Europe There were many reasons for the decline of the Roman Empire. These included:. The fall of Rome is not an accurate description of what really happened. In reality, there was a long slow change from one way of life to another. Over the next few centuries Roman culture began to include customs, ideas, and languages of the tribes that had invaded the empire. The cities and roads crumbled and even though the Christian Church preserved the Roman culture, it gave rise to civilization in Europe. The Effect of Christianity Christianity emerged within the Roman Empire, specifically in Roman-held lands in the Middle East. It spread quickly throughout the empire and reshaped Roman beliefs. 7.
