Please call the rectory at to set up an appointment with a Priest. First time parents and godparents are required to attend a Baptism Preparation Session. Only when Certificates of Eligibility from godparents are presented, then a date for the baptism can be set. The Baptism Preparation Sessions are held the first Sunday of the month at 12:00 PM in the Upper Church, with registration required. To register, please call the parish secretary during regular business hours (Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM). Registration must be made prior to the last Friday of the month. If no registrations are received, a session may not be held. 2 PASTOR'S CORNER As you may know, our parishioner, Kevin Harrington, is in formation to be ordained a permanent deacon in June of He was just installed in the ministry of acolyte. Congratulations to Kevin! Please keep Kevin in your prayers as he advances toward his ordination. We especially honor Our Blessed Mother in this month of May and thank her for her constant help, prayers, and love. As we honor the precious gifts of our mothers today, let us ask Our Blessed Mother to pray for them, living and deceased, and to remind us to be thankful for all of their love, sacrifice and protection. We congratulate our young parishioners who just received their First Holy Communion. May they and their families always stay close to Our Eucharistic lord and may He bless them with His grace and peace. As we look forward to another PREPyear, we would like to thank you for considering Holy Cross for your family! Our children learn and experience the Catholic faith through the message of Jesus Christ with our PREPprogram. Parents of all students in grades 2-6 will need to submit a returning student registration form along with the fee to the business office or back with your child at PREPclasses. Parents of students entering Level One will have to fill out a new student registration form and submit a copy of their baptismal certificate. 6 ELIZABETH MINISTRY AT SAINT FRANCIS -:Saturday after Mother's Day, May 14, the Elizabeth Ministry at Saint Francis of Assisi Parish - meld will have a remembrance Mass for parents who have lost a child of any age. The be at 11:00 AM. Those in attendance should bring a picture of their loved one. HOW TO GET MORE OUT OF THE MASS ADORE We encounter the "real" Jesus at the Eucharist. We hear God's Word proclaimed in the Scriptures, and we receive the Body and Blood of Our lord and Savior. Spending time adoring the real presence of Our lord in the Eucharist outside of Mass can help us to better appreciate the intimate encounter that we are privileged to have with Him at every celebration ofthe Mass, when we become IMng tabernacles. Adoration helps us to approach Him in a devout way and experience Sacrament. the great love that He has for us, as He comes to us in Word and CONFESS Focusing on the image of Jesus on the cross should remind loves each of us, and the horrible us of how much God price of our sins. Think of the words that Jesus spoke from the cross: * "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do" (Lk 23:34), expressing forgiveness. * "Father, into thy hands I commit my spirit!" (Lk.23:46), proclaiming trust in God. If we want to get more out of the Mass, we need to be humble: we realize how we fail to live up to the great gift of God's love we have been given. We confess any serious sins in the Sacrament of Reconciliation before coming to Mass, and we place all of our trust in God's mercy and love when we publicly proclaim at the Eucharist that we "believe" in Him. RESPOND At the Eucharist we become one with Christl and He promises: * "If you abide in me, and my words abide in YOU I ask whatever you wlll, and it shall be done for you" (In 15:7). * We "abide in Christ" by the way we respond while at the Eucharist. Every celebration of the Eucharist provides us with a variety of ways ro respond to Christ in the way we pray, sing and move with the community. Some of these require sacrificing our personal tastes and likes for the good of the whole (maybe you don't like the choice of music, or find it difficult to offer a sign of peace to those next to you).
