Some of whom we serve are the patients/residents of JFK Hospital and the Veterans Home in Edison, the Venetian Care Center, the homeless and Pro-Life organizations. 2 Blood Drive at Saint Mary s Sunday, February 17, in School Cafeteria Saint Mary s will be having a blood drive on Sunday, February 17, from 8:45 a.m. until 1:15 p.m., in the school cafeteria. Please bring ID and remember to eat before you donate. Donors should be at least 17 years of age, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. Homemade goodies will be served, walk-ins are welcome! Please call Sue at for more information. A Note from St. Mary's Food Pantry The Food Pantry appreciates all that you do for those in need. Just a reminder please do not leave food on the rectory steps or porches. ALL food should be left in the back of the church or in St. Theresa's chapel. Also, please check expiration dates. We cannot distribute expired food and must throw it out. Thank you for your cooperation and assistance. For more information on how to report abuse, visit our diocesan website: Pop Tabs and Box-Tops Saint Stanislaus and Our Lady of Victories Schools Thank you to all who supported our past collection of pop-tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. Unfortunately, we no longer participate in this program. However, if you are still interested in donating poptabs, Saint Stanislaus School (221 MacArthur Avenue) in Sayreville does collect pop-tabs for the Ronald McDonald House - please do NOT leave tabs at St. Mary s; bring them to St. Stan s school. If you are interested in collecting box-tops (see picture), we have a box in the back of the church for donations. The box-tops support Our Lady of Victories School in Sayreville. Designer Handbag Bingo at Our Lady of Victories Friday, February 22, at 7 p.m. Our Lady of Victories Designer Handbag Bingo Fundraiser is scheduled for Friday, February 22, at 7 p.m., in Monsignor Dalton Hall (42 Main Street) in Sayreville (doors open at 6:30 p.m.). Snow date is February 23. Ticket price is $35 and includes 10 games of bingo/1 bingo card per game with 5 Level-1 and 3 Level-2 Raffle Tickets. Additional bingo game cards can be purchased at the event as well as tickets for 3 levels of Tricky Tray Raffles and 50/50. BYO food, dessert and refreshments. Coffee and tea will be provided. Tickets can be purchased/reserved through OLV s School Office ( ) or through Nicole Martin ( ). For Your Safety This Winter Weekday Masses and Inclement Weather After much thought and careful consideration, we have decided that it is best to follow the South Amboy public schools schedule for inclement weather in the winter. If the schools are closed due to snow or ice, then that day s Mass will be cancelled and the parish office will also be closed. For weekend Masses, please check our website or Facebook page before heading out to see if Mass has been cancelled (and spread the word to those who may not have access to a computer). Most importantly, whether it is a weekday or weekend Mass if the weather is poor, please do NOT risk your safety to come to Mass. 3 2018 Contribution Statement Requests If you would like to receive a statement of your Church contribution totals for the year 2018, please provide a stamped, self-addressed envelope (with your collection envelope number indicated) to the Parish Office. You may submit your request via the collection basket. Sunday Cash Raffle Winner The members of the Choir wish to thank everyone who supported our fundraising efforts. There were 27 happy and lucky winners! The Choir will be continuing its fundraising efforts by holding another 6-month Calendar Raffle with drawings being held every Sunday from July 7 to December 29. We hope you consider purchasing a raffle ticket for the drawings. Please watch the bulletin for further details on ticket sales. Dad - Daughter Date Night Friday, February 8, from 7-10 p.m. Please be as Dads, Uncles, Granddads, Step- Dads the South Amboy - Sayreville Rotary is hosting their 14 th annual Dad - Daughter Date Night on Friday, February 8, from 7-10 p.m., at the VFW Hall on Jernee Mill Road in Sayreville. The cost is $60 per couple ($25 each additional special girl) if payment is received by January 18. Please make checks payable to the South Amboy-Sayreville Rotary and mail with registration form to: PO Box 3001, South Amboy, NJ, If paying at the door (space permitting), the cost will be an extra $10 cash. Pasta Fundraiser This Friday, January 25, from 6-9 p.m. The South Amboy Columbiettes will hold their annual pasta dinner this Friday, January 25, from 6-9 p.m., before Open Mic at the Knights of Columbus Columbian Hall (308 Fourth Street) in South Amboy. Proceeds will benefit the food pantries of St. Mary s and Sacred Heart Churches in South Amboy. The cost (prepaid) is $10 for adults ($12 at the door), $5 for children ages 3-12 and children under 2 attend for free. Foundation for Catholic Education Second Collection Next Weekend There will be a second collection next weekend, January 26/27, for the Foundation for Catholic Education, which provides scholarships to financially-deserving children attending a Diocese of Metuchen Catholic elementary or high school. Over 100 deserving children are enrolled in one of our schools today thanks to your generous support of last year s collection. Hundreds of families, hoping to give their children the gift of a Catholic school education, will seek financial assistance from the FCE Scholarship Program for the school year. Your gift will send a child to Vatican II and the Church of the Third Millennium Taking place at the St. John Neumann Pastoral Center (146 Metlars Lane) in Piscataway, on Wednesdays, January 23, 30 and February 6, from 10-11:30 a.m. Join Fr. Gregory Uhrig for an exploration of the enduring power of Vatican II s teachings in our day. Based on a video series entitled Vatican II and the Church of the Third Millennium with Dr. Richard R. Gaillardetz, Ph.D., this course will offer an opportunity to reflect on and discuss the challenges facing the Catholic Church today. There is no charge to attend and no registration is required. Checchio will celebrate the Annual Diocesan Respect for Life Mass at noon this Sunday, January 20, at the Cathedral of St. Francis of Assisi in Metuchen. The bishop will also present the 2019 Pro-Vita awards. This year s recipients are: Patricia Daly, a parishioner at Immaculate Conception Church in Annandale, Carolyn Glodek, a parishioner at St. John Vianney Parish in Colonia and William Tevald, a parishioner at Immaculate Conception Church in Annandale. Please call ext or World Youth Day Saturday, January 26, From 3:30-9 p.m. The Diocese of Metuchen s Office of Youth Ministry will be hosting a Youth Day at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish (105 Summer Road) in Three Bridges, next Saturday, January 26, from 3:30 9 p.m. All 8th 12th graders are invited to come with their parish! This will be an evening filled with fun, food, music, prayer, and reflection as our local Church celebrates our youth in union with the Universal Church. Mass will be celebrated by Bishop James F. Prayer Service - Wednesday, January 30 For Those Touched by the Pain of Addiction or Loss The Diocese of Metuchen's Office of Human Life and Dignity and the Catholic Community of St. Anthony of Padua will host a Prayer Service for those touched by the pain of addiction or loss at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 30, at St. Anthony of Padua Parish (436 Port Reading Avenue) in Port Reading. Any person or family whose life has been touched by the pain of addiction or loss, or who seeks the grace of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the struggle to recovery is welcome.
