too small and could cause a chld to choke. Be nvolved n the group play and offer gudance as needed. Wear comfortable clothes sutable for sttng on the floor. Bble Story Text Acts 2:42-47 Materals For the teacher: Bble scssors glue stck 2 peces of constructon paper markers or crayons clear contact paper or lamnate (optonal) Reproducble Pages: Page A, 1 copy for the teacher Page B, 1 copy for the teacher Preparaton 1. Cut out and color the pctures from the copes of the Reproducble Pages. 2. Glue each pcture to a pece of constructon paper to gve t a frame. What Dscples Do Who lkes to come to church? Open the Bble. Today our Bble Story s about the frst church and the frst dscples. They loved to go to church too. Can you say dscple? The Bble says a dscple s a teenager or a grownup who loves Jesus and who obeys the Bble and gets baptzed. Explan to the chldren that you are a dscple of Jesus, that you love and obey God s word. These are pctures of the frst dscples of Jesus. Hold up the pcture of the dscples readng a scroll together. What do you thnk these dscples are readng? Yes, t s a Bble scroll. It s God s word. The Bble says that the frst dscples loved to read God s word. Do dscples today love to read and study the Bble? Yes, we do! Hold up the pcture of the dscples prayng together. Make a steerng wheel from a heavy paper plate for each chld n the center. 2. Famlarze yourself wth the actvty. Instructons Open the Bble. What does the Bble call people who love and obey God? Rght, they are called dscples! Does anyone know what t s called when all of the dscples get together? It s called church. Can everyone say church? The Bble says that all of the dscples together are called the church. Today we are gong to do the thngs that dscples do. Frst, let s pretend t s Saturday, and tomorrow, on Sunday, we wll go to church. Let s go outsde to play, and let s nvte a frend to church. Gve each chld an nvtaton, and help each chld to nvte someone to church. Mary, who do you want to nvte to church? Your grandma! Great dea, let s nvte her! Grandma, would you lke to come to church wth me tomorrow? You would! That s great! We wll pck you up n the mornng. 7 C r a f t Drvng to Church The chldren wll enjoy makng steerng wheels and pretendng to drve to church. Materals For each chld: 1 paper plate, 6" crayons poster board, 9" x 11" For the teacher: 1 sheet of poster board scssors marker black marker utlty knfe or sharp pencl 1 sheet of foam Reproducble Pages: Page C, 1 copy for each chld Preparaton 1. Prepare a pece of poster board for each chld as follows: A. Cut a 9" x 12" pece of poster board for each chld. B. On the top of each pece, prnt, Drvng to Church. C. Measure 5 nches from the top and 4 nches from the left sde of the poster board, and then mark an X on the poster board. See Fgure A. D. Usng the utlty knfe, poke a small hole through the X on the poster board. 2. Cut out the pctures of the gas gauges from the copes of Reproducble Page C. 3. Cut out the arrow, steerng wheel and horn stencls from one of the copes of Reproducble Page C. 4. Prepare a steerng wheel for each chld as follows: A. Trace the steerng wheel stencl onto the bottom of each paper plate. B. Usng a utlty knfe, remove the three cutout areas on the plates. See Fgure B. 5. Trace and cut one arrow for each chld from poster board. NOTE: Be sure to mark the X on each arrow. 6. Prepare a horn for each chld as follows: A. Trace and cut one horn from foam. B. Usng the utlty knfe, poke a small hole through the center of the horn. NOTE: Use the X on the stencl to fnd the center of the horn. 7. Make a model of the craft followng the nstructons. Instructons 1. Show the chldren your model. Gve each chld a turn at drvng. 2. Attach the steerng wheel to the poster board as follows: A. Gve each chld a steerng wheel to color. B. Gve each chld a prepared pece of poster board and a horn. C. Push a brass fastener through the horn, the steerng wheel and then through the hole n the poster board. See Fgure C. Flatten the sde wngs nto place. 3. Attach the gas gauge to the poster board as follows: A. Gve each chld a gas gauge and an arrow to color. B. Have each chld glue the gas gauge to the rght of the steerng wheel. C. Push a brass fastener through the X on the arrow, the X on the gas gauge, and then through the poster board. See Fgure D. Flatten the sde wngs nto place. 4. Have the chldren color the poster board. Concluson Sng Ths Is the Way We Drve to Church from the Unt 15 Song Sheet. Sng t a second tme as you pretend to drve around your center area. Sng Dd You Come to Bble Class? from Unt 15 Song Sheet and pretend that you are drvng dfferent types of vehcles, such as a fre truck, bus, etc. Gve each chld a turn to choose whch vehcle you are gong to drve. Teacher Tps Get some help from other teachers or workers wth the preparaton for ths craft. To speed up your preparaton tme, try makng your stencls from poster board. (Psalm 96:1) Materals For the teacher: Bble scssors markers 1 pad of large chart paper constructon paper fabrc or wallpaper swatches glue stck clear tape toy vehcles, or a pcture of a vehcle toy bus or a pcture of a bus Preparaton 1. Usng the pad of chart paper, create the Suze flp chart, as follows: A. On the frst page draw a square as a cabnet. Tape two peces of fabrc or constructon paper onto the square as doors. NOTE: Be sure that they open by only tapng one sde. B. On the second page draw a tree. Tape green constructon paper leaves onto the tree. NOTE: Be sure that they can be lfted so the chldren can look under them. C. On the thrd page draw a bed. Tape or glue a pece of fabrc to the sde of the bed so that t can be lfted and the chldren can look under t. D. On the fourth page draw a char. E. On the ffth page draw a rectangle as a closet. Tape one pece of constructon paper onto the rectangle as a door. F. On the sxth page draw a happy grl. 2. Today we are gong to sng to the Lord about Bble Class. Who loves to come to Bble Class? 2. Usng the vehcles that you brought, ask the chldren how they came to Bble class. Alexs, how dd you come to Bble class today? Dd you come n an arplane? 3. Sng, Dd You Come to Bble Class? from the Unt 15 Song Sheet. End wth whatever vehcle most chldren probably came n, such as a car. Cheer after the song s fnshed. I am glad you came to Bble class today! 4. Show the chldren the bus. Now, we are gong to sng about comng to Bble class on a bus. Sng The Wheels on the Bus. Here we are at Bble class! Oh no, our frend Suse s not here! Would you please help me to fnd her? 5. Materals For each chld: 2 peces of poster board, 8 1 / 2" x 11" crayons 1 brass fastener glue stck For the teacher: scssors sharp pencl markers tape stckers Reproducble Pages: Page D, 1 copy for the teacher Page E, 1 copy for each chld Preparaton 1. Make two wheels for each chld as follows: A. Cut out the wheel stencl from the copy of Reproducble Page D. NOTE: Do not cut the wedge from the wheel at ths tme. B. Trace and cut out two wheels from poster board. Set asde one of the wheels as the bottom wheel. 2. Prepare the top wheel for each chld as follows: A. Usng a utlty knfe, punch a hole n the center of the top wheel. B. Cut the wedge out of the wheel stencl. C. Trace and then cut a wedge from the top wheel. D. On the top wheel, wrte, The Frst Dscples Acts 2: Prepare the bottom wheel for each chld as follows: A. Cut out the wheel pcture from a copy of Reproducble Page E. B. Glue each wheel pcture onto the bottom wheel. 4. Make a model of the craft followng the nstructons. Instructons 1. Show the chldren the model. Turn the top wheel so the chldren see the dfferent pctures showng the lves of the early dscples. Today we are learnng how the frst dscples lved. Descrbe what the dscples are dong n each pcture. 2. Gve each chld a bottom wheel to color. 3. Gve each chld a top wheel and a few stckers. Have them place the stckers on ther top wheels. 4. Attach the two wheels by pushng a brass fastener through the hole n the top wheel, and then through the bottom wheel. Flatten the sde wngs underneath the bottom wheel. NOTE: Do not allow the chldren to help wth the brass fasteners. 5. Wrte the chldren s names on ther crafts. Concluson The frst dscples wanted to be just lke Jesus. They wanted to make God happy by lovng and helpng people. It makes God happy when we help others. Chose a chld to turn to a pcture on ther wheel, and then to descrbe what the frst dscples are dong. Repeat ths wth the other pctures. Teacher Tps Punch a small hole n the center of your stencl and then mark each poster board pece wth a small dot to make t easer to fnd the centers.
