Please call the rectory at to set up an appointment with a Priest. First time parents and godparents are required to attend a Baptism Preparation Session. Only when Certificates of Eligibility from godparents are presented, then a date for the baptism can be set. The Baptism Preparation Sessions are held the first Sunday of the month at 12:00 PM in the Upper Church, with registration required. To register, please call the parish secretary during regular business hours (Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM). Registration must be made prior to the last Friday of the month. If no registrations are received, a session may not be held. 2 PASTOR'S CORNER Our parish has a great blessing in our Eucharistic Adoration Chapel. February 21 marks the is" Anniversary of its start here at Holy Cross. Through these years, countless people have spent time before the Blessed Sacrament praying, not only for themselves and their families, but for our parish, Church and world. We are very grateful to Bill and Marge Burke, Jim and Lillian Donahue, Stella Lallier, Eleanor Hoban and Carmen Lombertino for initiating daily Eucharistic Adoration.. We are also very grateful to Ronnie Sidebottom, Catherine and Monica Armstrong and Dolores Morroni for cleaning it and for coordinating the adorers. After receiving Holy Communion and Confession, I cannot think of a better way to be refreshed than to spend some silent ti me before Our Eucharistic Lord. Please consider spending one hour a week in this very worthwhile way. A NEW VISION Dear Friends, During Pope Francis' recent, remarkable visit here, he challenged each of us with the words "What about you?" He encouraged us to"... draw on the power of Jesus' cross to bring joy, hope and strength into our world." Those words have helped generate a new vision of what Catholic Charities should be - namely, that Catholic Charities should be a positive source for good in all facets of the Church in Philadelphia. Therefore, the mission of the 2016 Catholic Charities Appeal is bigger and more ambitious than before. This year, the goal is 15 million. It has been expanded to benefit nearly 180 organizations and ministries in areas that include: * Education * Social services * Mission Activities, Local, National and Worldwide * Evangelization, parish and spirituallife* * Clergy In order to maintain adequate funding to ministries which received Catholic Charities funding in the past, up to $10 million will be reserved for their needs. It's a huge task, and it compels me to ask more of you than ever before. So, in the words of Pope Francis, "What about you?" Will you look within your heart to be even more generous than you have in the past? 4 FROM THE PASTOR'S DESK When we are enjoying a very happy time with family or friends, say at a special event or on vacation, we may wish that time could stop or else never end. Last summer, my brother and I stood on a ridge above Angel Lake, high in the Nevada mountains. The magnificent panorama of waterfalls, snow-capped mountains, lake and forest unfolded before us. I wanted to save that moment to enjoy again and again. But I couldn't. Neither could St. Peter at the Transfiguration in today's Gospel. We cling to such moments when life makes sense and it feels so right being there. But Our Lord did not encourage the building of tents, and we cannot stop time. We treasure such moments, but we must also come down from these mountaintop experiences and face both the grind and the demands of everyday life in our ordinary lives. Perhaps, this Lent, we can do some simple practices to strengthen our faith as we face everyday life -like extra prayer, self-denial and charity; like patiently accepting and carrying the crosses of our daily lives. Semi-Annual PANCAKE BREAKFAST The Holy Cross Knights of Columbus Pancake Breakfast will be held on Sunday, March 13, from 8:00 AM until 1:00 PM in the Parish Hall. Tickets for the breakfast will be $7 for Adults and $6 for children (12 and under). There will be advanced discounted tickets sold at $6 for Adults and $5 for Children (under 12). Advanced tickets will be sold on the weekends of February 27 and 28 and March 5 and 6 in the Church vestibules after Mass. Tickets will also be available from any of the Knights before March 13. Your participation in the Collection for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe will assist in the building of churches; training and educating of pastors and lay people; sustaining orphanages; evangelizing children, adults and seniors as well as providing scholarships to Catholic students. This collection will be conducted in your parish on a weekend during Lent as determined by your Pastor.
